Dear Parents,
Parent conferences are under way. Each of you should be hearing from your child’s teacher about the need for a spring
conference. Of course, you are always welcome to set an appointment to discuss your child’s needs throughout the year. We
earned high marks for the School Improvement Plan we submitted to the district and the Dept. of Education. It is attached to the
email version of this newsletter and is also linked on the Lopez website.
Please be sure to read the entire newsletter carefully. Spring has ushered in a lot of activity here at Lopez, and there are no
signs of it slowing before June!

No School - Friday, April 13 & Monday, April 16
                                                                                                         rd
Students are not in school Friday, April 13, for a K-12 conference day and Monday, April 16, is our 3 collaboration day.
Enjoy your children over this four day weekend.

Lunchroom - New Procedure for Tuesday, April 17
Beginning Tuesday, April 17, lunchroom visitors will proceed through the lunch line in the following order: first take their tray,
next items from the fruit and vegetable bars, then their main dish and hot vegetables, then enter their ID number for the cashier
and finally stop at the condiment and utensil table. We believe this order will assure that each student receives the minimum
requirement of three items including one fruit and one vegetable. As always, parents are welcome to join us for lunch.
Effective Tuesday, May 1, students will not be allowed to charge for meals. Please consider adding enough money to their lunch
account to cover through the end of the year. Any unused funds will transfer to the 2012-13 school year.

Kindergarten Transition Day - Wed., Apr. 18 - 1:00- 2:30 p.m. Welcome 2012-2013 Kindergartners!
Your 2012-13 kindergartner is invited to join our amazing kindergarten teachers from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.
This transition time is designed to help the children become familiar and comfortable with our kindergarten program. On this day
students will work together on a project, enjoy a snack and experience recess. You don't need to bring anything other than your
child. We ask that parents only stay if you feel your child will experience a high level of anxiety without you. It is very exciting for
us to meet and welcome our new little Lopez Lasers!

Last Day to Donate “Change for Change” - April 3-17, 2012
Mrs. Brennan’s fourth grade class has been given a challenge from Houska Automotive. The challenge is to raise as much money
as possible for the kids and teens wing of a local Fort Collins Cancer Center. Houska Automotive will match the money we raise up
to $500. Our school name will be on a plaque of thanks in the cancer center. Tuesday, April 17, is the last day to donate
change!

Whole Foods Small Change Adds Up - April 9th – July 1, 2012
Get the word out; shop at Whole Foods, bring in your reusable bags, and donate your $.10 bag credits to Lopez! ALL members
of the Fort Collins Community can participate and help us fund our wonderful programs . Lopez Elementary has been
selected as Whole Foods' recipient for their Small Change Adds Up program for the third quarter (APRIL,
MAY & JUNE). Every ten cent bag refund that gets donated by our guests will go directly to Lopez to fund our “All Eyes On
Me” project. “All Eyes On Me” is a plan to upgrade our technology teaching lab with a SMART Board, proper seating (so the
students aren’t craning their necks to see the projector), and working toward going completely paperless.
This is a generous program and we are excited for the opportunity to improve the computer lab for our students! We sincerely
thank Whole Foods for choosing Lopez!

Live @ Lopez - April 27, 2012 - Pre-Sale Ticket Order Form attached
WOW, check out the grand prizes listed on the new Live@Lopez flyer! The “Pre-Sale Ticket Order Form” to order food, raffle,
grand prize tickets and admission before the event is on our webiste. The first 300 people who buy admission will receive a
coupon for a FREE Chick-fil-A sandwich.
LIVE @ LOPEZ 2012---STILL SEEKING OUTSIDE DONATIONS & CORPORATE SPONSORS!
Please consider helping our school by soliciting donations we can use in our silent auction and shop-n-drop raffle. All outside
donations need to be turned into the office by April 13, 2012, in order to be included in our event program and donations are tax-
deductible. Remember...the more donations we get the more money we can raise for our school!
Looking for a fun and easy way to help Lopez? Consider volunteering to work a shift during "Live @ Lopez 2012" on Friday,
April 27, 2012! It takes many hands to make this event a success so if you can volunteer to help please contact Chad Juarez at
chad.juarez@hotmail.com to sign up for a shift! Thanks!
