Summer 2012 Pullen Arts Center Courses

 Jewelry - Beginning Metal
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 Design and construct earrings, pins, pendants, charms, or other small objects and tokens in this basic metal
 working class. Students will learn to saw, file, hammer, and solder wire and sheet metals to create individual
 projects. Students purchase silver for projects (orders taken first class, approx. $30) Optional jewelry kits will be
 available for $25. The kit will provide each student with solder, sawblades, drill bit, sandpaper and a small amount
 of copper to get started on projects. Instructor: Betty McKim, Megan Clark, Amy Veatch, Julie Brooks, or Julia
 Cozart (6 sessions).

 Jewelry - Enameling Club
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 This open studio session is for students with previous enameling experience who want to use Pullen Arts' kilns.
 Enameling experience does not have to be from Pullen Arts classes, but students must either be current studio
 card holders or currently enrolled in another class. Students should come with shapes/materials ready to enamel
 to make the most of their time. Supply fee of $10 payable at class. Facilitator: Julie Brooks

 Jewelry - Enameling Introduction
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 Come explore fusing ground glass onto metal in this introductory enameling course. There are many methods of
 technique and application that provide widely varying results. In this course students will explore several basic
 enameling techniques, and will utilize both the kiln and the torch as a means to fuse the glass. Students are
 encouraged to bring an open mind, a willingness to experiment and work hard as the possibilities are endless!
 Prerequisite: Beginning Metal at Pullen Arts Center. Students should expect to pay approx $10-20 for supplies at
 first class. Instructor: Julie Brooks. (2 sessions).

 Jewelry - Hydraulic Press Class
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 Learn how to emboss, raise metal, and make hollow forms while maintaining surface embellishment. Prerequisite:
 Beginning Jewelry at Pullen Arts. Silver ordered 1st class (approx. $30). Instructor: Amy Veatch (6 sessions).

 Jewelry - Mark Making in Enameling
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 So, you know how to sift enamel and are comfortable with experimentation. . . .what's next? Do you love to draw
 or have a flair for organic or bold design? In this intermediate enameling workshop, learn how to utilize drawing
 and computer aided graphics (such as Photoshop and clip art) to create images by screens and decals.
 Demonstrations will include: 'glitter and glue' application methods, producing and using screen printing
 techniques, and making and firing water slide decals. This will not be a class demonstrating computer skills, only
 how to apply them to enamels. A supply list will also be sent out upon registration receipt for basic items.
 Prerequisite: Beginning Enameling - knowledge of basic sifting and firing techniques as these will not be covered
 in this workshop. Instructor: Julie Brooks (2 days)

 Jewelry - Metal Continuing
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 Continue to expand your skills working independently and on assigned projects to further your knowledge of
 jewelry techniques. Explore methods of stone setting and hollow form construction. Silver supplies ordered first
 class (approx. $30). Optional kits will be available for $25. The kits will provide each student with solder,
 sawblades, drill bit, sandpaper and a small amount of copper to get started on projects. Prerequisite: Beginning
 Metal Jewelry at Pullen Arts. Instructors: Lillian Jones or Julie Brooks (6 sessions).

 Jewelry - Torch fired Enameling
 Age 16 yrs. and up.
 Torch fired enameling is a fast and fun way to add color to your jewelry. In this workshop, students will learn
 methods to shape and texture copper, creating forms to enamel with a jewelers torch. We will experiment with
 enameling techniques of sifting, shading, stenciling, layering color, wet-packing, fusing small glass beads, and
 sugar firing. Techniques for setting enamels will be covered. Basic metalworking skills required. Instructor:
