IT drop in service at St John’s Wood Library
Provider: Library Services; Ward Budget contribution: £1,765
Weekly IT drop in sessions commenced in October 2010, with a series of specific workshops

Programme of Cultural Trips for older residents
Provider: Westminster Adult Education Service; Contribution: £5,000
A series of free group trips for older residents to cultural attractions such as the Royal Opera House,
Museums and Art Galleries across London. Trips are due to run from March through to August. For

Christmas Lights on St John’s Wood High Street
Provider: Abraxus; Contribution: £4,508.90
Lights were installed along the High Street at the end of November 2010 through to 6th January
2011. The lights were officially switched on by Danielle Lineker and her husband Gary, during the
Christmas Fair on the 28th November. The Fair was supported by a number of local businesses
along the High Street, as well as in the local area, and over £2,000 was raised on the day for the St
John’s Wood Hospice.
Monthly book club at St John’s Wood Library
Provider: Library Services, Contribution: £1,370
A monthly book club commenced in January, with visits from guest authors. Please visit the library,

Teenage writing group
Provider: Library services; Cost: £2,000
The library plan to establish a creative writing group for 14-16 year olds at the Library in conjunction
with Quintin Kynaston School.
Christmas Pantomime trip for 100 pupils of George Eliot Junior School
Provider: DreamArts; Cost: £1,000
100 pupils of George Eliot Junior School attended a modern production of A Christmas Carol at the
Cockpit Theatre on the 16th December 2010. Following the hour and a half long performance, the
children took part in interactive workshops with the actors. The children really enjoyed the trip, and
have sent a thank you book to the provider.
Contribution towards Neighbourcare Christmas Day lunch for the Elderly
Provider: Neighbourcare; Contribution: £700
The Christmas Day lunch was held at the Danubius Hotel from 12 – 2.30pm. 101 local people
enjoyed a 3 course lunch, along with entertainment and a small gift. Transport was also provided to
assist those with limited mobility to get to and from the event comfortably. Over 50% of those
attending were from St John’s Wood.

Bayswater
Trips for Older People
Provider: Westminster Adult Education Service, Total funding: £ £9,658
This project aims to reduce social isolation by enabling people over 60 to go on a day trip. Six trips
will be run between September 2010 and August 2011. To sign up for a trip contact Sindi Hearn at

Detached Youth Work
Provider: Westbourne Park Family Centre, Total funding: £10,000
This project is funded from 1 August 2010 to 31 March 2011 to work with young people in the ward
and from the Brunel and Wessex estates. WPFC is running evening sessions of detached youth
work and will develop other bespoke projects.
Hanging Baskets
Provider: Parks, Total funding: £3,529.95
18 Hanging baskets have been put up around the BID area, with additional funding being
contributed by the BID.
Festive Lights
Provider: Piggotts, Total funding: £2,430.50
Festive Lights were hung from lamp columns on Westbourne Grove and Bishops Bridge Road. The
switch on took place on Monday 29 November 2010.

Children’s art competition

Churchill
Petting farm at the Great Communities Day
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost £730
The Great Communities Day was held on 24th July.
Ebury Bridge Gardening Club
Provider: Groundwork London; Cost £4,785
Local volunteers are helping local young children plant vegetables in planters on the Estate. Since
July another 8 young people have become involved in the project.
Dog socialisation classes
Provider: Canine Culture; Cost £2,500
Four classes ran in November and December; the classes are planned to start again in the spring

Visiting Women at Work programme
Provider: Civitas; Cost £2,000
This programme will see around 40 young girls from local schools, aged 6 plus, given the
opportunity to visit successful women in business. They have already been to the Houses of
Parliament to visit women MPs.
Churchill Garden Community Choir
Provider: Sing London; Cost £2,500

Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust Activities
Provider: Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust, Total funding: £5,000
Ward budget funding has been used for a joint project between Churchill and Vincent Square wards
to fund a Summer Trip, a weekly programme of Women’s Development Sessions and a cultural

Christmas event for local older people
Provider: SouthWest Fest; Cost £1,000
This event took place on Saturday 4th December and approximately 100 residents attended.
Vegetable planters for Churchill Gardens Estate
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost £2,000
These planters will be placed to the rear of Elgin House, on the Estate, for resident use. Please
contact the Churchill Gardens Estate Office for more details.
Showers for Churchill Gardens Hall
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost £8,000
The funds are a contribution to a larger pot which the Residents Association are collecting which will
provide showers for use by the local boxing club and for Friday prayers in the Hall. Works will start
at the end of January and it is anticipated that the first Friday prayers will be held on 11th February
2011.

