UNDERGRADUATE COMMENTS ON Q31:
The following responses represent our Undergraduate students on this question
A loss of excellent faculty
A loss of good faculty
Although FAMU is, a wonderful institution and I have learned so much during my time here. My
program does not have enough professors and is currently in jeopardy of been cut. This puts pressure
not only the professors, but the students as well to begin focusing on "covering our butts" so we do not
get cut instead of truly learning the information comfortably so we can be prepared to enter the
healthcare world.
15
As much as I have enjoyed my stay at FAMU, I do not believe that the school has much to offer for pre med
students. I believe that the lack of resources drives the pre med students here to work harder and that helps us
get into medical school. I must say that we have more resources for the pre med here than five years ago but
we are still behind, I would encourage a student seeking to become a doctor to go to a university that has a
hospital affiliated with it so that they can get an unlimited amount of exposure to their area of interest.
because FAMU did a wonderful job in ushering me through my education
Because if they are prepared to attend Florida A&M they will need a very strong backbone and I feel
first time students coming in will not obtain proper guidance.
Because it is being removed after, I leave.
Because my school is letting go numerous teachers and the program.
Because the student/teacher relationship is not always interpersonal and cannot always relate. Some professors
treat my program as if it is on PhD level and we are just in the beginning stages of learning certain things. As a
result, many students become discouraged and too stressful and end up quitting and switching to another major
because of one or two classes that would hold them back from graduating.
College of Education has a lot of work to do within itself and I would not want to recommend a program that does
not treat each student fairly.
FAMU has outgrown its reputation as a quality institution for higher learning. The School of Business and
Industry is poorly operated, most of the professors do not care about the overall intellectual well-being of the
students, it seems as though they are only here for a paycheck. Until FAMU and SBI reach the level of
excellence it was once known for I will not and would not feel comfortable referring anyone to this university.
FAMU is unorganized and academically unstable.
FAMU over the past 5 years has endured many hardships. I feel as though there were times that I was unsure
whether or not I would be able to attain my degree from this university. Financial Aid is horrible, the
administration needs to be more organized when informing students of new policies, etc.
For my particular major (electrical engineer) FAMU is not the top school to obtain the degree.
However, if they were interested in FAMU and wanted to know how I liked it, I would tell them that I
enjoyed myself.
I did not enjoy my experience with my professors.
I did not care for the way some of the classes at FAMU were taught. It seemed that they only focused on
Pharmacy and other science majors when in the major sciences, ie. Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Anatomy.
Even though I know that those are their majors, I feel like the teachers should also try to help the lower sciences
in better understanding.
I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE PROGRAM TEACHES AND PREPARES LANDSCAPE DESIGN STUDENTS
WITH THE MOST ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY, METHODS, AND IDEAS. THE PROGRAM DOES NOT OFFER
DIVERSE POINTS OF VIEW OR ANY HANDS ON TEACHING FOR HANDS ON PROGRAM. IT IS LACKIN IN
FUNDS, FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, TECHNOLOGY, AND DIVERSITY OF STAFF!
I do not feel like a degree from this university will help me gain a job in the future. I do not feel like I learned
anything here that I could not have learned on my own.
I enjoyed my time at FAMU, it help me develop into the person I am today academically, mentally and
emotionally.
I feel as though my program is much hyped and needs to be improved upon.
I feel like there is a strong lack of concern, and diligence put into the advising, informing and counseling students
in steps that they should take or information they should know.
16
I was in the pharmacy program for six years, and it was the worst experience of my life. I changed my major to
nursing because I wanted to help people. I have experienced racism throughout my eight years at FAMU. I have
never felt so degraded in my life just because I was Caucasian. Just because FAMU is, a HBCU does not
excuse the universities racism toward anyone who is not African-American. I have observed and stood up for
others who were different races throughout my years at FAMU. However, no changes were implemented in any
class I have been in. The situations were always over looked by staff, administration, and students. I have been
continuously disappointed in the treatment I have received from FAMU at all levels of my education experience. I
did not matter if a professor had a bachelor's degree or a doctorate degree, the racism was always there. I have
only had a handful of instructors who stood up to the class when prejudice was occurring in the classroom. I am
grateful for those instructors, because they are the only reason I did not drop out of FAMU many years ago. If I
were to change anything at FAMU, it would be to eliminate racism throughout the school. I came to FAMU with
an open mind to all races, but I had left FAMU with hate in my heart. I am truly saddened to have this burden
placed on me, and I hope my few African-American friends that I made at FAMU will help to soften my heart
again.
