Finding Your New Home

The Illinois Center for Broadcasting does not offer housing for its students. The school is
located on 530 S. State Street, Chicago, Illinois. The zip code is 60605. We recommend
doing your apartment/home search by zip code so that you find a place in close proximity
to the school. Searching for a place to live from a distance can be a daunting task, which
is why it is best to do some research before visiting Chicago. The search aids below may
be helpful to you. Choose a number of properties with your criteria so that you can visit
them and determine which will be the best fit. Be sure to mention to the
landlord/property manager that you are enrolling in a ten month program and may need a
pro-rated leasing option, should you be offered a job outside of Chicago upon completion
of the program.

                        Moving Companies
When choosing a moving company, it is wise to receive written estimates from at
least three companies. Have them include the conditions of the estimate in case the
final cost exceeds the estimate. If you need to hire a moving crew, please inquire
about references at the Admissions Office.

            Automobile Registration and
                 Licensing
“I have just moved to Illinois from another state and need to know how to convert
my state title to an Illinois title…” or “I need to get an Illinois Driver’s License!
Help?”

To register your vehicle and title with the state of Illinois, you would need to
bring in a copy of your registration (if there is a lien-holder, bring in a copy of
your lien-holder) to your local Secretary of State office. You would then need to
fill out a couple of forms. You would then need to pay a registration fee of
$194.00 ($95.00 for the title, $99.00 for your new Illinois license plates). If there
is NO lien-holder, the new Illinois title will be sent back to your lien-holder. To
change over your license, bring in your out-of-state license to your local Secretary
of State office with EITHER a passport OR birth certificate AND your social
security car AS WELL AS two bills with your NAME and new Illinois address.
You would then take a 20-25 question multiple-choice test. Upon passing, you
will pay a $30.00 licensing fee and leave with your new Illinois driver’s license.

                                  Employment
There are a number of search engines on the internet that can provide information
regarding local job openings. Because we offer daytime and evening classes,
students at ICB hold part time and full time positions while attending school.
Here are some places to consider searching:

                                    Climate
Chicago has an extreme climate with very hot summers and bitterly cold winters, its
lakeside setting only slightly moderating the temperatures and adding some humidity
to the atmosphere. Chicago has distinct seasons, with a short spring, when
temperatures are moderate and nights frosty. Summers are hot, sunny and humid,
from June to the end of September, and are prone to thunderstorms. August is usually
the wettest month of the year. Autumn is a lovely time of year when the air is crisp
and cool, with blue skies and sunshine. Winters in Chicago are icy and prone to cold,
   harsh winds. Snow is common.
