          Four Parts of Initial Eligibility

1.   Graduation from high
     school
2.   Minimum ACT or SAT
     score
3.   Minimum core grade-
     point average
4.   Completion of 14
     core courses
       NEW Changes in Initial-Eligibility
Increase in the number of core courses from 13 to 14.
These course will be used to determine your core
grade-point average. Will rise to 16 in Fall 2008
Change in the core grade-point
average/test score index
(sliding scale)
Partial qualifier no longer exists
Computer science not allowed
 beginning Fall 2005
           Core-Course Definition

   An NCAA core course must meet the
   following requirements:
1. Recognized academic course which
   qualifies for high-school graduation credit
   in one or a combination of: English, Math,
   Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language,
   Nondoctrinal Religion, Philosophy &
   Computer Science.

2.   Course must be considered college preparatory
     for entrance into a four-year college.
3.   Mathematics must be at the level of Algebra I or
     higher
4.   Course must be taught by a qualified instructor
5.   Course must be at or above regular academic
     level.
           Division I Core-Course
               Requirements
4 Years of English
2 Years of Mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
2 Years of Natural/Physical Science (1 year must be
a lab course)
1 year of additional English, Math or
Natural/Physical Science
2 Years of Social Science
3 Years of Additional Courses (from any area above
or foreign language, nondoctrinal
religion/philosophy)

Cost: $30.00
          What do I need to do by
        the end of my Junior year?
Register with the Clearinghouse
Take the SAT or ACT (Note- it does not
have to be a qualifying score and this is a
requirement before taking an official visit)
Meet with school guidance
counselor to determine what
core classes you have remaining
and your current core GPA
             Recruiting Summary

Letters can begin September 1 of junior year
Phone calls can begin July 1 prior to senior year
Coaches or other institutional staff may only call
you once a week but you may make unlimited calls
to the coach at your expense (they may accept
collect calls and provide 1-800 numbers)
Off-campus contact with coaches is restricted by
sports (3 times is general rule)
                 More recruiting

You can take an expense-paid visits to five different
schools
You may take “unofficial” visits at your expense to
any school you choose
Be aware of dead periods
There are limits on printed materials mailed to
prospective student-athletes
National Letter of Intent is a binding agreement
