BULLETIN NO 12 27 March 2012
Here we are at the last week of term already !
It’s been a very busy term with lots of hard work and learning.
1. DYSLEXIA SCOTLAND
We have just received information about a meeting to be held on Thursday this week, 29 March,
from 7.00 – 9.00p.m. at Mile-End school (Community Wing), Aberdeen.
The speakers are Lynne Loveday and Annette Davidson of Robert Gordon’s University.
2. HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM
How can parents, teachers and therapists best support a child’s social and emotional well-being
throughout the school years and beyond ?
A meeting will be held on Saturday 21 April at the Douglas Arms Hotel, Banchory from 9.30a.m.
to 1.00p.m. The speaker, Deborah M Plummer, will give a presentation on “Healthy
Self-Esteem”. There are free parents places available so if you would like to book a place email

3. CURRICULUM for EXCELLENCE
The Scottish Government has published some new short films on “Curriculum for Excellence” for
parents/carers on the Engage for Education website at www.engageforeducation.org/cfefilms.
The films illustrate, in nursery/primary/secondary learners’, parents’ and teachers’ own words, the
kind of impact and benefits that CfE is having across the country.
4. VOUCHERS - TESCO & NESTLE
Once again we are collecting Tesco vouchers. Please ask family and friends to hand in vouchers
so that we can order resources for our school. The more we collect, the more our school will
We are also collecting Nestle box tops for books. If you or your friends have any lying around at
home we would be pleased to have them.
5. SPORTS RELIEF DAY : Friday 23 March
The Citizenship Group planned many activities for all pupils including circuits in the back park for
“run-a-mile”. A total of £183.59 was raised and a fun day was had by all.
Neev MacLachlan (P7) raised £38.69 with sales of her delicious baking.
6. EASTER SERVICE
A reminder that all pupils from P1-7 will attend our Easter Service at Kemnay Parish Church on
Thursday 29 March at 11.00a.m. A collection will be taken.
Space is limited but please join us if you can.
7. SAFETY ALERT
A bracelet made of Jequirity beans has been on sale from outlets across the UK and there is a
health issue in relation to the bean if chewed. The bean contains a toxin called abrin which can
cause vomiting, diarrhoea and in extreme cases it may be fatal.
If you have one of these bracelets you should return it to the retailer.
Any helpers for P6 cycling ? Monday mornings and Thursday mornings.
If you can help in any way please contact the school office.
With Summer arriving I would ask that you provide your child with some suncream (name and
class clearly marked on tube/container).
10. CEILIDH TIME
Congratulations to Mrs Stewart, Miss Hughes and the P4 pupils who organised, presented and
participated in their Ceilidh last week. Thank you to parents/families who supported the event.
We received a lovely email from one grandmother who praised the music, singing, poetry,
dancing and the tasty ‘fly cup’.
11. CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Pupils in P1/2 shared their learning with friends and family, playing musical instruments, singing
and explaining the story. It was very entertaining and wonderful to see the confidence with which
the children perform.

12. GREASE : P7 Performance : SOLD OUT
It’s going to be terrific !!
13. BASKETBALL NEWS
Once again our players are achieving success through lots of hard work and practice.
P7 pupils, Callum, Scott, Cameron and Ben joined 4 Kintore pupils in a regional competition,
reaching the final and only narrowly lost in extra time.
The Under 12 players achieved 3rd place. Scott and Cameron (P7), Joshua (P5) and Kyle (P4)
formed part of the team.
We are grateful to Caitlin Robbie, Fraser and Cameron Cheyne, Calum Scott, Adam Bunton,
Reece Brown and Matthew Law for coaching our youngsters.
The Under 14’s (including Callum Campbell, P7) beat Alford with a very impressive display
(95-45) and earned a well deserved Super League trophy.
Former pupil, Cameron Cheyne, has been picked to represent Scotland and will be attending a
training camp in Norway next month.
Lego Workshop : Kemnay Academy - 10 pupils took part in this event which allowed
the pupils from 4 cluster schools to work together in mixed teams to achieve their challenge.
Cara McDonald (P3) - Congratulations to Cara who obtained her
green belt in Soo Yang Do.
