                 Glen-Ella Springs Inn History

Built in 1875 and expanded in 1890, historic Glen-Ella Springs Inn was one of the many
traditional small hotels of its kind dotting North Georgia. Glen and Ella Davidson operated
the hotel with their five children from 1890 to 1915.

Rescuing the inn and seventeen acres of woods and meadow became the mission of Bobby
and Barrie Aycock, a Decatur, GA couple who, in the summer of 1986, began a year-long
process to restore and rejuvenate the historic inn. Leaving the original heart pine walls,
floors and ceilings intact where possible, they added the first bathrooms and electricity and
even uncovered several wonderful stacked stone fireplaces during the renovation process.
The Aycocks remained the Innkeepers until June 2008, when Ed and Luci Kivett fulfilled a
long time dream and became the new Innkeepers. With more than 25 years of combined
experience in meeting and event planning, Luci and Ed along with the entire Glen-Ella team,
work hard to ensure every aspect of your wedding experience is special and memorable.

Glen-Ella Springs Inn & Meeting Place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
and has received numerous awards and accolades. The inn has been a proud member of the
prestigious Select Registry (formerly Independent Innkeepers Association), publishers of the
Innkeepers Register, the most widely used and respected inn guidebook in North America since
1991 and recognized by Atlanta Magazine as “the best gourmet inn in North Georgia”.
Glen-Ella Springs features 16 lovely guestrooms and suites and a much acclaimed restaurant.
The Inn has been voted by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of the Top Dining Destinations
in the state since 2004. All of the guestrooms are individually decorated and the grounds are
a showplace of herb and perennial gardens. The lush gardens, a large swimming pool sun
deck, the glorious green meadow, and a wonderful open air pavilion make a lovely setting for
weddings, receptions and other celebrations.
      Flavor, Style and Setting – The Choice is Yours
Glen-Ella’s staff will help you plan a wedding weekend that you and your guests will always
remember as exceptional. Whether you are planning a bridesmaid’s luncheon, rehearsal
dinner, wedding and reception, farewell breakfast, or all of the above, you have many choices
in flavor, style, and setting. From a barbecue with bluegrass around the pool, to a seated
candlelight dinner in the pavilion with fine linens and silver, we will coordinate the menu
with the serving pieces and setting to create the atmosphere you want. You may wish the
whole weekend to be outdoors and casual with baskets, pottery, and wildflowers, or you
might like to mix styles such as a Low-Country boil rehearsal party and an elegant wedding
reception with beautiful linens and the finest foods in our repertoire. It is your special
weekend and the choice is yours.

A description of the various settings available as well as a range of suggested menus for a
variety of wedding weekend events follows. As you begin your planning, we hope this
information will give you a picture of our flexibility, creativity and commitment to quality

The Dining Rooms –    Back Dining Room – Seats 30-35 people
                      Front Dining Room – Seats 30-35 people*
                      French doors adjoin dining rooms. Both have heart pine floors, and
                      original stone fireplaces
                     *Only one dining room may be used if the group has not reserved all
                     inn rooms.
The Dining Terrace – Seats 25-35 people. Overlooks the garden and is covered.
                      Often used for buffet set-up.
The Garden –          In bloom April through October with a Gazebo that is often used
                      as a focal point for exchange of vows.
The Lower Garden – Perennial and evergreen garden with grass center makes a lovely
                      setting for vow exchange; seating about 130 people, may also be
                      tented for a lovely buffet area.
The Pool Deck –      Seats 50-60 people. Tents are available to rent.
                      Often used for set-up of band, dancing, and mingling.
The Meadow –          May be set up as an outdoor “chapel” or overflow seating.
The Pavilion –        Seats 150 people. For larger events used for buffet set-up and
                      dining area or for the band and dancing. Clear Vinyl sides roll down
                      to provide a heated area in winter months.

The Banquet Room –       Seats 60 people, buffet only
                            The Wedding Day
The lower garden is the most favored spot for the exchange of vows, yet some couples
prefer the garden gazebo or the meadow. You choose the spot you like best, and we will
help determine the logistics needed to carry out your plans.

