A P The Web, Creation Tools and API The site will provide real-time and archival facilities for all art-work to be viewed and a myriad of collaboration and social elements to foster debate and discourse. A standard drawing toolkit, upload facilities and mobile phone applications are provided at launch. The API will see developers creating not only new drawing/creative tools but remixes and reimaginings of the art created for the project. Curated Works Alongside the public submitted work, we will work directly with select artists and organisations throughout the period of installation. P As well as bringing established artists to the public in a new way, working with artists helps set the bar in quality and aesthetic values, helping set the tone for the project early on. James Moores : Art Collector, Philanthropist, Artist A James Moores, heir to the Littlewoods fortune, has dedicated his energies to supporting Art and artists in the United Kingdom and has one of the finest collections of contemporary art in Britain. James will be curating an exhibition of the Deakin Archive across the Bus-Tops canvases for a two week run in 2011. Seeing the canvases as an exhibition space, James will be creating an exhibition viewing schedule made up of display times and the bus routes people can take to view the work. The curatorial process itself will be ‘Crowdsourced' to find those pieces within the Deakin Archive that Londoners would most like to see exhibited. Gary Woods : Contemporary Artist, Photographer A Gary is a celebrated British artist and photographer with work held in collections including The Getty Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. In 2000 he was the BBC Artist in Residence and has exhibited worldwide in Japan, Paris, Nigeria and the UK. As well as working with his existing 'Shadows' series of haunting photography, Gary will be creating new work which explores the human interactions that take place at bus shelters across the city. Limkokwing University : International collaboration A Max heads up the faculty for Creative Multimedia and Broadcasting at Limkokwing University, an international school of 30,000 students across 15 campuses on 3 continents. Max will hold workshops with Limkokwing students in Botswana, Kuala Lumpur and London, producing a body of work created by the students for display on the Bus-Tops canvases. Through this collaboration and others like it we will bring the world to London in celebration of the Olympics and the Get Set arc of the games. P The Art Public Through our development phase we have been actively engaging people with the Bus-Tops concept and seeking ideas for submissions from the art public. We have already had over 50 ideas from people on how they'd like to use the canvas. Supporting Statements BBC Live Screens : Marie Sleigh, Producer London Screens As producer for the big screens in London and behalf of the big screen network, if Bus.Tops content can comply with the BBC Guidelines and would be suitable to be shown on the big screen out in public space, then the screens would be delighted to be part of a project that creatively connects communities nationally, regionally and internationally. TfL and Clearchannel UK: Ivan Bennett, Research and Development Manager, London Buses, infrastructure development TfL London Buses Infrastructure Development in association with their passenger shelter contractor (Clear Channel UK) is pleased to be able to facilitate the ‘Bus Tops’ project proposal assuming suitable funding is secured to ensure the product, its function and maintenance is appropriate, fit for purpose and in accordance with our needs for fixing, weight/ load and distribution, power requirements/ consumption and product detailing in accordance with suggested performance considerations previously outlined. We wish you the best of luck in your project being selected. Hackney Council : Corrina Pyke, Town Centre Co-ordinator Regeneration and planning I am always looking for interesting and engaging ways to work with Hackney residents, and the Bus-Tops project certainly seems to offer that potential. We are very excited about the platform for public creativity, and in it's potential to create a rich source of artistic content that we can use to highlight the immense creativity of the Borough. We wish the project the best of luck in it's bid for the Artists Taking The Lead fund and hope to be working with them and Hackney residents in creating something remarkable. Supporting Statements Channel 4 : Adam Gee, New Media Commissioner As Channel 4's Cross-platform Commissioner I am always looking for innovative and exciting ways to reach audiences that deliver on Channel 4's core values of Do It First; Make Trouble (in the sense of constructively interrogating the status quo); Inspire Change. So it was with delight that I learnt of the Bus-Tops project which is aligned on all three counts. I will keep a close eye on the development of the initiative both as a platform for public creativity and as a rich source of artistic content, looking in particular for opportunities to integrate it with our projects in this area like the 'Big Art Project'. I wholeheartedly congratulate Alfie and Paula, both of whom I've worked with here at Channel 4, on a great idea and wish them all the best with the project. Limkokwing University : Max Schleser, Faculty Head Creative Multimedia and Broadcasting Limkokwing are delighted to work with the Bus-Tops project should it's submission be successful. To celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad Limkokwing students will contribute to the project with a series of workshops with our students then producing artwork as a curated exhibition on the Bus-Tops canvas. Ravensbourne college : Claire Selby, Business development manager Bus-Tops is an amazing project in it's potential to enhance our students learning and expression across a variety of degree, foundation and post-graduate courses. We hope that the project is successful in it's bid for the Artists Taking The Lead fund, and if it is we look forward to working with the project co-ordinators to integrate it within our students syllabuses. Supporting Statements JCDecaux : Sam Bird, Head of Innovation As Head of Innovation and Production at JCDecaux, I am excited by this concept project and happy to work alongside and with you to make it a reality. The Bus-Tops project has so much potential for innovation and expression and I am hopeful that this unique idea will succeed in winning the Artists Taking The Lead fund and so enable you to deliver this from concept to live display. If the Bus-Tops installations comply with JCDecaux/TFL guidelines and are suitable to display image, text and animation based art then JCDecaux would be delighted to collaborate and work together with Bus-Tops, uniting Londoners in a celebration of creativity and collaboration through London's bus network.
