NOTES FOR APPLICANTS

Only applications from candidates who have been offered a place at the University of Oxford
for entry in 2012/13 will be considered

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

You must read the information here and scholarship details before indicating which award(s) you
wish to be considered for.

   1. This form can only be completed by:

       Undergraduate applicants who have been offered a place at the University of Oxford for
       entry in 2012/13 and are applying for the following scholarships:

              Hill Foundation Scholarship
              Noon Educational Foundation Oxford Scholarships
              Palgrave Brown UK Scholarship
              Raffy Manoukian Scholarship
              Reach Oxford Scholarship

       Second BA applicants from Australia who have been offered a place at the University of
       Oxford for entry in 2012/13 and are applying for the following scholarship:

              Oxford Australia Scholarship Fund

   2. Only one application form should be submitted, even if you use this form to apply for more
      than one scholarship.

   3. The value of these scholarships varies and details are set out in the following pages.

   4. A breakdown of expenses and an explanation of University fees and college fees are
      provided on the Fees and Funding website at www.ox.ac.uk/feesandfunding.

   5. We use email to inform successful candidates of award outcomes, so please ensure that the
      email address you supply is valid. If you change your email address, please let us know.

   6. Only those candidates who have been accepted for University admission by the application
      deadline will be considered for the scholarships.

   7. A notice will appear on the online scholarship profile when decisions about each scheme
      have been made. The web addresses for these profiles are on the following pages.

   8. If you have not heard from us by the time this notice is posted, this means your application
      to the scheme has been unsuccessful.

   9. If you apply for a scholarship for which you are ineligible (e.g. through status/nationality),
      your application will not be considered.

NOTES FOR APPLICANTS

COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM

   1. Please fill in the form as clearly and completely as possible either electronically or in black
      ink. Where possible, please ensure that the form is printed as a single-sided document. The
      deadline for receipt of the UND_1213 application form and all supporting materials is 12
      noon (UK time) on Friday 24 February 2012. Late or incomplete applications will not be
      accepted. Please note that your application and supporting materials, apart from references,
      must be submitted in the same envelope or email.

   2. Return one copy of the application form with your supporting materials in person, by post or
      by email to:

       If you send your application by email, you must use the subject header UND_1213 APP

SUPPORTING MATERIALS

   1. You must send one copy of the transcript of your academic student record with your
      application. If this is not in English, it must be accompanied by a translation of the
      document. A scanned copy is acceptable. Please do not include evidence of any non-
      academic achievements.

   2. You must include one copy of the letter from your college offering you a place to study at
      Oxford. A scanned copy is acceptable.

   3. You must supply two references with your application. These should be from two people
      with direct knowledge of your academic work (e.g. former or current teacher) who are not
      related to you, and who you have asked to complete reference forms in support of your
      application.

      You should ask each of the referees named on your scholarship application form to
      complete one of the reference forms. The reference forms must be received by post or
      email by 12 noon (UK time) on Friday 24 February 2012.

      If referees submit their reference by email, it must be sent from a work address. Hotmail,
      yahoo, gmail and other such addresses cannot be accepted. The email address for referees
      to use is student.funding@admin.ox.ac.uk with the subject heading UND_1213 REF
      [APPLICANT’S FAMILY NAME].

      Please note that we cannot contact referees on your behalf.

   4. The Noon Educational Foundation Oxford Scholarships and Reach Oxford Scholarship
      require you to include an additional supporting statement with your application. Please
      include this statement in Section G.
HILL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
OVERVIEW
These awards, funded by the Hill Foundation, are offered to enable Russians of very high academic
ability to undertake a period of study at Oxford University before returning to develop their careers in the
Russian Federation


ELIGIBILITY
   Nationality:           Citizens of Russia whose first degree has been taken at a Russian university
                          and who have not subsequently taken any other degree. Israeli passport holders
                          who are the immediate children of a Russian national or Soviet national born in
                          the Russian Federation whose first degree has been taken at an Israeli
                          University and who have not taken any other degree, are also eligible.
   Fee status:            Overseas
   Level of study:        Most Hill Scholars come to Oxford to do research or study for a higher degree
                          but the Trustees also encourage applications from graduates of Russian/Israeli
                          Universities who would like to benefit from the experience of the Oxford tutorial
                          system and take a ‘second first degree’ with senior status.
   Year of study:         New students
   Subject:               All subjects
   College:               All
   Other criteria:        Applicants must intend to return to their home country at the end of their studies.


AWARD DETAILS
   Duration:              2 or 3 years depending on course length
   Value:                 University fees, college fees and a grant for living expenses per year
   Number:                7 to 10 (including Hill awards for graduates)

You must make an application to the University through UCAS by 15 October 2011 and be successful in
gaining a place. You will then need to complete a separate scholarship application form.

