					Who Was Henry VIII?

(and what’s all the fuss about?)
This song was a big hit when I
           was a child…
I'm Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She's been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn't have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I'm her eighth old man, I'm Henry
Henry the eighth I am
Second and third verse same as the first
H-E-N-R-Y Henry (Henry) Henry (Henry)
Henry the eighth I am, I am
Henry the eighth I am
This version is
performed by
Herman’s
Hermits, but
it was
originally
written and
performed in
1911 by an
English Music
Hall star
named Harry
Champion.
I first heard it
in 1965, and
even though I
was only in
kindergarten, I
wondered who
this Henry guy
was, and what Above, playground at Fort Ord

all the fuss was
                     where my brother broke his
collarbone when he tried to fly
off the slide. (He wasn’t the
about. sharpest pencil in the pack, but
then again, he was only 4!) I
                     went to kindergarten here.
I guess what
I’m trying to
tell you is
that I credit
this song
with turning
me into the
history geek
I am today!
