First Grade Report Card Marking Criteria
Based on the six Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
Reading Informational Text
Speaking and Listening
Speaking/Listening incl. Vocabulary
Mark the report card based on the First Grade CCSS Speaking and Listening Standard.
Evaluate vocabulary progress based on student daily communication with peers and
Phonics incl. Spelling
Criteria for marking Phonics, including Spelling, are found in the First Grade CCSS
Foundational Skills Standard. Follow the JSD First Grade Phonics Scope and Sequence,
evaluating student progress based on the concepts taught during each term.
Criteria for marking Fluency are found in the First Grade CCSS Foundational Skills Standard.
Read/Write High Frequency Words
Mark the report card according to student progress in the ability to Read/Write High
Frequency Words in isolation and in context. Links to High Frequency word lists can be
found on the JSD First Grade Phonics Scope and Sequence.
Criteria for marking Listening and Reading Comprehension are found in the First Grade
CCSS Standards for Reading Literature and Reading Informational Text.
Criteria for marking the three genres of writing (Informative/Explanatory, Opinion, and
Narrative) are found in the First Grade CCSS Writing Standard. Additional details can be
found on JSD Comprehensive Balanced Literacy website, Core Curriculum, specifically in the
first grade Writing Genre Details and Rubrics.
