                   Lesson Plans for Week of January 23, 2012



Monday, January 23, 2012

CCSS: 6RI 4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a
text, including figurative, connotative, and technical language.

CCSS 6W1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant
evidence.

Student Centered Objective: Students will complete persuasive essays, read
novel, and complete Chapter 6 vocabulary.

Bellringer: Students will complete the Monday section of the Bellringer packet.

Anticipatory Set: Guest authors will share essays.

Whole Group: Teacher will lead discussion of figurative language, adages. SW
view a list of adages on the promethean board. SW select an adage and write two
sentences explaining how they think the adage came about.

Literary Circles: SW read in groups and discuss Chapter 6 of A Wrinkle in Time.

Independent Practice: Students will complete Chapter 6 vocabulary sheet.

Assessment: Teacher observation of group interaction. Vocabulary sheet.
Sentences written about adages.

Homework: Study for MPT tomorrow. Monday reading passage and questions
from homework packet.

CCSS 6W1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant
evidence.
Student Centered Objective: Students will take mixed practice test. Students will continue
reading “A Wrinkle in Time” classroom novel.

Bellringer: Due to testing, we will not have a bellringer today.

Anticipatory Set: TW remind students of test taking strategies and correct bubbling procedure
for scantrons.

Whole Group: Students will take mixed practice test. Once completed, students will read
quietly from A Wrinkle in Time.

Assessment: Mixed Practice test.

Closure: Teacher will ask students to summarize what they have read today.

Homework: Tuesday section of the Homework packet. Read Chapter 6 in A Wrinkle in Time

CCSS 6W1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant
evidence.
Student Centered Objective: Students will continue flip book for figurative language adding
personification and adage.

Bellringer: Wednesday section of bellringer packet.

Anticipatory Set: Student will view Brainpop video on personification.

Whole Group: Teacher will discuss personification. Teacher will also give instruction for adding
new information to the flip book to assist in learning figurative language.

Independent Practice: Students will complete an activity on personification.

Whole Group: Teacher will review vocabulary words for Chapter 6.

Independent Practice: Students will complete the Chapter 6 vocabulary test for a Wrinkle in
Time.
Literary Circles: Students will read “A Wrinkle in Time”, completing Chapter 6 for 15 minutes.
Students will then discuss what they have read for homework and the part read in class today

Assessment: Teacher will observe students working together in groups. Teacher will review
study guide and flip book.

Closure: Teacher will ask students to summarize what they have read today.

Homework: Complete the Wednesday section of the homework packet.

Thursday, January 26, 2012
CCSS: 6RI 4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including
figurative, connotative, and technical language.

CCSS 6W1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Student Centered Objective: . Students will continue reading A Wrinkle in Time Chapter 6 or
7.

Bellringer: Thursday section of bellringer packet.

Anticipatory Set: Student will view USA Test Prep video on assonance.

Whole Group: Teacher will discuss assonance.

Independent Practice: Students will complete a sentence demonstating their understanding of
assonance by constructing sentence.

Whole Group: Teacher will review vocabulary words for Chapter 7 A Wrinkle in Time

Independent Practice: Students will complete vocabulary for Chapter 7 novel.

Literary Circles: Students will read “A Wrinkle in Time”, Chapter 6 or 7 for 15 minutes.
Students will then discuss what they have read in a conversation style forum.

Assessment: Teacher will observe students working together in groups. Teacher will review
vocabulary worksheet. Assonance sentence.

Closure: Teacher will ask students to summarize what they have read today.

Homework: Thursday section of Homework packet and make sure journal is complete for
tomorrow.

Friday, January 27, 2012
CCSS: 6RI 4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including
figurative, connotative, and technical language.

CCSS 6W1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Student Centered Objective: SW learn about alliteration by watching a video and writing their
own sentences using alliteration. SW write a limerick and compare it with the haiku written in
Science class. Students will continue reading in A Wrinkle In Time novel.

Bellringer: Friday section of bellringer packet.

Anticipatory Set: Students will view video on limerick and haiku. Teacher will ask them to
share Disney Planet Challenge and how it is ironic that the frog is the mascot and how the frog
is also what they are assigned.

Whole Group: Teacher will discuss limericks and haikus.

Whole Group: Teacher will review vocabulary words for Chapter 6.

TW discuss alliteration.

Independent Practice:

SW watch a video on alliteration. SW listen to discussion of limericks. SW participate in
student led discussion of the differences between a limerick and a haiku.

Students will begin writing a limerick that accompanies the Disney Planet Challenge unit.

Literary Circles: Students will read “A Wrinkle in Time”, Chapter 6 or 7 for 15 minutes.
Students will then discuss what they have read in a conversation style forum.

Independent Practice or Small groups: Students will work on Wrinkle vocabulary and study
guide, completing any unfinished sections.

Assessment: Teacher will observe students working together in groups. TW check limerick and
alliteration activity.

Closure: Teacher will ask students to summarize what they have read today.