NOON EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
OXFORD SCHOLARSHIPS
OVERVIEW
The Noon Educational Foundation was established in 1992 by Lady Viqarunnissa Noon to support
scholars from Pakistan to study at leading universities in the United Kingdom. The scholarships at Oxford
are funded by the Foundation, the University and a number of generous partners.


ELIGIBILITY
   Nationality:          Pakistan
   Fee status:           Overseas
   Level of study:       Undergraduate and Graduate
   Year of study:        New Students
   Subject:              All subjects
   College:              All
   Other criteria:       Applicants must commit to returning to Pakistan after the completion of their
                         studies


AWARD DETAILS
   Duration:             Varies
   Value:                In recent years these have ranged from partial awards (e.g. £3000) to fully
                         funded scholarships (all fees and living costs).
   Number:               One or two per year (includes graduate applicants)

You must make an application to the University through UCAS by 15 October 2011 and be successful in
gaining a place. You will then need to complete a separate scholarship application form.

PALGRAVE BROWN UK SCHOLARSHIP
OVERVIEW
The Palgrave Brown UK Scholarship has been established by the Palgrave Brown Bursary Fund to
provide funding for undergraduates with Home/EU fee status from Norfolk and Suffolk who are in need of
financial assistance

ELIGIBILITY
  Nationality:           Students must have either been previously resident and/or educated in the UK
                         counties of Norfolk or Suffolk
  Fee status:            Home/EU
  Level of study:        Undergraduate
  Year of study:         New students
  Subject:               All subjects
  College:               All colleges
  Other criteria:        Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need, and academic merit
                         will also be taken into consideration

AWARD DETAILS
  Duration:              3 or 4 years depending on course length
  Value:                 An annual grant of £5,000 towards living expenses. Students undertaking a six-
                         year medical degree would only receive funding for the first four years of the
                         course.
  Number:                One award will be available

You must make an application to the University through UCAS by 15 October 2011 and be successful in
gaining a place. You will then need to complete a separate scholarship application form.

      Receipt of the scholarship is conditional upon the student to whom an offer is made providing
       evidence of residency and/or education.
      Scholars will be expected to write an annual report about their academic and social activities, and
       achievements at the University.
      Receipt of the award in subsequent years is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
      Scholars will be expected to apply for UK government maintenance support.
      If eligible, scholars will not receive a separate Oxford Bursary.
      The scholarship will not affect scholars' eligibility for a reduced fee.
RAFFY MANOUKIAN SCHOLARSHIP
OVERVIEW
These awards, generously funded by Mr Raffy Manoukian, are offered to Armenian nationals or students
of Armenian descent who would otherwise be unable to study at Oxford.


ELIGIBILITY
   Nationality:          Candidates should be Armenian nationals or of Armenian descent (and not
                         ordinarily resident in a state within the European Economic Area).
   Fee status:           Overseas
   Level of study:       Undergraduate and Graduate
   Year of study:        New students
   Subject:              All subjects
   College:              All
   Other criteria:       Applicants must intend to return to their home country at the end of their studies.

   Number:               Unlimited number

REACH OXFORD SCHOLARSHIP
OVERVIEW
A number of Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships) are offered to students
from low income countries who, for political or financial reasons, or because suitable educational facilities
do not exist, cannot study for a degree in their own countries.

   Other criteria:       This scheme is only suitable for candidates of the highest academic ability who
                         have outstanding examination results. However, financial need and social
                         commitment are also major criteria for selection. Applicants should be intending
                         to return to their country of ordinary residence following their studies.

OXFORD AUSTRALIA SCHOLARSHIP
FUND
OVERVIEW
The Oxford Australia Scholarship Fund was established in the 1990s with donations from Australians who
have studied at Oxford and, in particular, from Mr James Fairfax AO. Thanks to the generosity of the
Fund's many supporters it has continued to grow. This has included special fund-raising initiatives from
Old Members of Magdalen College, University College and Brasenose College to create awards linked to
specific colleges.


ELIGIBILITY
  Nationality:           Applicants must be Australian citizens who are normally resident in Australia and
                         are applying for a Second BA or graduate degree.
  Fee status:            Overseas
  Level of study:        Second BA and Graduate
  Year of study:         New students
  Subject:               All subjects
  College:               All
  Other criteria:        Applicants must intend to return to their home country at the end of their studies.


AWARD DETAILS
  Duration:              2 or 3 years depending on course length
  Value:                 The value of the scholarship is AUD$12,000 p/a, which will contribute towards
                         living expenses
  Number:                4 (including Oxford Australia awards for graduates)