I would not recommend FAMU because of the administration. There are too many discrepancies in
what they tell students. In addition, there is not enough respect given to students inquiring about
services or problems. The administrators are not thorough and do not follow through with duties and
do not notify students of changes in time for them to be corrected
If anyone is truly interested in learning the field of respiratory, I would recommend a program with
more staff and better labs/ clinical experience than what FAMU's program offered. It was very difficult
for me to grasp certain concepts and took many outside sources not associated w/ my school to help
me gain a better understanding of my field.
If you want money, then you should try another program. This program helps in teaching and learning to grow to
be a better person.
In life there are many road blocks and issues, but some of issues, I feel were at the fault of the university that
could have been avoided or handled better (i.e. financial aid, registrar, housing), were frustrating and
discouraging, and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the stress.
It depends on the person because everyone experience at this university is different.
it Is a very good and intellectual program
Lack of consistency
Maybe depend on if some of the thing change toward the right direction
My department has lost too many outstanding faculties. This has affected the quality of the program.
Need More Professor
Not a competitive environment. Poor advising.
Not completely satisfied
Outdated curriculum and equipment
Quality of service is poor and self centered
SBI has experienced many changes (i.e. dean, professors, and availability of classes) since entering Fall 2005.
It is my hope that we (FAMU & SBI) actively work on rectifying our problems so that we may once again become
a highly respected institution.
Teachers are good but facilities and equipment are outdated.
The Architecture program is the other good thing at FAMU.
The college of education is very disorganized
The item that was most important in my decision to attend FAMU is because it is a HBCU.
The landscape design department needs a new design professor teaching modern design styles and theories.
Right now, the main professor in the program is incompetent, has no lesson plan for classes, and according to
other professors and professionals in my career field, is teaching us design techniques from many years ago.
The negative experience I have had with financial aid is the major reason I would not recommend FAMU. My
experience in SBI was great, but that was overshadowed every time I had to go to the Foote Hilyer Building.
17
The program is behind the times. It does not make the student leaving the program an equal opportunity as
other schools with the same degree. EX) University of Florida, Auburn or Georgia. Our faculties are poorly
maintained and our Curriculum is out of date. Needs a major overhaul of the program.
The program I have completed needs more organization. While I commend Dr. Norman for taking a new position
and beginning to pick up the pieces, many issues still need attention.
The program of study I acquired was not the problem it is the other departments that go along with
acquiring an education at FAMU that causes me not to want to suggest the university to anyone I
know. The professors are at the top of their game but many of the staff working in various offices (i.e.;
Financial aid, registrars, housing...etc) need improvement.
The Psychology Department does not have in-depth advising. What I mean by that is the advisors do not give
suggestions on what routes a student should take towards their academic success. I also would like them to
have an internship program so we can acquire proper experience before we graduate and are released into the
work field. The Psychology Department should focus on improving before I recommend anyone these areas. I
am not just pointing the finger. I am planning to return to Florida A&M University (sometime within the next five
years) so that I may help become "The nation's #1 University" once again.
The school does not really specialize in Graphic Design/Communication.
The school of architecture is a great program
The school of nursing is much unorganized, and they do not respect our time or the students. Some of
the teachers are very unprofessional.
The schools all need to be accredited soon!
There are better programs for my degree. I feel that people leave my major without full understanding of the real
life.
There are better schools out there for Electrical Engineering as a major.
They do not promote graduation. That is not the music department’s number one goal. Play the instrument is the
number one goal. When helping students graduate becomes important then I will recommend FAMU.
They would have to deal with an unhelpful chairperson and a couple of teachers in the Spanish department who
will not adequately prepare them for careers using the language. In short, I would recommend someone who
wants to study Spanish to some other school with a more refined program. FAMU's Spanish program, while it
has its short list of pros, is more of a basic, "we had to offer something" program.
To be honest, one can attend much better places. The politics are ridiculous in my department. I am thankful for
everything I have gained at FAMU, but my department needs a major overhaul.
We need to offer a Masters program in Economics. Since the budget cutes a lot of things have been cut out
Yes but not graduate school
GRADUATE COMMENTS ON Q31:
The following represent our graduate students’ responses to Q31. (i.e. Why they would not
Recommend FAMU to others)
Again, the customer service in the Registrar's Office and Financial Aid Office was dreadful and I do not wish the hindrance I have
endured on any one.
At this time, our program needs further structuring and guidance.
