SIGN UP FOR THE ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER by sending your name, mailing address and Email
address to: It will offer you more information on a more timely basis. We
will be sending out “newsbytes” periodically to inform you and remind you of upcoming events instead of
trying to get them all into a monthly newsletter. To save money, we are looking at limiting this paper
newsletter to quarterly or eliminating it completely.

The City of Sylvan Lake - the cost of being our own independent City Back in 1947 when the Village
became a “City,” Things were obviously a lot different, costs were significantly lower, regulations were far
less stringent or non-existent for some things and there were fewer expectations. Our forefathers wanted the
City to be independent, self sustaining and private. That is why you do not see signs on Orchard Lake Road
or our water tower that advertise the City’s location, we have our own Water and Sewer systems, Police
Department, etc. We won’t take up space in this newsletter to explain all various aspects of what that
means. We’ll put a little bit in each newsletter. Part of cost to keep our City “private” is a relatively new
regulation that requires us to pay property taxes on our park property if it is not open to the public. Because
of our new Community Center and its value, the taxes for the Community Center property have increased
from approximately $5,200 per year to approximately $13,500 per year. Plus we pay taxes on the Ferndale
park to keep that private too.
