                               The Stars

“Then God said: Let there be lights in the sky to give light to the earth and to identify
the day and the night; they shall serve as signs and bring about the seasons on the
earth and mark the days of the years.” (Gen.1:14)
They shall serve as signs.

Because the firmament is so tremendously vast, we can’t measure it in kilometres or
miles—as a matter of fact, we can’t measure it at all; we can only more or less
establish some distances by measuring it by the speed of light.

“In one second light travels about 300 000 kilometres; that means seven times around
the earth in only one second!
In one year light travels 9 460 563 000 kilometres—this we call one light year. Let’s
see whether I can even pronounce it: Nine thousand four hundred and sixty million
five hundred and sixty three thousand kilometres. I hope this is right! One light year.

The distance from the earth to the sun is 150 000 000, kilometres and it takes only 8
minutes from the sun to the earth. (A hundred and fifty million kilometres) The moon
is only one second away!”
No, I did not measure it; I just have to believe what the learned people say about it;
this is a quotation from the book of the astronomer Gideon Joubert, “Die Groot
Gedagte.”

We have a DVD with the name of “Indescribable” that shows some of the galaxies
from photos sent back from the Voyager from millions of kilometres away.
(The Voyager was launched in 1977 and it is still speeding away from the earth at
great speed, into the immeasurable space.)
These photos are totally indescribable, and this is but one drop in the ocean of this
vast space.
By who was it made?

“For My hand made all these things; and so it came into being, says the Lord.”
(Isa.66:2)
Then how big is this Maker?
“Who else has held the oceans in his hands and measured off the heavens with his
span? Who else knows the weight of all the earth and weighs the mountains and the
hills?” (Jes.40:12)

Well! This vast firmament that we try to measure with the speed of light, is measured
by this Maker with his span—between the thumb and forefinger! Wow!

In the Bible there are many scriptures where God spoke of the stars as well as of the
different galaxies, while He knew quite well that the people of the time had no way of
ever understanding the vastness of the heavens; and while He also knew that in our
time the Hubble spaceship would be launched, and that, when we received the photos,
we would still be more stunned than Job was when he viewed the same stars!

“Only He has stretched the heavens out and walked on the sea. He made the Bear, the
                                                                                           2

Orion and the Pleiades, and the constellations of the southern Zodiac.” (Job.9:8,9) It is
easy for us to know who it is that walked on the sea while His disciples were in the
boat; it was Jesus. For those disciples it was such a miracle, for they didn’t know that
He was the same who measured the heavens with His span! Today we know it.
(Matt.14:26,27)

Job had no idea of how great God was! God asked him: “Can you hold back the stars?
Can you restrain Orion or Pleiades? Can you guide the constellation of the Bear with
her satellites across the heavens? Do you know the laws of the universe?” (Job.38:31-
33) The same as us today, Job had no idea!

Here God asked Job: “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth, as
the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-9)

Amos also tried to sing the glory and Almighty-ness of God, this Maker of the stars:
“He who created the Seven Stars and the constellation Orion, who turns darkness into
morning…” (Amos 5:8)

“O Lord our God, the majesty and glory of your name fills all the earth and overflows
the heavens.
When I look up into the night skies and see the work of your fingers—the moon and
stars you have made…” (Ps.8:1-3)
Just shot them forth from His fingertips!

“The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvellous display of His
craftsmanship.
Day and night they keep on telling about God; without a sound or a word, silent in the
skies, their message reaches out to all the world.
The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it; the sun crosses the heaven from end
to end, and nothing can hide from its heat.” (Ps.19:1-7)

The sun is our nearest star; one out of thousands of millions other stars. Look to the
stars; look at the universe; listen what they are telling you so silently without a word
or a sound: “For all heaven declares that he is just.” (Ps.50:6)
Some of these stars are so tremendously big that on a scale where that specific star is
as big as a grape fruit, the sun is just like a tiny dot.

“It is God who sits above the circle of the earth. (The people below—you and I—
must seem to him like grasshoppers!) He is the one who stretches out the heavens like
a curtain and makes his tent from them.” (Isa.40:22)

“And God said: “Let there be light! And there was light!” (Gen.1:3)
The moment God opened His mouth, from His mouth came that tremendous light!
“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the Spirit of his mouth all
the galaxies of stars.” (Ps.33:6)

Just look up by night and see how the stars are praising the tremendous glory of God,
their Maker! “Praise him sun and moon and all you twinkling stars; praise him skies
above! For he issued his command and they came into being; he established them
forever; his law will never be provoked!” (Ps.148:3-7)
                                                                                       3

This is the law of gravity.

