					The Technion’s Vision Statement

A science and technology research
university, among the world's top
ten, dedicated to the creation of
knowledge and the development of
human capital and leadership, for
the advancement of the State of
Israel and all humanity.

Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
           Who Survives?

“It’s not the strongest of the species that
      survives, nor is it the most intelligent;
it is the one that is most adaptable to change!”
                Charles Darwin

Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
          New Faculty Members
 From October 2000 –
182 new faculty members joined the Technion.
 These new faculty members are 35% of
    the total number of faculty.
                         Total: 182 42

The Technion has undergone a transformation
Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
         Quality of Young Faculty –
          A Remarkable Success !
      European-wide competition for 1 Million
                  Euro grants
 10,000 applications – 300 grants (3%) !
       Technion researchers – 7 grants –
                 First in Israel
Second only to University of Cambridge,
                    England
 Israel did exceptionally well with 25 grants

Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
       Constant Change

Academic Units are under constant change
          and transformation

            One example –
the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food
              Engineering

Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
Faculty of Biotechnology & Food Engineering
               a Faculty in Transformation

 From Food Engineering to Biotechnology & Food Engineering.
The only department in Israel that combines the two
    disciplines.
 Major change in research areas (antioxidants, heart diseases,
    “healthy fats”, drug encapsulation).
 Since 2001 – 10 new faculty members joined the faculty, out of
    a total of 14 faculty members (70%)!!
 Extramural grants –
    $600,000 (2003) $1,400,000 (2007).
 Graduates/year: 40 (2001) 80 (2008).
 Graduate Students: 20 (2001) 40 (2008).
 New building with modern teaching and research laboratories.
