Dear Parents

Welcome to the beginning of a new academic year for your child.

The children have returned refreshed, ready to learn and full of energy. They are readily adapting to
new routines and appear confident and happily settled into their new classes.

If for any reason, you are concerned about your child please do not hesitate to talk to your child’s new
class teacher after school or make an appointment for a longer discussion.

This term we welcome Miss Vicky Sharman to our team who will be covering for Miss Smith who is
currently on maternity leave and Miss Emma Punt who has joined us as a teaching assistant working
with Mrs. Bonney in Purple Class.

Unfortunately Mrs. Batey broke her arm during her holiday and is patiently waiting for it to heal. Mrs.
Sandra Horncastle will be teaching in Yellow Class with Mrs. Batey and Mrs. Cobb for the first two weeks
of the term.

Mrs. Walker, who is expecting her second baby, has decided to not return to her post. We are pleased
that Mrs. White will continue to teach Orange Class and be a permanent member of our team.

School Meals

The cost of a school meal is £1.90 per day (£9.50 per week). Please send dinner money in an
envelope marked with your child’s name and class colour. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Eden
Foodservices’. If you pay weekly please send the money on a Monday morning.
If you would like to pay for half a term the cost will be £64.60 (up to 21st October) and then £64.60
(from 1st November to 16th December). The dinner menus are available from the kitchen.
We will be starting a booking system for school meals to allow parents to choose from the menu and
book their child’s meals for the forthcoming week.

Attendance

To achieve a termly attendance award your child should:

1.       be punctual for registration - morning session 08.50 a.m. to 12.00 a.m.
                                      - afternoon session 1.00 p.m. to 3.10 p.m.
2.      attend school regularly – children do not lose their attendance mark for a dental or doctor’s
        appointment.

Certificates are awarded for 100% school attendance/punctuality at the end of every term. Please
ensure the school is notified about any absence from school. The registers are checked every six weeks
and any unexplained absences will be followed up.
The Headteacher is only allowed to authorise a child/ren going on holiday in "exceptional"
circumstances.
An official holiday application form should be completed and returned to the school office.

Admissions

It is very important that the details we hold on your child’s registration form in the office are up to date.
Please complete your new admission form and return it to us as soon as possible. If your child has a
medical condition or is on regular medication please ensure that this is recorded on the form. All
medicines should be handed in at the office by an adult and the relevant form completed.

Parents with children born between 1/9/07 and 31/8/08:

All parents with a child born between the above dates must apply to the LA for a place for their child in
their local school. Families living in both our catchment and out of our catchment area, who would like
their child to attend this school in September 2012, must fill in a request form and return it to the
school office for recorded return to the Central Bedfordshire Council Offices. This form may also be
accessed via the Central Bedfordshire website and completed on-line. The LA using the admissions
criteria will then offer places. The Governing Body of the school have prioritised children attending our
Foundation Unit over other children from out of catchment to help to ensure continuity of education but
forms must be returned to the Local Authority by the deadline on the form. We will advise
you when the forms are available from the council. (Later this term.)

Parking and Traffic

If you bring your child to school by car, please make sure you do not obstruct resident’s driveways or
emergency vehicle access to the school. Please remind your child to take extra care when crossing the
school car park and to not play near parked cars.
Play Apparatus

Please can children not use the wooden play apparatus at the side of the school playground and in the
paddock by Orange Class either before or after school without adult supervision.

Volunteer help in school

If you would be interested in volunteering to come into school to hear children read on a regular basis,
or help children in their lessons, then please ask any member of staff. All volunteers must have current
CRB clearance to work with children. If you would like to volunteer and need a CRB form to complete
please ask in the office.

Parent Teacher Association

The PTA provides excellent support to the school and all monies raised from the events, organised and
run by parent and staff volunteers, provides essential new equipment for the children.

We really need your help and support to continue to run the PTA. We would like to recruit willing
volunteers who are able to help organise and run events for the children.

If you would like to find out more about the association or how you can help at events, the next AGM is
on Tuesday 20th September at 7.30 p.m. in the school. This meeting will be followed by a PTA
planning meeting at 8.00 p.m.

Breakfast and After-school clubs

Our breakfast club runs from 7.30 to 8.45 a.m. every school day and is open to all children from Silver
Class to Year 4. If your child is in part-time education Aunty Shirley will collect your child from us after
the session and provide care for your child until the start of the after-school club.
The after-school club runs every school day from 3.10 to 5.30 p.m. The cost for both school clubs is
£2.50 per hour. If you would like more information or wish to make a booking please phone Vicky
Rothwell, the club manager, on 07960 364040.
Further information and booking forms are available from the school office or the school
website.

Premises

We have had new blinds installed in the classrooms over the summer holidays as many of the old
venetian blinds were broken and not fit for purpose. We have also had a new stage installed in the hall.
Mr. Woodhouse has been busy decorating and completing maintenance jobs around the school whilst
the children were on holiday.