Church Street
Gateway School summer fair
Provider: Gateway School; Cost £1,000
The funds paid for a bungee trampoline to be hired for the fair.
Family days on the floating classroom
Provider: Beauchamp Lodge; Cost £8,025
Family days are being provided through the local schools (Gateway, St Edward’s, King Solomon
and ChristChurch Bentinck). Please contact the schools for more information.
Neighbourhood Play Day
Provider: Westminster Play Service; Cost £2,600
The Play Service organised this day on 25th August and despite the weather over 200 children
attended. The funds paid for the equipment hired for the day.
Youth Leadership programme
Provider: DreamArts; Cost: £3,620
From November for 10 weeks DreamArts will develop attendees at their drama workshops to
become leaders. They will then have the chance to lead workshops, teach dance routines and give
vocal training to their peers.
Young men’s outreach project
Provider: Working with Men; Cost £5,322.50
This project works with young men aged 13-25 who are engaged in or at risk of engaging in anti-
social behaviour or criminal activity within the local area. This project has now secured external
funding and will continue for another two years.
Mental Health drop-in project
Provider: St Paul’s Community Centre; Cost £988
The project will be delivered each Monday afternoon (from 2-5pm) for thirteen weeks. The sessions
will include; social networking, raising concerns/problems, shopping for food/preparing afternoon tea
and trips out (theatre, walking).
Eid Party
Provider: Church Street Neighbourhood Centre; Cost £1,860
The party was held for all local residents on 18th September.
Detached youth workers
Provider: Youth Services; Cost £4,675
Over the summer holiday, two detached youth workers were employed in the Church Street area to
work with the young people alongside the implementation of a GDZ (Group Dispersal Zone).
Church Street choir
Provider: Sing London; Cost £1,330
Rehearsals are held weekly at the Penfold Street drop-in centre; for more details contact the Choir

Bengali Women’s Group (meeting space)
Provider: Church Street Library; Cost £705
Funding has paid for the group to meet, weekly, in the community space in Church Street library
until March 2011.
TARA Newsletter
Provider: TARA; Cost £250
The funding has enabled TARA (Tenants and Residents Association - Lisson Green Estate) to
publish the latest edition of their newsletter.
Children’s art competition

Installation of a TV in Greenside Centre
Provider: Linbrooks; Cost; £436.52
A TV was purchased some months ago for use in the centre but is not being as it is not safe to roll it
out when other groups are using the Centre. This funding will provide a lockable wall mounted
cabinet for the TV protecting it.
Christmas party at Greenside Centre
Provider: Vital Regeneration; Cost: £600
A party was held on 11th December and over 100 children and adults from the local area attended.
Funding provided craft activities, games and a buffet lunch for all.
Roof garden equipment for Portman Nursery
Provider: Portman Nursery; Cost: £1,500
Funding provided a picnic house and wood and plants for planters for the children to use.
Christmas street party
Provider: Church Street Neighbourhood Management; Cost: £1,091.25
Funding provided a Santa’s grotto and entertainment for the event on 3rd December 2010.
Christmas party for Fourth Feathers
Provider: Fourth Feathers; Cost: £400
The funding provided staff, refreshments and awards for a party for all users of the youth club.
Pantomime trip for Gateway School
Provider: DreamArts/Cockpit Theatre; Cost: £1,500
150 children saw a new version of the classic A Christmas Carol at the Cockpit Theatre. The
children also took part in a workshop with the actors after the performance.
Hanging baskets – Church Street and Lilestone Street
Provider: Church Street Neighbourhood Management; Cost: £1,703.75
Baskets will be installed until the end of May 2011 along both Church Street and Lilestone Street.

