   Fear, fear, fear
     Don’t   be “Charming Billy”!
   American’s top three fears:
      1. Snakes
      2. Public speaking
      3. Death
             Effects of Fear
   Heartbeat increases
   Dry mouth
   Feeling faint or
    nauseous
   Trembling voice
   Shaky legs
                           RELAX
   Rapid speech
                           Normal to feel
   Stutter, tripping       these things
    over words
                           Can overcome
                            these feelings
           Other Fears
                      Nooooooo!
 Looking foolish
 Being laughed at
 Being looked at
 Talking to peers
 Making mistakes


                         It’s okay,
                     mistakes happen.
      Conquer Your Fear
 Be well prepared
 Practice your
  speech
 Have a back-up
  plan
 Do not worry about
  your audience
 Relax yourself before you begin
         Be Well Prepared
 Leave nothing to
  chance
 Know your material
     Have needed material
     (notecards, pictures,
     etc.)
   Know your audience
               Practice
 Practice alone
 In front of a mirror
 Record yourself
 In front of a friendly
  audience

      reduce fear of an audience
