Alex Kurosawa is a 30-years veteran in international strategic partnerships, sales,
marketing, start-ups, operations and investments. He has been successful at NASDAQ and
private companies for sales, marketing, business development, and investment. His career
objective is to be a part of new business which scales and makes a sizable impact.
2011~ Managing Member, TBL Partners, LLC, San Jose
He co-founded the Company with focus on triple bottom line-profit, people and planet. The Company has been actively
evaluating opportunities in the space of innovation in agriculture and aquaculture, sustained environment, grid
technologies and flexible energy integration, so as to address global issues; chronic food shortage, clean development, and
energy demand-supply imbalance.
2000~2011 General Partner and Co-Founder, Start-up101 Ventures I/II, Cupertino
Alex organized and syndicated an early stage venture fund with focus on multimedia, Internet, communication and
semiconductor. While conducting due diligence and structuring deals, he developed a 15-company portfolio, and assisted
those portfolio companies to generate revenues by introducing customers. One of the exits generated 6 x returns in 2007 in
three years from inception. He has been often a panelist for a venture conference, such as Golden Capital Network and
International Business Forum.
1999~Present: CEO, President and Co-Founder, Start-up101, Inc., Cupertino
The company provides venture capital services and strategic consulting to develop markets and sales channels for newly
developed intellectual properties and high technology products. Clients included Japanese companies whose revenues
range from $1B to $25B and start-ups located in the US. He used a highly structured market entry approach in various
markets such as multimedia, ecommerce, digital cinema, ECM, document management, flexible displays, medical devices,
highly functional materials, cleantech and technology projects for agriculture and aquaculture.
1997~1999: Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Sonics, Inc., Mountain View
He formed this start-up company with ex-MicroUnity colleagues and took responsibility in developing business. He
conducted strategic marketing to introduce new software products into customers’ engineering environments. He closed
the first major deal with multiple divisions of NEC Corporation, and developed a pipeline of more than a dozen major
prospects for continued revenue growth. These results served as credentials and played a key role in successfully raising
funds for the second round financing. In 2010, their licensee shipment has exceeded 1 billion units.
1996~1997: Vice President, Business Development, MicroUnity, Inc., Sunnyvale
As the first Vice President in charge of cable modem product sales, he conducted sales and marketing activities with
end-customers, strategic partners and vendors. He developed strategies and presentations for each category of accounts.
He helped the company refocusing from a product business to a license business. Along with the down-sizing of the
company, Alex spun out with a few people and formed Sonics, Inc.
1993~1996: CEO/Founder, IKOS Systems Asia, K.K., and Executive, Cupertino HQ (NSDQ: IKOS)
Upon the introduction of a new super-computer product (Serial #1) in Japan, he established a Tokyo-based subsidiary to
head up sales operations in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. He developed organizations for sales, marketing and technical
support, and signed up distributors in each country. He engaged most of the key accounts in the region. Revenues doubled
year by year and reached $4M in three years. He exceeded a sales quota every year.

1989~1992: Manager, VLSI Technology, Inc. (NSDQ: VLSI), San Jose
He managed the newly formed joint venture between Hitachi and VLSI being chartered in product development
and marketing. His paper about the industry's first scalable* sub-micron ASIC businesses was widely reported.
Later, he was in charge of HDTV project in developing strategic alliances with Japan and US based companies.
1980-1988: Manager, NEC Corporation, Kawasaki, Semiconductor Division (FTSE: 6701q.l)
He was chartered with strategic partnerships with Silicon Valley based start-ups in evaluating technologies. In launching a
system LSI business for PC and consumer markets, he played a key role in shortening the product design time to 1/143 of
what the traditional system required. His engineering team developed LSI products for video processing, audio processing
and electronic games.