Harrow Road
Contribution to Interfaith Event on 24th July 2010
Provider: Queen’s Park Muslim Council; Contribution: £500
Event took place on the 24th July at Queen’s Park Primary School and included a multi-cultural food
festival and entertainment.
Dog socialisation classes
Provider: Canine Culture; Contribution: £3,000
A programme of dog socialisation classes started in October 2010, offering local dog owners free
training to improve common problems with dog behaviour such as incessant barking or aggressive
behaviour. Provider will also work closely with local Safer Neighbourhood Team to identify problem
owners who would benefit from one-to-one advice. Further classes are planned throughout 2011, at

Advice Plus at the Beethoven Centre
Provider: A2Dominion; Contribution: £3,250
Advice Plus session operate on a weekly basis at the Beethoven Centre on a Monday afternoon.
These provide a one-stop shop for residents with a range of concerns such as housing and money
matters, as well as offering a translation service in Arabic and Bengali. During the period July –
September 2010, 582 local residents from Queen’s Park and Harrow Road attended the Advice
Plus sessions, with 79 residents benefitting from the advice and translation service.
Financial capability Workshops
Provider: A2Dominion; Cost £1,850
A series of financial awareness workshops will be delivered for local residents, covering key issues
such as budgeting, debt advice, and income maximisation. The first session was delivered just
before Christmas, with more sessions planned throughout 2011.
Contribution to weekly outings group for people with mental health problems
Provider: Westminster MIND; Contribution: £1,500
Funding has been allocated to support a weekly outings group each Monday from September 2010.
The outings group aims to tackle social isolation amongst residents with mental health problems,
and also supports their carers. 8 drips were delivered between September and November 2010,
with on average, 11 people attending each trip. Further group outings are planned during 2011.
Environment Project
Provider: Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership; Cost: £4,400
This project aims to provide resources and support to interested residents, to allow them to take an
active role in improving their local environment. So far, residents have formed two sub-committees,
focusing on waste and greening. The waste management sub-group has organised a local 'Clean
Up Day', to take place in the spring, and run a youth competition to create a logo for the 'Clean Up
Maida Hill' campaign. The gardening group have conducted five planting sessions around the ward,
ordered a range of large 'public space' planters and secured donations of plants, seeds and trees
from both Veolia and a local nursery. More planting is planned for the spring and a gardening
'toolbank' has been established for this purpose.
Contribution to the North Paddington Timebank
Provider: Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership; Cost: £1,575.56
The North Paddington Timebank which covers Harrow Road, Queen’s Park and Westbourne, was
established in 2009, and funds have been allocated this year to support its growth. The principles
of time-banking are that someone volunteers their time to support a neighbour and receives credits
in return. These credits can be redeemed for any need the volunteer themselves may have. There
are currently 138 members signed up to the scheme, and over 1,500 hours have so far been
exchanged.
Christmas Tree and Lights
Provider: Abraxus; Cost: £4,774.60
A 22ft Christmas tree and lights were installed on the Maida Hill Piazza from December 2010
through to the 6th January 2011. Star lights were also purchased and installed in the street tree
outside the RBS building and will be available for use for the next 3 years. The lights were switched
on during the Christmas fair on Saturday 4th December 2010.
Printing of Christmas Magazine
Provider: Pitney Bowes; Cost: £200
Funding allocated to cover the cost of printing 185 copies of the Ernest Higgins House Christmas
Magazine in December 2010.
WECH Community Event
Provider: Walterton and Elgin Community Homes; Contribution: £2,500
A community event is planned for May 2011. Local residents of Walterton and Elgin Community
Homes will be involved in planning and organising the event. Walterton and Elgin Community
Homes will match the funding contribution of the ward budget.
Fernhead Rovers Community Challenge Event
Provider: WECH via Fernhead Rovers; Cost: £800
Funding has been allocated to enable Fernhead Rovers to deliver the second 1 day community
challenge event in March 2011, which will see groups of young people compete against each other
in 5 a-side football tournament.
All Sing! Harrow Road Community Choir
Provider: Harrow Road Community Choir (Charity); Cost: £4,023
Funding has been allocated to the choir to support its development over the next 6 months, from
January – summer 2011. The choir was originally established with ward budget funding back in
2009, and has been extremely successful, attracting an average group of 40 local residents to each
weekly rehearsal at the Paddington Academy as well as performing a number of concerts. The new
funding committed has already helped leverage additional external funding for the choir.
Complimentary Therapies for over-65s across Harrow Road, Queen’s Park and Westbourne
Provider: Munro Health Co-operative; Contribution: £2,695
Due to the popularity of this service offered in previous years, a further programme of
complimentary therapies (including reflexology, massage and acupuncture) will run from the end of
January through to September 2011. Half hour sessions will be available to residents over the age
of 65 across Harrow Road, Queen’s Park and Westbourne each week at the Neighbourhood

