At Pink Elephant, exclusivity is the name of the game. It is probably the most exclusive
club in NYC outside of Bungalow 8. It is also one of the city’s premier clubs primarily
spinning house, with some rock and hip-hop from time to time on week nights. Pink
Elephant used to be located in the Meatpacking District, but it moved to the more upscale
area of West Chelsea, where tons of other hot spots have popped up recently.
The crowd remains the same: Skinny young female things in heels and designer jeans and
the well to do men who seduce them with bottles above $1000! The new space is
definitely cozy, thanks to crystal chandeliers strung with pearls, plants sprouting from
behind the wavy wooden panels that are crawling on the curvaceous brick walls, and
lounge, creating mini-rooms that feel private while allowing for gawking. An aromatic
scent machine secretes libido-sparking hormones along with its flowery smells. From the
small sunken dancefloor, one is eye-level with the booties shaking above and arm’s
length away from the D.J., who on any given night will be spinning deep house and on a
good night might just be Paul Oakenfold or some other world famous name! And the club
is usually literally “packed” with celebrities. Recent celebrity sightings at Pink Elephant
include Bruce Willis, Prince, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Sean Combs, Eva Longoria,
Drew Barrymore, Hillary Duff, Jessica Simpson. Named for the fanciful hallucinations
that arise from too much drink, Pink Elephant is like a fantasy made real – you have to
visit it to believe it!
