Zend Server 4.0 Beta 2 Release Announcement
Thank you for your participation in the Zend Server 4.0 beta program. Your involvement will help us ensure we
best address your needs and deliver even higher quality products.

What’s new in Zend Server 4.0 Beta 2
This beta release of Zend Server introduces multiple bug fixes, improvements and enhancements, the most
important ones are listed below:

Updates and Improvements
PHP version updated to 5.2.9 - the full list of changes can be found here:
         http://www.php.net/releases/5_2_9.php
CURL libraries were updated to version 7.19.4 - the full list of changes can be found here:
         http://curl.haxx.se/changes.html
Zend Framework version was updated to version 1.7.5
Performance improvements to the communication between the GUI and the Apache web server on Linux
         and Mac
Linux DEB/RPM: The '/ZendServer' directory used for communications between the GUI and the Apache
web server was moved to a separate, port-based virtual host. This should resolve most conflicts with non-
         default Apache configurations.
Linux: A graceful Apache restart option was added to zendctl.sh
Windows: the ext/intl extension was added to the common extensions
Versions of the ibm_db2 and imagick extensions were updated

Resolved Issues

Installation Issues
Issue Number Description
23991 After the Zend Server upgrading process, the browser may display HTTP error 500 instead of the Zend
                  Server login page.

GUI Issues
Issue Number Description
23821 When a restart PHP is required, a message appears. Clicking the Restart PHP button may not remove the
Restart Required message, even though the PHP was restarted
24013 Zend Server trims the leading and trailing spaces in the password field
24096 The phpMyAdmin link from the GUI does not work in RPM packages
24181 GUI performance degradation when the server is unable to connect to updates.zend.com
24510 Running gui_passwd.sh might return an error.

Monitor Issues
Issue Number Description
24006 Monitor extension may crash when an internal SoapClient call returns an error.
22955 Database locking in high load may cause event data corruption
23814 Invalid mail settings may cause the monitor daemon to crash at startup

Cache Issues
Issue Number Description
23835 Page Cache may cause a segmentation fault when under heavy stress (Linux only)
23882 Data Cache shared memory storage may cause a crash when under heavy stress (Windows Only)
Limitations
Upgrading to this version might cause some of the settings (for example GUI password) to be
overwritten with default settings. This is due to some modifications to the different configuration
management mechanisms, in order to enable better configuration management in the future.
IBM Informix connectivity through PDO_INFORMIX is only possible if the Informix CSDK client libraries are
pre-installed on the server. Zend Server does not ship these libraries, and the user is expected to install
         them before enabling these extensions

At a glance
Zend Server is a complete, enterprise-ready Web application server for running and managing PHP applications
that require a high level of reliability, performance and security.

Zend Server 4.0 comes in two editions; Zend Server 4.0 Community Edition (CE) and Zend Server 4.0, which is the

Integrated installers that are native to the OS (RPM/DEB/MSI)
          Web-based Administration Interface
          Out-of-the-box database connectivity
          And more…

Data caching – A set of functions that allow developers to cache data in memory or on disk

Application Monitoring and Diagnostics
Zend Server monitors PHP application execution in production and alerts you to critical issues, such as:
         Slow PHP script execution
         PHP errors
         Errors in specific function calls
         Excess memory usage
         Errors in called Java code

Known Issues
The following sections describe known issues and general problems in the Zend Server 4.0 Beta release:

Installation Issues
Issue Number Description
23803 Windows: when upgrading from Zend Server CE to Zend Server, both products appear in the Control Panel
                 | Add or Remove Programs.
23922 Windows: Installation repair utility may stop without warning.
24000 Windows: the Zend Server installer is unable to install MySQL Server when MySQL Workbench is already
                 installed.
Workaround: Either remove MySQL workbench prior to the Zend Server installation or install MySQL
                 Server manually.
24430 Windows: Installing on IIS with a large number of virtual hosts causes the installation to freeze for a long
time when building the virtual hosts list
24407 Windows: Redundant file created at C:\Program after upgrade. This causes Windows to show a warning
                 message popup
Workaround: it is safe to ignore the warning popup and delete this file
24396 Windows: The Zend Controller icon is missing from the Start menu

GUI Issues
Issue Number Description
22578 Zend Server GUI might crash when Zend Loader is unloaded while Zend Optimizer+ is running.
24460 On some systems Internet Explorer does not allow JavaScript when accessing the UI through
                 http://127.0.0.1/
Workaround: access the UI through http://localhost/ or modify Internet Explorer trusted sites settings to
                 allow 127.0.0.1
24488 Boolean FALSE function arguments are not properly displayed in the Event Details Screen
24505 An empty path is not permitted when creating a new Page Cache rule
Workaround: Use a regular expression or manually edit the XML configuration file after saving the new
                 caching rule

Monitor Issues
Issue Number Description
23710 The Monitor Events filtering by 'Occurred after' does not work.
24475 Monitor extension might crash on sites that have a very large number (30,000+) of possible PHP URLs
Workaround: increase the shared memory allocation of Zend Monitor by changing the values of the
                 zend_monitor.shm_size and zend_monitor.max_shm_segment_size directives

General Issues
Issue Number Description
23740 Zend Server does not support SSL communication with Zend Studio when trying to debug an event.
24418 Page Cache: In cases where a rule matches tens of thousands of different URLs, excess directories created
under the cache directory might cause slowdowns