“The Lord, your Redeemer who made you says, all things were made by Me; I alone
stretched out the heavens. By Myself I made the earth and everything in it; who was
with Me?” (Isa.44:24)

“It was My hand that laid the foundations of the earth; the palm of my right hand
spread out the heavens above; I spoke and they came into being.” (Isa.48:13)

“O Lord God! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power; nothing is
too hard for you!” (Jer.32:17)

“In the beginning God made the heaven and the earth.” (Gen.1:1) “In the beginning
the Word was…and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh.” (John 1:1-
14) “All things became through Him; and without Him nothing became that had
become.”(John 1:3)
“And the Word became flesh…”
It still was the very same Word that was God in the beginning, who still was God
when He became flesh—He can’t change.

To herald His birth in the flesh He sent some of His stars as a sign; and it passed so
silently and unseen, only a few astronomers from the east—wise men—saw His sign
and came to look for Him. (Matt.2:1-12) The rest of the world just went on with their
everyday work and play, just as it is today.
They didn’t know Him: “He was in the world, and the world became through Him,
and the world knew Him not.
He came unto His own possessions, and His own received Him not.” (John 1:10-11)

This indescribable great God who measured the universe with His span and shot the
stars from His fingertips was born on earth as a human baby; He grew up like any
other man and lived among His own people for 30 years—and none of them had any
idea that God lived among them! (1 Tim.3:16. Luke 19:44)

After thirty years, when His earthly service started and He did those indescribable
miracles—and walked on the see as written in their Book—they ridiculed and mocked
Him and said he was from the devil!

Only a handful of the ordinary people knew that he was no ordinary man—for the rest
it passed unknowingly. This was by far the biggest event that ever happened in the
history of the human race—and they had no idea of what was busy happening in their
midst! The Creator of the Universe lived as a Man amongst men!

Just prior to His crucifixion Jesus, Creator of the heaven and the earth, told His
followers that, when he would return, there again will be signs in the sun, moon and
stars, and again His sign will appear in the heaven. (Matt.24:29,30)
He had it written down for us to be able to know it, for it will be in our time.

Only after His resurrection He made Himself known to them:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, says the Lord God who
IS, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty!” (Rev.1:8)
                                                                                         4

“I am the first and the last and the Living One; and I became dead, and lo, I am alive
unto the ages and the ages.” (Rev.1:17,18)
This is the same Creator God who always was, who always is, and who will soon be
coming back again to earth; will His “own people” know and receive Him this time?

“Jesus Christ is the same; yesterday, today and forevermore!” (Heb.13:8)

“Yesterday” was way from the creation in the beginning, all through the time of the
Old Testament until the crucifixion. “Today” was in the time of the apostle Paul
when He wrote these words at the command of Holy Spirit. And “forevermore” is for
the past 2000 years as well as for today, and unto eternity.
Always one and the same God, Creator of heaven and earth!

As it is, the things prophesied for thousands of years for the last days, the days of the
second coming of Jesus, are happening today, without people noticing it—just as the
first time when this Creator God came to earth.

In the Old Testament this same God had it written down many times, that the people
of Israel would be scattered over the globe, that their land would become a desert, but
that in the last days they will again be brought back by God to their own land. That
already has happened and is busy happening, and instead that the peoples of the earth
sit up and give heed, they are fighting this nation!

On the 14th of May 1948 these Jews again received the country of Israel as their own
land—just as promised by God. Through the following years millions of Jews
returned to their country—as God promised.
In 1967 they took back Jerusalem after 2300 years as God promised. (Dan.8:14,26)
[2300 years after the battle of Alexander the Great at Jerusalem, in 333BC]

Since then all the things prophesied for the last days are busy happening all over the
earth, but the people eat and drink and buy and sell—without seeing what is going on,
exactly like the first time.

Now we are again waiting for a “sign in heaven.” The wise men, astronomers, say
that such a sign will appear with sunrise on the 22nd of December 2012—whether it
will be the sign, I don’t know—I just keep my ears open, my eyes on the stars and my
heart on the Almighty Maker of everything! (Matt.24:29)

His Name is the Lord Jesus Christ.