18
However, in the graduate program, slim liar skills, but a particular professor (JB) made the learning environment very difficult, not
just one student but also many. She very unprofessional discusses other student’s grades with other students and other in public
like football games and at hair salon. She verbally abuses some students to make she feel better, no constructive remarks. She had
power of grades, and often reminds the students of it. No students would dare to speak out because of backlash. She states to
several students that I know you all give me poor evaluation, just to see the students denied, to see if they really did her bad score. I
will not advise to another student go through the kind of hazing. The reputation of the professor is giving The Nursing Graduate
Program a bad name. The other professors (DB-F) are kind, caring and willing to go the extra mile. This overshadow by negative
professor (she has lied about situation, students, other professor, and people in the community. Needs to more organized
DEPARTMENT WAS VERY UNORGANIZED DUE TO THE LIMITED NUMBER OF FACULTY. EVERYTHING WAS LAST MINUTE
INDCLUDING RECEIVING ASSIGNMENTS FOR OUR CLINICAL ROTATION. IN ADDITION, OUR CLASS SCHEDULE WAS NOT
AS STATED ON OUR SCHEDULE; ONE CLASS WAS ON A SUNDAY. WITH MOST OF THE CLASSES, THE DAYS AND TIMES
WERE CHANGED AND WERE EVEN RANDOM AT TIMES.
Despite the needless of this type of surveys, FAMU is a GREAT school because of and in spite of the professors. This type of
survey is pointless, a waste of time and resources, and irrelevant because the suggestions will never be implemented to make the
graduation process, a pain-free experience.
FAMU Graduate Feeder Program needs to become more active with students who are interested in their program.
I do not feel like I can competently work in my field of study at this point due to lack of proper instruction, and there were too many
unnecessary interdepartmental distractions.
I found the program to be very disorganized, which put allot of stress on my classmates and myself.
I think as a HBCU, the school as a whole need to strive for excellence in whatever it attempts to do. I feel that the school lacks in
many crucial areas.
I will be glad to and great honor to recommend Florida A & M University Undergraduate School on Nursing to others. However, my
experience with the Graduate School of Nursing was unpleasant one and unforgettable. My experience within the Graduate School
of Nursing consisted of a professor hazing, harassing and verbally abusing students. Something that is not permitted and would
definitely detour students from the university.
I would but with restraint. SBI needs to refocus its energy into strengthening its brand to where it used to be when I first came in
2004
I would recommend FAMU SOA to another student who lives in/near Tallahassee and did not want to or could not relocate, which
was my situation.
I would recommend it only if administration improves or if she/he can fund their education out of pocket.
I would recommend others to my field of study when there is more stability within SBI and it achieves accreditation.
Instability in the business school for a number of years causes me to hesitate to refer it
My program has caused me nothing but pain and hardship. I have transferred here as a straight 'A' student, and hopefully I will
leave here as a straight 'A' student. The only difference is that it was much easier at my former University. Not because it was less
challenging academically, but because they, the staff, did their jobs, which left me with the time to do mine. At this very moment, my
program is functioning without a Director, and has been for some time. However, because of this change, the program has made
some progress, just not enough to recommend others to endure the same torment. Wow, I wish I could offer more positive
criticisms, but I wanted to be honest and be heard.
My program needs much more organization and consistency. Some of the issues I had to deal with were unnecessary. It would not
be worth the hassle
Not organized and lack of respect for students
Personally, for me, I would have like to double major but I could because those options were not given. I would not recommend the
institution to an undergraduate because of all the personal horror stories involving student accounts, financial aid and the registrar
office. I also do not like the Housing conditions and the policies they face. I also think the campus is too heavily focused on
socializing and other extracurricular activities instead of investing in the necessities for academic growth e.g. more computer labs
and tutor areas, internship and scholarship office (needs improvement), library hours.
Plus I think that there is value in separating the undergrad and grad degrees
The curriculum is good, but the faculty is struggling to operate efficiently and effectively without the interference of egos, personal
relationships, or the lack thereof. Often, the most knowledgeable professors are not teaching in their areas of expertise. Students
are often caught in the crossfire, which makes for an incredibly unpleasant experience.
19
The Faculty of the Graduate School of Nursing is very unprofessional. Speaking from experience students are hazed, harassed and
verbally abused. More faculties are needed to teach within the graduate school. The undergraduate program of the School of
Nursing is an excellent.
The finance department in SBI has a lot more work to do before I can recommend that someone attend here. There are not enough
professors, or classes for someone to take if they are interested in a finance degree.
The logistics of being an off-campus FAMU student made it frustrating to participate in this program. For example, out of 7
semesters of classes, I was only able to register for 2 without difficulty. In addition, the department lost records and documents
numerous times, and continued to place the burden of relocating and supplying them to the school on me. There was very little
accountability being taken on the school's behalf to right the 'wrongs' that were done to the students in this program. On the
contrary, the expectations and 'hoops' seemed to increase with each passing semester. I did not feel that my time was valued or
respected as a working adult throughout this process.
