Good habit of learning English
Good habits contribute to people’s achievements .In contrast, bad ones can be the
obstacle of one’s way to success. Focus on forming good habits in studying English,
you just spent half time but got double returns. For this we must form good habits as
early as possible, as many as possible, making them serve for us.
I’d like to share with you my good habits of learning English: writing a plan down and
keeping a diary in English.
The first one is before you do self-study, writing your plan down on a sheet of paper
or a notebook. You can list what you want to read and learn without dropping one, and
arrange a more suitable timetable for your work. It is very useful for me, a forgetful
girl. Insist on writing a plan for nearly a month, I was accustomed to it and got a great
benefit. By doing this, I will not leave out any homework, but also when I saw the plan,
I become more assertive and studious. As I finished each work, I draw a star behind it.
Finally after a whole day’s work, I can reflect on what I have done and what I didn’t
have time to do.
The second one is keeping a diary in English. Compared with the other forms of writing,
it is shorter and takes less time .you can cultivate the habit of thinking in English.
If you can keep this practice, you will gradually learn how to express yourself in English.
It isn’t like a homework assignment which students are compelled to do. It is easy for
us to choose one or two theme to write down. Of course, it needs our determination and
practice. With patience and persistence, you will sure to form that good habit. Good
habit of learning English really helps you a lot. It is like a helpful assistant who
serves you well, like a sophisticated vehicle which brings you to the destination quickly.
Good habits of learning English, together with the strong will and persistence which
to put the them into effect. Help you to reach the peek of the mountain, try to follow
good habit in study. Remember habit is ten times nature!
Good Habits For Learning Language
Good habits always yield twice the result with half the effort. Being language learners,
we can learn the language quicker and better when we fall into some good habits. From
my experience, reading English novels and newspaper does do me a lot of good.
Knowing the history, custom and culture of different countries is a must while learning
languages. As the background of the works is always the epitome of that time, reading
them favor us knowing more and better of the language itself. For example, “Gone With
The Wind” discloses the American Civil War; “Utopia” shows the unhuman enclosure;
“ Hamlet” reflects the feudal-bourgeois English society, etc. All these books serve
for delight, for ornament as well as for ability.
Though we have stepped into e-times, newspaper—the most common carrier of news, is
irreplaceable. As I know, to some readers, the English novels are too long and to
difficult to read. They often lose their appetite of reading while encountering many
strange words and complex interpersonal relationship. Then at this moment, the great
advantages of newspapers shine: it not only provides us with the latest news all over
the world, but also teach us freely some fashionable words and structure of sentences,
which are simple but meaningful. Therefore, we would become a smart common person as
well as a diligent language learner.
Though the literary works are interesting, we find it difficult to read some original
editions because of the existence of unfamiliar background, strange slang and idioms.
Reading some history books may be a good way to solve the problem. And to those extremely
hard ones, we can read Chinese version first and later the original version. As to
newspaper, choosing news which you are interested in can arouse your interest to go on
Good habit is a short cut. Good habit is a ladder to success. It is the friend from whom
you derive benefit through your life. I believe that by grasping them firmly, I will
get a wide and level way to learn English well.
My Two Habits in Learning English
A habit is the second nature .A good habit opens the door to progress. I have kept two
good habits on the course of climbing the ladder of English learning, which are helpful
to oil my study.
One of them is listening to the English radio programs before sleep, such as VOA and
BBC. It is not difficult to understand the English speaking of our Chinese teachers,
for they tend to use simple and slow English for the sake of our understanding. However,
those programs spoken by native speakers almost beat me at the very beginning by their
relatively much quicker speed. As rust breeds rust, a strong listening ability derives
from frequent practice. One obvious benefit is that I am now not as uncomfortable to
sense what native English speakers say on the radio or on TV as before.
Another habit I think becomes valuable for my English learning is to read through an
article without any stop to turn to a dictionary for help. It is quite natural for people
to feel troubled when reading the text written in a second-language, so did I previously.
Unfortunately, the more I looked up a dictionary when reading, the less my interest
remains. Therefore, I changed that bad habit, and found that without asking dictionary
for help not only makes the process of reading coherent but improves my ability of
guessing the meaning of words or phrases according to the context.
The two good habits work for my English learning and strengthening my confidence. It
is apparent that to form them lies in the willpower and persistence. As for the listening,
I suggest beginning from easy programs such as VOA’s Special English, then you will
step into a new higher level quite naturally. Similarly, reading through certain easy
amusing English stories first arouse the interest and power to read more.
Good habits for language learning
Habit can powerfully control one's habit. A good habit usually leads to success and
happiness, while a bad one often brings failure and disappointment. For language learning,
you should have some good habits. In my opinion, reading extensively and listening to
radio are all good habits for English majors to learn English well.
Here are some advantages of extensive reading. To begin with, it brings the reader into
contact with the English language in use. We can experience the way native people express
themselves. Secondly, reading on various topics can enlarge our vocabulary. By meeting
words regularly, we can familiar ourselves with words easily. And we can understand new
words in certain context without looking up the dictionary. Thirdly, in widely reading,
we can improve our comprehension. What's more, reading extensively will widen our outlook
Then I talk something about advantages of listening to radio. In my opinion, the main
advantage is improving our listening ability. As a English mayor, listening plays an
important role in English studying, because it is a means for us to communicate with
foreigners. In addition, we often can get the first hand information through listening
Therefore, owning to the above advantages, you should form these good habits. As for
reading, you can buy some magazines or newspapers such as the 21 Century, English Salon.
You do not need to read only news reports, you can read whatever you like. For the
listening. I advise you to listen to VOA or BBC every night before you go to bed. However,
reading extensively in English and listening to radio regularly demand patience and
perseverance. If you can keep on practising, you will get reward.
