Degree requirements
To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Arts (BA), a student must acquire 240CP as prescribed below:
gain at least one Arts-approved major
gain a minimum of 160CP of Arts-approved courses comprising:
o at least 60CP at first year level and
o at least 80CP at second and third year level
gain a maximum of 100CP for courses at first year level
gain a minimum of 40CP for courses at third year level
gain no more than 30CP for courses in which the grade of Pass Conceded has been attained.

The first year of the program consists of 80CP (including a minimum of 60CP of Arts-approved first year
courses). Students should ensure that courses are included which satisfy prerequisite requirements for the
major(s) chosen in second and third year. Students are also strongly advised to include the recommended first
year courses for their major/s in their first year enrolment.

As there is a quota on the number of students (50) who may undertake this major, entry is contingent upon
students making a formal application for admission to the major as well as achieving at least a grade of 'Credit'
in the prerequisite course 1004CCJ [Introduction to Human Behaviour]. This course must have been
completed before lodging an application for the major. Students should apply for admission on the application
form which can be obtained from the School of Psychology or Student Administration at Mt Gravatt. It should
be noted that students can only enrol in PSY-coded courses that form part of the major. All PSY-coded

A staged introduction of Nathan Japanese courses and the removal of Gold Coast Japanese courses has
been approved. So, to avoid disadvantaging students currently enrolled in Japanese courses on the Gold

Students entering this Major are recommended to have some background in musical study, in particular an
elementary ability to read musical notation. Students who wish to upgrade their theory knowledge might
consider enrolling in Music Theory or Aural Studies foundation courses prior to embarking on the Major.
Please note that while the courses in the Major are Repertoire/Literature based, familiarity with basic musical
terminology and music theory is assumed. If you are in doubt about this, please contact the Conservatorium.
