AUT Cancels Boycott
The Association of University Teachers yesterday rescinded its boycott motions against
Israeli universities and pledged to "providing practical solidarity for Palestinian and Israeli
trade unionists and academics by agreeing on a motion committing the union to a full
review of international policy." The move was welcomed by the Israeli Ambassador who
said, “The academic world must play a constructive role in building bridges and
encouraging co-operation, rather than taking retrograde steps that can only sabotage
progress. Let this decision today send an unequivocal message that baseless and overtly
discriminatory boycotts do nothing to further steps towards peace and reconciliation in our
region.”
Other articles and comments about the boycott can be found on Engage website, the
Embassy website, Haifa University website and Bar Ilan University website.

between the two countries as well as promising that Israeli society has the inward strength

Jordan, Israel, PA agree on study to save Dead Sea
Jordan, Israel and the Palestinians agreed met last Sunday and agreed to go ahead with a
three-year feasibility study to save the Dead Sea, the Associated Press reported. Experts
believe that its constant evaporation will lead to its complete disappearance in five
decades. Meeting at the World Economic Forum on the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea,
officials said the US$15 million feasibility study would start this year and is expected to
finish in 2008. Jordan appealed last year for international assistance to help save the sea
and its fragile ecosystem. Israeli Minister of National Infrastructures Benjamin Ben-Eliezer
said at the opening of a panel to discuss the survival of the sea that "The project involves
three parties and our hope is that an era of peace is coming to our region"

Israeli Wine to hit Europe
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Labor Ehud Olmert has approved a five-year plan aimed at
doubling Israel wine exports, Globes reported. A committee recommended a plan aimed at
branding Israeli wine as high-quality, with a wine producing tradition dating back
thousands of years. Yaron Kimhi, chairman of the Israel Wine Institute said that success of
the plan is expected to result in the expansion of vineyards, improve the ranking of Israeli
wines, and contribute to incoming tourism. Israel's wine exports totaled $13.2 million in
2004, 15 percent more than in 2003. Israel exports wine to 57 countries, including the
U.S., France, and the UK.
