Four main ideas of the Particle
              Model
1. All matter is made up of tiny
   __________________
2. The particles are always _____________
3. The particles have _________________
   between them
4. Adding ___________ to matter makes
   the particles __________________.

• Is the ______________
  that is given when we
  heat something.

• It causes

Why do we need to know this
              theory?
• The particle model of
  matter explains _______
  matter changes from solid
  to liquid to gas

• Adding heat causes the

          of particles

Define melting point, boiling point and
freezing point by using the key terms heat
     energy, particles, movement and
              change in state

Use the example for melting point on the
              next slide…
               Melting Point

The melting point is the temperature at which
enough heat energy has been applied to the
particles in SOLID matter to increase their
movement. When there is enough movement,
the particles have enough energy to break away
from each other, changing the state from solid
to a liquid.
              Boiling Point

The boiling point

During freezing,
