people want to use things that have less side effects and adverse reactions to treat their health issues. Many
of the mainstream medicines may start out to help a person. But in the end this same drugs creates more
problems for us. They break down body functions and body parts other than the ones treated because of all
side effects and adverse reactions associated with many of the drugs both over the counter and by
prescription.

Here are two examples of Popular natural and Alternative methods people are employing today. They use
these to deal with their chronic aches and pains as well as health issues.

Mind-Body Therapies

In these type of therapies the mind is stimulated through various methods to control the various body
functions including controlling pain. This category includes therapeutic treatments using relaxation
techniques, meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback and hypnosis.
In terms of pain the patient is trained with tools to control their mind and direct it in episodes of pain as well
as chronic pain they experience.

Acupuncture
Today this form of treatment which is connected to Chinese Traditional Medicine is getting both recognition
and approval from conventional aspects of the Medical World. The World Health Organization recognizes
over 30 diseases or conditions that have been documented as helped with the treatment of acupuncture. One
of the main reasons however people turn to acupuncture is to help alleviate chronic pain.
Acupuncture is based on the ancient Chinese idea that all illness stems from bodily imbalance. The basis of
the imbalance is believed to be caused by blockage. The blockage is Qi (or life force) that becomes
congested in various body systems. When it does not flow freely we have body problems. When certain
body points called meridians are stimulated, they release the blocked energy and we start to have healthy
flow again. The meridians are stimulated by placing fine needles in various points along the meridian lines
in order to facilitate the healthy flow of Qi.

In terms of pain relief the needles release endorphins when placed in certain areas to create pain relief.
Endorphins are the body's natural chemical that reacts as a pain reliever. Acupuncture may be used alone or
as part of a comprehensive health regimen. Many Traditional Chinese doctors use acupuncture, herbs and
diet in combination for healing.
