So you have finally decided that you want to work abroad and that you want to build a career
on foreign shores.

This may not be an easy-to-achieve goal but it is achievable, as proven by so many expatriates
reaping the benefits of lucrative Overseas Careers in fields where their levels of expertise are
challenged, honed and appreciated.

How to Build a Career Abroad

You actually have several options when it comes to building a career in another country.

If you are currently employed, does your company have a sister company in another country;
and if so, does your position make you eligible to ask for a transfer to one of your office’s
sister company?

If your answer is yes to both questions, then do not hesitate to ask your boss about a possible
transfer or to ask if you can be given the chance to work in their sister company if and when
the opportunity arises.

On the other hand, if working abroad through your current office is not possible; check for
internship programs in different countries that you can apply for.

You can also check for volunteering programs that need people to work in various parts of the
globe.

While these may not provide you with monetary gains, the experience and the opportunity to
travel provide you with a good start on working on your career abroad.

International Overseas Jobs

The key to building a career abroad is to gain as much of an experience as you can in fields
where job opportunities abroad are constantly being offered.

This can be in the field of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, Information
Technology, News, and Communications and Media.

You can also try getting a job in cruise liners that travel to different shores across the globe.

While you may not be living in a foreign land of your choice, you do get to travel practically
around the world and you get to meet a lot of different people from all parts of the globe.

This is a good way to network and expand your horizons until an opportunity opens up where
you can actually stay in a foreign country and work there for awhile.

The important thing to remember here is that job opportunities abroad are always present. The
question is whether or not you are qualified for the job.

This being said, your goal should be to make yourself not only qualified for jobs abroad but to
make yourself rise above other applicants by building a good background experience in the
related field that employers abroad will not think twice about hiring you.