Hyde Park
Purchase of Cycle kit for 4 members of the local Police Team
Provider: Police; Cost £1,000
Local police team have requested new cycle kit to support their police work, and enable officers to
use cycles more regularly to get around the ward quickly and help tackle crime.
Establishment of a Saturday Dad’s group at Micky star Children’s Centre
Provider: London Early Year’s Foundation; Cost: £900
Group sessions will be delivered on the last Saturday of every month, commencing on the 29th
January 2011. Micky Star predominantly works with children aged 0-5, and these session are seen
as an ideal way of encouraging fathers to be involved in the development of their children from an
early age.
Purchase of a mobile fingerprint reader for the local Police Team
Provider: Police; Cost £2,530.80
The device will assist the police in identifying persons in low level crime and disorder where time
consuming trips to the police station could be avoided. It will help keep the police on the streets
longer. The device will be particularly useful in identifying persons involved in aggressive begging,
street prostitution and kerb crawling – all activities which Hyde Park residents have highlighted as a
key concern in the ward. The device should be delivered and in use from February/March 2011.
Installation of informal play equipment in Norfolk square
Provider: Westminster Parks; Cost £5,346.22
The proportion of young children in the Hyde Park ward is growing faster than any other area of
Westminster. In light of this, and concerns raised by local residents that there is a lack of facilities
for young children in the area, councillors are funding the installation of interactive play panels and
seating in the east end of Norfolk Square gardens.
Councillors are also planning to allocate funding for additional police patrols to help tackle
prostitution in the area, additional warden patrols of the Edgware Road to improve compliance with
licensing and planning laws, and support for the mother and toddler group at St John’s Hyde Park
Church.

Knightsbridge & Belgravia
Ward Members are in discussion with Council Officers to review traffic congestion management in
both South Belgravia and Knightsbridge. Consultation is ongoing with both the Belgravia Residents

Lancaster Gate
Hanging baskets on Craven Terrace
Provider: Parks team; Cost: £1,923.24
Baskets were installed in June 2010 and will be replaced again in the spring/summer of 2011.
Hallfield Estate funday
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost: £1,000
Funding provided a marquee and children’s fun fair rides on the day.
Day trips for older people
Provider: WAES; Cost £5,309
Funding has been provided for three trips for local older people. The first was held on 5 October and
was to Bletchley Park; over the coming weeks the other two trips will be run. For more information

Lunch clubs for older people
Provider: WAES; Cost: £6,532
Fortnightly lunch clubs are held on a Thursday, for the over 70’s, in Pickering Hall on the Hallfield
Estate. These clubs will not be running over the winter months and will start again in March; for

Art classes for older people
Provider: WAES; Cost £1,000.50
Weekly art classes ran held on a Tuesday in Pickering Hall on the Hallfield Estate, from October to
December.
Additional policing
Provider: Metropolitan Police; Cost: £11,526.98
Additional patrols were made on Friday and Saturday nights from August, between 7pm and 2am
and from October on Friday nights only. These additional patrols ended at the beginning of January
2011.
Older people’s day trip
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost: £1,760
A trip to Runnymede was held on 13th July, 50 local residents participated.
Social club for older people
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost: £2,239
This club was launched on 4 November and meets regularly at Pickering Hall on the Hallfield

Summer youth programme
Provider: Youth Services/Westminster Sports Unit; Cost: £6,02.51
Throughout the summer holidays young people from the area were able to participate in horse
riding, swimming, an Olympic sports taster week and a visit to HMS Westminster, in Portsmouth.
Christmas lights
Provider: Piggotts; Cost: £3,276.55
Festive lights were hung from lamp columns on Queensway and were switched on by James Mates,
the ITN newsreader (and local resident) on Monday 29 November 2010.
Supported housing lunches
Provider: Housing with Care team; Cost: £1,400
Funding has enabled the weekly lunches for people in supported housing to continue until March
2011.
Ski & snow boarding instructors course
Provider: Snow Camp; Cost: £750
Funding has been provided for five young people to take part in an instructors course which will
enable them to teach ski-ing or snowboarding in the UK and Europe. The Councillors funded 50% of
the course fees and the young people have been fundraising the other 50% themselves.
Events on Hallfield Estate
Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost £500
Funds were used to hire a marquee for the Ping in the Dark competition and for the photography
competition and Good Neighbours awards.

