    Applications are invited for admission to PhD, M. Tech. and ADC Programmes
                                     (2012-13 Session)


Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Major research areas include foundry, forge, manufacturing engineering, materials science,
metallurgical engineering, ceramics, environmental science and engineering, computational
materials engineering, nano materials, thin films and pure and applied sciences.

Master of Technology (M. Tech. - 4 semesters/24 months)
(1) Foundry-Forge Technology (FFT)               (2) Manufacturing Engineering (ME)
(3) Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)      (4) Environmental Engineering (EE)

Advanced Diploma Course (ADC - 3 semesters/18 months)
(1) Foundry Technology                           (2) Forge Technology


                                      ELIGIBILITY

(a) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): M. E./M. Tech. from a recognized institute/university in
    Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and allied
    disciplines with at least 6.5 CGPA (or 60% marks) in aggregate.
                                            OR
    B. E./B. Tech. or its equivalent from a recognized institute/university in Mechanical,
    Metallurgy, Production, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and allied disciplines with at
    least 7.5 CGPA (or 70% marks) in aggregate.
                                            OR
    M. Sc. or equivalent from a recognized institute/university in the relevant discipline
    with at least 6.5 CGPA (or 60% marks) in aggregate.

    Note: To be eligible for Institute scholarship, a valid GATE score/NET qualification is
           mandatory for candidates not possessing M. E./M. Tech. degree.


(b) Master of Technology (M. Tech.):
    EE:   Degree in Engg. (any branch)/M. Sc. in Physics/Chemistry/Environmental Sc.
    FFT: Degree in Mechanical/Metallurgical/Production Engg. or equivalent.
    ME: Degree     in   Mechanical/Manufacturing/Metallurgical/Production/Aeronautical/
          Industrial/Electrical/Chemical Engg.

    MSE: Degree in Mechanical/Metallurgical/Ceramic/Materials Science & Engg. or M. Sc.
           in Physics/Chemistry.

    Note: (1) Candidates with M. Sc. must have studied Mathematics at +2 level.
           (2) Should have secured a minimum CGPA of 6.5 or 60% aggregate marks in the
              qualifying examination.

(c) Advanced Diploma Courses (ADC): Diploma in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Production
    Engg. or B. Sc. (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics) with 50% marks.
(d) In all programmes, a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA (or 5% marks) is allowed for candidates
    belonging to the SC/ST category.
(e) Those appearing in the final examination may also apply. However, such candidates will
    have to produce all the relevant documents within 60 days from the date of admission.
    No further extension will be allowed beyond the stipulated period under any
    circumstances and his/her admission will be cancelled.
(f) Few seats are available for sponsored candidates in ADC and M. Tech. programmes. In
    M. Tech., candidates may also be admitted under self-supporting mode (Non-GATE).


                             SCHOLARSHIP / STIPEND
(a) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD): `18,000/- per month for the first two years and `20,000/-
    per month for the 3rd and 4th years for candidates admitted with Institute scholarship.
(b) Master of Technology (M. Tech.): `8,000/- per month at present, as per AICTE norms,
    for candidates admitted with valid GATE score.
(c) Advanced Diploma Courses (ADC): `1,000/- per month for all selected candidates.
(d) No scholarship for self-sponsored (Non-GATE) and sponsored candidates.


                                    HOW TO APPLY

(a) The application forms and information brochure can be obtained by sending requisite
    application fee, in the form of DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of National
    Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology payable at Ranchi along with a self
    addressed, stamped (Rs. 25.00) envelope of 28×16 cm size, to the Chairman Academic
    Affairs. The application forms and information brochure can also be obtained in person
    from the academic section of the Institute by producing DD towards application fee.

(b) Application Fee
    PhD:       `1000.00 for General/OBC and `500.00 for SC/ST.

    M. Tech.: `600.00 for General/OBC and `300.00 for SC/ST.
    ADC:       `500.00 for General/OBC and `250.00 for SC/ST.

(c) Filled applications with all supporting documents may be sent to Chairman Academic
    Affairs, NIFFT, Hatia, Ranchi - 834 003. The application forms downloaded from the
    Institute website must be accompanied with the requisite application fee in the form of
    DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of National Institute of Foundry and
    Forge Technology payable at Ranchi.

(d) The Institute will not be responsible for any postal delays/loss.

(e) Candidates desirous of applying for more than one M. Tech. programme or more
    than one Department in PhD should submit separate application with requisite
    application fee for each programme / department.

(f) The Institute reserves the right to reject any application without assigning any
    reasons therein.


                   SELECTION PROCESS AND RESERVATION

(a) PhD and M. Tech.: GATE Score/Screening test and interview. List of shortlisted
    candidates and the dates of screening test and/or interview will be announced later in
    the Institute website only. No postal communication will be sent in this regard.

(b) ADC: Written test will be held at Ranchi (NIFFT) on 08/07/2012 (Sunday, 10.00 AM -
    01.00 PM). The following centers may also be available (subject to receipt of sufficient
    applications): Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and Pune.

(c) Reservations as per Govt. of India rules.


                                   IMPORTANT DATES

(a) Issue of applications (PhD, M. Tech. and ADC): 25/04/2012 to 31/05/2012.
(b) Last date for receipt of completed applications for all courses: 06/06/2012.