     * A non-refundable deposit of $1,975.00 is required upon booking. Another deposit
       of $1,975.00 is required 3 months in advance. Both apply to the final invoice.

    * Maximum event capacity is 250 guests. There will be an additional $5.00 per person
      charge for each guest over 100.

     * There is a $750 refundable damage deposit added to the final bill.
       Glen-Ella Springs Inn reserves the right to assess and invoice for any damages to
       the property during your event, to include grounds, rooms and buildings.

     * Price is based on 4 hour event maximum. Events exceeding 4 hours may be
       subject to an additional charge.

    * Amplified music is allowed until 10:00 pm.

     * Please note all prices noted in this Wedding Planning Guide are subject to change.

     * Personal checks are accepted and encouraged. If paying by credit card, a 3.5%
       surcharge will be added.

The wedding party must reserve all 16 rooms at the inn for Friday and Saturday nights. The
person booking the event must guarantee payment for any rooms not paid for by their

In my portfolio you will see that most of my cakes are decorated with fresh flowers,
Cake topper, ribbons; the cost of the decorations is added to your florist bill, unless
otherwise arranged.

The total cost of the cake includes delivery and set-up. A 25% deposit is due at least two weeks prior to the
wedding. It is refundable up to the Monday morning before the wedding.

I bake all of my cakes from scratch, with the good stuff – butter, sugar, quality flour, etc.
I bake the cake usually the day before the wedding, and decorate the next morning. My
cakes are never frozen.

This year I am offering a tasting in January for spring brides and April for fall brides. This is
always a fun time. You can look at flowers, taste cakes and go through the wedding cake

December 2005 - We have had many complaints about inaccurate directions to the inn
provided by GPS and On Star.
If you are using one of these services you may use these coordinates and not the street
N 34° 43.261 W 083° 26.944
We do however recommend you print the directions below and use them as final directions
to the inn. Also, please note we are located on an unpaved road that is narrow in places and
can be quite dusty and bumpy in the summer. The road has been here for over 100 years
though, and is seldom muddy or treacherous. First time visitors are encouraged to arrive
before dark if possible. We have made every effort to give you comprehensive directions
here, but feel free to call us from your cell phone if you need to.
From Atlanta - 90 Miles -
Take I-85 North, to I-985 to Gainesville which is Exit 113 on I-85. After Gainesville, this
will become GA 365, then US 441. Continue north past exits to Cornelia, & Clarkesville.
* At the Tom Arrendale Interchange stay straight on US 441 towards Clayton for 7 more
miles. (Hwy 365 will go towards Toccoa). At mile marker 18, turn left on Travis Smith Rd.,
go one block then turn right onto Old Historic 441. Take the first left onto Orchard Road
(there may not be a street sign but there is a large directional sign for The Orchard Country
Club & Community). Go to the second paved road on the right and turn onto Bear Gap
Road. Bear Gap Road will turn into gravel, but continue on for approximately another ½ -
¾ mile. The Inn is located approximately 1 -1/2 miles down Bear Gap Rd.

From Clayton - US 441 south through Tallulah Gorge State Park. Turn right on Old
Historic 441- 2 miles south of the Tallulah Gorge Bridge (do not take any earlier turns
marked Old 441, they will not work). Take the first right on Shirley Grove Rd. and the
second left on Col. Hough Rd. and follow signs. Please note this is approximately 3 - 3 ½
miles of gravel road and you will ford a small creek.

From Clarkesville - take Old Historic 441 North for 8-1/2 miles to Orchard Rd. Turn left
and then take the second paved road to the right on Bear Gap Road and follow the signs.

From GA 400 - Follow GA 400 until it ends, then continue straight on Hwy 115 through
Cleveland to Clarkesville. There is another right turn after about 5 miles. Stay on Hwy 115
until it comes to a dead end in downtown Clarkesville. Turn left onto Historic Old 441 and
follow directions from Clarkesville.

From Greenville, SC - From I-85 take Exit 173, GA Hwy 17 North towards Toccoa
(Appalachian Foothills Highway). Go 12.2 miles and turn left following Hwy 17 for about
12 more miles until it intersects with US 23 & 441. Turn right on US 441 north and follow
directions from the * Tom Arrendale Interchange from Atlanta above.