Little Venice
Second Weekly Recycling Scheme for Eligible Streets
Provider: Recycling Service, Total funding: £30,798
This project funds additional doorstep recycling collections across the ward, continuing from the
project started previously. Following feedback from last year, the second collection day was
changed from Saturday to Friday.
Cricket Sessions at Little Venice Sports Centre
Provider: Street Management, Total funding: £1,583.56
The ward budget is funding the cost of hall hire at the Little Venice Sports Centre to allow the Safer
Neighbourhood Team to run Cricket Sessions for young people. The project was initially funded
until December 2010 but has been extended to 31 March 2011.
Festive Lights in Clifton Road
Provider: Abraxus, Total funding: £1,690.60
The 16 warm white star-shaped lights from 2009 were re-installed in two trees outside Tesco on
Clifton Road, near the junction with Randolph Avenue.

Maida Vale
Installation of Hanging Baskets
Provider: Parks, Total funding: £15,472.80
The ward budget has funded the installation of hanging baskets at locations throughout the ward, to
be planted twice in the year. In June 2010, 126 baskets were installed.
Festive Lights on Elgin Avenue
Provider: Abraxus , Total funding: £2,226.60
Funding was used to purchase 8 warm white star-shaped lights that were installed in a tree located
opposite Maida Vale tube station on Elgin Parade. A switch-on event was held with children from
the local schools singing carols. The lights were switched on by local resident, Leslie Phillips.
Contribution to the Neighbourcare Christmas Day lunch for Older Residents
Provider: Neighbourcare; Contribution: £697.92

Marylebone High Street
Installation of Hanging Baskets

The ward budget has funded the installation of hanging baskets at locations throughout the ward, to
be planted twice in the year. In May 2010, 316 baskets were installed.

Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park Dog Show on 24th July 2010
Provider: Crissie Chambers; Cost: £550
The third annual Queen’s Park dog show took place on the 24th July 2010. Approximately 30 local
dog owners participated with their dogs (with over 100 people watching), with prizes given for
various categories including, Best in Show and best Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Contribution to Queen’s Park Summer Festival
Provider: Queen’s Park Neighbourhood Forum (PDT); Contribution: £1,000
Event took place on the 7th August 2010 in Queen’s Park Gardens on Ilbert Street. The event was
very well attended by approximately 2,000 local residents.

The event took place on 4th September from the Half Penny Steps to the Flora Pub from 11am to
2pm. A range of activities took place, including live music, street artists, window clean ups and a
range of information stalls on the history of the terrace, the low carbon zone and the Malling Health
Centre. Approximately 150-200 people attended the event throughout the day.

The photo-frame will be used to show-case sporting achievements of young people at the Moberly

