A committee recommended a plan aimed at branding Israeli wine as high-quality, with a wine producing tradition dating back thousands of years. Yaron Kimhi, chairman of the Israel Wine Institute said that success of the plan is expected to result in the expansion of vineyards, improve the ranking of Israeli wines, and contribute to incoming tourism. Israel's wine exports totaled $13.2 million in 2004, 15 percent more than in 2003. Israel exports wine to 57 countries, including the U.S., France, and the UK.
