Newburgh Free Academy Compact Committee Minutes

Attendance: Admin: Susan Valentino Parents: Sylvia Santiago
-Possibly 3 snow days left. No determination for usage until May.
-Executive Principal interviews have been held. Hoping for final result next month.
-Almost mid 3rd Quarter, progress reports to go out in 2 weeks.
-Budget cuts, none known at this time.
-Pilot Program for Student Portal underway. 500 students participating. The portal mirrors
parents’ where students can view grades & attendance. Students can also monitor unexcused
-Hairspray musical is coming up.
-Dress code: faculty & students are reminded to dress responsibly/professionally.
-School has experienced problem with class tardiness. Currently instituting ideas that seem to be
working. Faculty working to get kids into class on time.
-Midterms: grade was not reflected in 2nd marking period, but will make up 10% of the final
-S. Valentino agreed to look into how the results from the PSAT that sophomores took in the Fall
are being used. Overall the results were not as good as expected.
-Math tutorials are now available Mon-Thurs after school, given by Math teachers. Info included
in announcements, web site & GBTV.
-Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball Teams made it to Sections which start next week.
• Anti-Bullying Campaign commercials are running on GBTV.
• Clubs like SAVY and PRISM promote tolerance and deter violence. Give students
alternative ways to deal with problems.
• Disciplinary consequences are enforced when a student is harassing or bullying another.
• Faculty and staff participated in a Bullying presentation from the Jewish Federation
through the Dignity for All Act.