Contribution to Young Men’s Outreach Project
Provider: Working with Men; Contribution: £4,780
This project works with young men aged 13-25 who are engaged in, or at risk of, engaging in anti-
social behaviour or criminal activity within the Queen’s Park ward. The aim of the project is to
identify young men in the target group through street work and to encourage them to engage with
the worker to make steps to change their lives by returning to training or securing employment. The
ward budget contribution supported the project for a limited period only, up to the end of December
2010, to allow the provider additional time to secure sustainable funding. Additional funding has
now been secured to support the project from January 2011 for a further 2 years.
Contribution to Fireworks Display
Provider: Queen’s Park Neighbourhood Forum (PDT); Contribution: £1,000
Contribution to wider cost of local fireworks display held on the 5th November 2010 in Queen’s Park
Gardens. Whilst unfortunately the poor weather on the evening of the display meant it was unsafe
to go ahead, an agreement is in place to ensure the event goes ahead next year free of charge.
Contribution to Avenues FM month-long broadcast in February 2011
Provider: Avenues Youth Club; Contribution: £4,000
Contribution to support the youth club to ensure they can continue to run their annual, month-long
radio broadcast throughout February 2011. The broadcast will cover local topical issues, and
teaches young people skills in broadcasting, presenting and debating.
Theatre workshop on gang culture and knife crime at Avenues Youth Club
Provider: Solomon Theatre Company; Contribution: £500
Workshop took place on the evening of the 3rd December at the Avenues Youth Club. There was
an hour long performance by the theatre company, followed by interactive workshops with the
young people attending – exploring the key themes of gang culture and knife crime.
Tree planting along south end of Bravington and Portnal Road
Provider: Westminster Tree Team; Contribution: £1,200
A consultation was undertaken with local residents of Bravington and Portnal Roads in November
2010, about possible tree planting along the south end of the roads which had limited greenery.
Overall feedback to the consultation was very positive, particularly along Bravington Road, and as a
result 4 new Pear Trees were planted on the 2nd December to coincide with National Tree Week.
The councillors have also secured matchfunding from Westminster Tree Trust to enable additional
planting on Portnal Road later in 2011.
Complimentary Therapies for over-65s across Queen’s Park, Harrow Road and Westbourne
Provider: Munro Health Co-operative; Contribution: £2,695
Due to the popularity of this service offered in previous years, a further programme of
complimentary therapies (including reflexology, massage and acupuncture) will run from the end of
January through to September 2011. Half hour sessions will be available to residents over the age
of 65 across Queen’s Park, Harrow Road and Westbourne each week at Juniper House. For more

Christmas Lights on St John’s Wood High Street

Lights were installed along the High Street at the end of November 2010 through to 6th January
2011. The lights were officially switched on by Danielle Lineker and her husband Gary, during the
Christmas Fair on the 28th November. The Fair was supported by a number of local businesses
along the High Street, as well as in the local area, and over £2,000 was raised on the day for the St
John’s Wood Hospice.
Monthly book club at St John’s Wood Library

Christmas Pantomime trip for 180 pupils of Barrow Hill Junior School
Provider: DreamArts; Cost: £1,800
180 pupils from Barrow Hill Junior School attended a modern production of A Christmas Carol at the
Cockpit Theatre on the 15th December 2010. Following the hour and a half long performance, the
children took part in interactive workshops with the actors. Two performances were held throughout
the day to cater for all the children.
Contribution towards Neighbourcare Christmas Day lunch for the Elderly
Provider: Neighbourcare; Contribution: £700
The Christmas Day lunch was held at the Danubius Hotel from 12 – 2.30pm. 101 local people
enjoyed a 3 course lunch, along with entertainment and a small gift. Transport was also provided to
assist those with limited mobility to get to and from the event comfortably. Over 50% of those
attending were from St John’s Wood.

St James's
Active Ageing
Provider: Jubilee Halls Trust, Total funding: £5,710
The ward budget will fund exercise activities such as line dancing and salsa dancing for residents
aged over 50. Five classes per week will be held from November 2010 to April 2011. To join a

Proactive Noise Officer
Provider: Street Management, Total funding: £22,866.48
Ward budget funding has been used to employ a Proactive Noise Officer for six months, from
November 2010 to April 2011. The officer will actively tackle noise issues before they become a
problem for residents and facilitate the resolution of service requests requiring proactive action.
Christmas Lunch for Older People
Provider: The Abbey Centre, Total funding: £3,990
The ward budget funded a Christmas Lunch with entertainment for older people in the SW1 area.
The lunch took place on 11 December 2010 and was attended by 117 people.
DreamArts Saturday
Provider: DreamArts, Total funding: £3,313
DreamArts work with young people living in severely deprived areas of South Westminster and are
using the ward budget to fund a 6-month Arts Leadership programme to empower young people to

Buckingham Gate Gardens

The ward budget will fund the purchase of plants for Buckingham Gate Gardens and planting will

Thorney Island Archives
Provider: The Thorney Island Society, Total funding: £5,182
The Thorney Island Society will use the ward budget to employ an archivist to catalogue the
considerable archive relating to the local area that has been collected by the society. The funding
will also contribute towards the running costs of the neighbourhood resource centre, archive and
shop at 10 Old Pye Street.

