TO:
FROM: Karen Byron
Executive Director, URIPSA
DATE:
RE: Recall Rights
In accordance with the URIPSA bargaining agreement, you are entitled to recall rights for
one year after layoff. If you are recalled within one year, your sick leave balance as of
the effective date of layoff will be restored. A partial layoff is considered eligible for
recall rights. Attached please find excerpts of the PSA bargaining agreement relative to
layoff and recall.
You may arrange to receive copies of posted URIPSA job vacancy notices at your home
address by calling the PSA office at 874-2295. You may also access URI job vacancy
notices posted weekly on the URI website: http://www.uri.edu/
If you wish to exercise your right to recall you may apply to any PSA posted vacancy to
which you meet the “required” posted qualifications. You must label your cover letter at
the top with the following notation:
“I am exercising my right to recall in accordance with the URIPSA Contract”.
If you are not called for an interview and/or if you are not hired, you must receive a
written notice with reasons why you were not deemed qualified. If you wish to challenge
the decision, in accordance with the URIPSA Memorandum of Agreement paragraph 8
(attached), you must do so within ten (10) days of the denial. Please call the PSA office
as soon as you receive the denial if you believe you have been denied your rights to
recall.
Please don’t hesitate to call me for guidance.
Thank you.
