Conference
(organised by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management)

APEC Women Leaders Network                   (co-organised by BPW Thailand and
Thai Government). The outcome of this meeting will become the input for APEC’s

                            Rita Harvey President of BPW Darwin
Position:
   Executive Director, Corporate Management Group, Department of Business, Industry & Resource
   Development
Responsibilities:
   I am responsible for the department’s corporate functions including Finance and Budgets, Human
   Resource Management, Accommodation, Asset Management, Legal & Legislative Services,
   Communications and Marketing, Information Management, Strategic Planning, Corporate
   Governance and General Services.
Career Challenges:
   Making organisations aware that they will benefit from having more women in senior roles and
   seeing this bear fruit – there are more talented women contributing to strategy setting now but we
   need more!
Hobbies/Interests:
   Fishing, reading, music, films. I have been involved in professional and community groups for many
   years.
First Heard About BPW:
    Through Deborah Kneebone, who urged me to attend. I joined soon after.
Been a BPW Member For:          1 and a half years
Networking in Darwin Is:        Fun, there is such diversity and lots of talent.
What’s the Most Exhilarating Thing you’ve ever Done?:
  I used to like driving very fast on the open road and (back when it was legal and I was slim) riding
  motor bikes without a helmet and wearing only a bikini.
Name 4 People You’d like to have Dinner with:
  Albert Einstein (Physicist: Theory of Relativity), Stephen Hawking, (Physicist), Katherine Hepburn
  (Actress) and William Shakespeare (Literary Genius). Only Hawking is still alive, what does that say
  about me?
What One Thing would I like to Improve about Myself?:
  Get fit and lose weight.
What would you do if you Won a Million Dollars?:          Invest it so it becomes $10 million!
Personal Achievements:
   First NT Public Sector Woman of the Year
   AIM (Q & NT) Management Excellence Award
   First Female Regional Commissioner for the Australian Securities Commission
   First Female President of the NT Branch of the Australian Society of CPAs
   Established the Darwin Office of the Australian Society of CPAs
   7 promotions over 6 years within the Public Sector, moving from middle to senior management roles

opportunity to contribute your expertise and a small amount of time for progressing
issues that affect business & professional women. All roles are up for renewal at
our forthcoming AGM on 23 July.