Dr Bike sessions

Monthly sessions are held in the local area to discuss bike maintenance and safety and to security
mark cycles if required.
Christmas lights and tree

A Christmas tree was placed at the junction of Moreton Street and Lupus Street and lights were
installed in an existing tree at the end of Moreton Terrace. There was a switch on ceremony and
late night shopping event, organised in conjunction with the retailers on Moreton Street, on

A Christmas tree was installed on Tachbrook Market at the junction with Warwick Way and festive
lights were from columns along Warwick Way. A switch on ceremony was held on Friday 3rd
December, when Cllr Robert Davis switched on the lights and the children from St Peter’s Eaton
Square School led the carol singing.
Pantomime trip for Abbots Manor Nursery

The nursery school is took 34 children and their parents to see a performance of ‘Hold on Mr
Rabbit’ at the end of January 2011.
Pantomime trip for St Peter’s Eaton Square School

80 children saw a new version of the classic A Christmas Carol at the Cockpit Theatre. The children
also took part in a workshop with the actors after the performance.
Older People’s Advocacy

Advocacy Plus provided free independent advocacy support both in the client’s own homes and
from their offices in Dean Street for three months from October 2010.
Christmas lunches

Holy Apostles held a Christmas lunch during December and St Gabriels passed their funding onto
the St Margaret’s drop-in centre who also held a lunch for their users before Christmas. The lunch
at Glastonbury House was attended by 40 residents.

Westbourne
Club Xpress – Half term Holiday Camp
Provider: Westbourne Park Family Centre; Cost: £5,080
Funding supports the delivery of two, three-day holiday clubs taking place during October 2010 half
term and February 2011 half term for children aged 5-13. During the October half term club, 35
different children from the Westbourne ward attended the club (with an average of 30 on each day).
Contribution to weekly outings group for people with mental health problems
Provider: Westminster MIND; Contribution: £1,500
Funding has been allocated to support a weekly outings group each Monday from September 2010.
The outings group aims to tackle social isolation amongst residents with mental health problems,
and also supports their carers. 8 drips were delivered between September and November 2010,
with on average, 11 people attending each trip. Further group outings are planned during 2011.
Contribution to the North Paddington Timebank
Provider: Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership; Cost: £1,575.56
The North Paddington Timebank which covers Harrow Road, Queen’s Park and Westbourne, was
established in 2009, and funds have been allocated this year to support its growth. The principles
of time-banking are that someone volunteers their time to support a neighbour and receives credits
in return. These credits can be redeemed for any need the volunteer themselves may have. There
are currently 138 members signed up to the scheme, and over 1,500 hours have so far been
exchanged.
Environment project at the Meanwhile Gardens Play Hut
Provider: Meanwhile Gardens Playhut; Cost: £6,414
Funding will support a gardening project at Meanwhile Gardens twice a week for 6 months from
April 2011. Parents and children (up to the age of 6) will be encouraged to learn about food growing
and healthy eating through a range of growing, tasting and art activities.
Community Cycling Project
Provider: Kyu-Yo-Bu-Shin; Cost: £1,560
Funding allocated to continue weekly cycling sessions from 1st November through to the end of
March 2011. The project aims to give children more confidence in cycling in different locations.
Book Project through Westbourne Children’s Centre
Provider: Junior League of London; Contribution: £3,000
Funding will support the distribution of a new book each month for 2 years to 60 young children
within the ward to encourage learning. Children will be identified through the Westbourne Children’s
Centre.
Amberely Youth Club
Provider: Working with Men; Contribution: £4,820
Funds will support the hire of a gym instructor for 4 hours each week to assist young people in
making best use of the newly refurbished gym. A new air conditioning unit will also be installed to
improve the gym environment.
St Mary Magdalene Event
Westbourne Neighbourhood Forum; Cost: £3,025
The event took place in November 2010, with the aim of promoting St Mary Magdalene’s Church for
community use. The event was also designed to seek local community views on how best to make
use of the space.
Christmas and Eid Party
Westbourne Neighbourhood Forum; Cost: £570
The Westbourne Forum invited local residents to a Christmas and Eid Party in December 2010 to
thank people for their support throughout the year. The event will consist of a combination of
seasonal snacks, music and activities for children, which will help bring people together from the
area who might otherwise not meet each other.
International Day 2011
Westbourne Neighbourhood Forum; Cost: £5,604.18
Westbourne’s fourth International day event is planned for March 2011, at the Stowe Centre. The
event will celebrate the various foods, culture, music and dance of the local communities which
make up the wider Westbourne Community. The event will also promote volunteering opportunities
to those attending.
Theatre workshop on gang culture and knife crime at Westminster Academy
Provider: Solomon Theatre Company; Contribution: £537.50
A theatre workshop, covering issues of gang culture and knife crime, is planned to take place on the
31st March 2011 at the Westminster Academy. The hour long performance is targeted at the year
10 age group, and will be followed by interactive workshops with the actors.
Gardening Project
Westminster Academy; Cost: £3,350
Last year the Westminster Academy started developing an unused plot of land on their grounds in
to a garden area with shrubs and plants, teaching pupils practical gardening skills. The Academy
are keen to develop the project further this year. Funding has been allocated to support the
installation of secure fencing around the site, to protect the expansion of the garden to allow food
growing and wildlife development. Funding will also be used for new tools and seeds.
Youth Voice – Stowe Youth Club Project
Provider: PDT - Stowe Youth Club; Contribution: £1,335
The project is due to start in April 2011 with a 3 hour session delivered each week for 10 weeks at
the Stowe Youth club. The project will give young people a forum to debate their views/concerns on
a range of issues including knife crime, gangs, relationships with the police, employment, media etc.
Each session will be in the form of a work-shop on a specific topic delivered either by a guest
speaker or by youth workers.

