Interview questions can be tricky and nerve-racking. Why? Because it is absolutely impossible to
know exactly which questions will be asked. On top of that, the list of possible questions could go
on for miles. The truth is, while they are all worded in different ways, employers generally want to
know the same things. What are you capable of? Are you responsible? Do you have a stable work
history? You get the picture. Having an idea of the types of questions they will ask will make it
much easier to prepare thoughtful, appropriate answers.

The Basics

Tell me about yourself.

Basic interview questions attempt to find out a little bit about the candidate. They are looking to
find out how interested you are in the company and what you can do for them. Basically, you are
explaining to them why they should hire you. The candidate is typically asked to describe
themselves at the start of the interview. When you answer, be sure to highlight qualifications or
special achievements. Ensure that your details are relevant to the position and its requirements.
This is not a memoir, so avoid telling the interviewer your entire life story from birth until now.

Behavioral Questions

Describe a difficult time in your life and how you dealt with it.
Tell me about a time when you were given a task that was too difficult for you. How did you
handle it?
Give me an example of a time when you ran into a difficult problem on the job and what you did
to resolve the conflict.
Tell me about a time when you were given negative feedback on the job and how you handled it.
Describe your biggest mistake and what you learned from it.

Behavioral questions are used to gauge how you would handle certain situations. Your potential
employer wants to know what problems have risen in the past and how you dealt with them. This
will give them a good idea of how you will handle future complications. These are not always easy
questions to answer. It is best to give positive but honest answers.

Not all questions fit into a specific category. Be prepared for anything! Always try to answer in a