West End
Soho Business Crime Reduction Partnership Radio Handsets
Provider: The Metropolitan Police, Total funding: £ 9,856
This new network allows direct communication between local police officers, Westminster City
Council officers and local Soho businesses. Ward budget funding was used to purchase 32 radio
handsets in addition to those purchased using other funding streams.
Companionship Plus
Provider: Soho Caring Agencies Forum, Total funding: £6,700
The ward budget is funding a companionship programme to encourage participation among groups
of older residents who do not usually attend social events. The project will work with residents aged
over 50 and other isolated or vulnerable residents in the ward. Events such as scrabble evenings, a
cheese and wine party, a trip to the seaside and a summer barbeque will be held.
Soho Caring Agencies Forum Administrator
Provider: Soho Caring Agencies Forum, Total funding: £1,852
The Soho Caring Agencies Forum has also been funding for a part-time administrator to support
Forum meetings over the year January to December 2011.
West End Community Network
Provider: The West End Community Network, Total funding: £5,000
The ward budget will fund a project co-ordinator for 6 months between January and June 2011 to
co-ordinate the work of the amenity societies which represent residents and local businesses in the
ward. Regular meetings will be co-ordinated and lobbying activity and responses to consultations
will be undertaken.
Soho Festival Children’s Entertainment
Provider: The Soho Society, Total funding: £499
The ward budget contributed to the cost of providing the children’s entertainment at the Soho
Festival on 18 July 2010. The entertainment included a spaghetti eating competition, a parrot
painting competition, music, singing and magic tricks.
Hanging Basket Brackets for Soho
Provider: The Meard and Dean Street Association, Total funding: £3,060
Funding was used to pay for hanging basket brackets in selected streets in Soho. The cost of the
hanging baskets themselves was funded via the City Council’s sponsorship scheme.
Complementary Therapies for Older People
Provider: The Munro Health Cooperative, Total funding: £4,655
The ward budget is funding a programme of complementary therapies for people aged over 60 and
who are in receipt of state benefits or on a low income. The sessions will be held from November

Trip to Highclere Castle
Provider: Soho Primary School, Total funding: £781.50
Children from years 3 and 4 at Soho Parish Primary school will undertake a trip to the Tutankhamen
exhibition at Highclere Castle in July 2011, to bring to life the work they have done in the classroom
with their project on Ancient Egypt.
Soho Community Centre Trust Minibus
Provider: Soho Community Centre Trust, Total funding: £1,955.55
The Soho Community Centre Trust has been awarded funding which will cover one years' costs of
keeping their minibus on the road, plus a contribution towards petrol costs. The minibus is used for
day trips, short break holidays and transport to hospital.