The paperwork processes involved in becoming and continuing as a student are extremely frustrating at times.
The program was HELL and administration is not trying to prepare it. It should be shut down until someone can correctly organize
the program and run it. It has a tarnished reputation and it was difficult to find an internship once the school name was introduced.
The school is run like the DMV. No one at the school cares about the students or their success. Those who run FAMU are only
there to pad their own resumes, wield power over those who rely on them, and puff themselves up while knocking others down.
There have been a lot of structural changes since beginning at SBI, and I feel that none have increased the quality of the student's
academic experience
Yes to the undergraduate program, that I went through was excellent. The program made me prepared for the world real. I obtained
wealth of knowledge, critical thinking skills ( thinking outside the box), and confidence that I was skilled nursing student
FIRS T PROFESSIONAL (LAW) STUDENTS’ COMMENTS ON Q31:
I will only if they fix the financial aid issues. It is getting better though.
School is not fiscally responsible, it has too many financial aid problems, do not get grades on time and finally it has
not been accredited.
I do not know whether they will receive accreditation.
Because this school does not strive for excellence, and wastes the talents of professors and students.
This experience was challenging on nearly every front but academically. From Financial Aid, to Registration, to grade
disbursement, many areas of the law school created unnecessary, unresolved strife in the lives of its students.
The administration is not up to par.
Accreditation process is still up in the air. Not enough changes yet
It is a great program academically, but the amount of stress from the administration, and just the lack of support from
main campus, makes it difficult to be a student. I would not want to wish that type of stress on anyone.
Now, I would say "no" only because I believe that the law school has some growing to do and has not received its full
accreditation. I would like to see who stays with the school permanently, as many professors and administrators have
come and gone during my tenure at the law school. I am encouraged by some of the positive things that Dean Pernell
has brought to the school, but there is still much growing to be done.
I love my alma mater but I feel that FAMU college of law has miles to travel in the area of student relations. FAMU
treats students as if they are a nuisance as opposed to the only reason why the University exists. FAMU is not
student centered, student focused, or accommodating to the needs of students. Autonomy issues and red tape make
students frustrated. Professionalism is lacking. Until there is a clear paradigm shift towards things such as respect,
professionalism, and student focus, I will not be urging people to enroll.
There are enough things to worry about in law school...having to worry about whether administration likes you enough
to push your paperwork through before the deadline and whether you are going to get kicked out of your apartment
the night before midterms, because financial aid has not come yet, should not be a part of the process.
20
My experience has been Disappointing, I will not send my children or friends and family here unless there are serious
changes.
Administration was very disorderly compared to prior experience at other schools.
My answer is no, although I would like to recommend FAMU to others because I attended, my other experiences in
higher education did not present the issues I experienced while in attendance FAMU College of Law. However, I am
grateful for the opportunity and plan to one day create a scholarship fund because I may not have gotten the
opportunity had it not been for FAMU.
Until FAMU Law can reach the level I believe it can be, I do not want my friends or others to experience what I have. I
am being honest, and I love FAMU, but right now, some things need to change before I let anyone I know become a
victim of the system.
Too many reasons - Bureaucracy. The law school is not cared about by main campus. Too many territorial contests.
Too many problems with financial aid. Grade corruption. Registration difficulties. Too many issues to recount over the
last three years....
If it is all they can afford...then yes. Otherwise, accreditation has still not been decided, so I could not recommend the
University as a result.
I feel the College of Law still has too many outstanding issues that prevent the college from providing a quality
education to students. Furthermore, the college has a poor reputation in the legal community and the school's
reputation actually makes it more difficult for students to obtain employment after graduation.
The financial aid system is too slow, students are treated as if FAMU is doing you a favor in allowing you to attend,
administration does not listen to the concerns of students and this is the more aggravation than basic training.
Because accreditation is uncertain
Not until the school is accredited and learns how to manage its administration.
Lack of organization and communication from the administration.

Undergraduates’ Comments on Q43
"FAMU IS A VERY GREAT INSTITUTION AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD".
A bright light needs to be shined on everyone. Certain people need to be under the microscope. I believe that
adherence to university policy should be a mandate for all faculty and that people should stop ignoring people
half-stepping.
ADVISER SHOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR THE STUDENTS AND IF THE ADVISERS ARE TOO BUSY THEN PERHAPS THEY
SHOULD NO BE ADVISERS.
ADVISERS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE MORE TO ASSIST STUDENTS
24
All university support personnel needs customer service training.
ALLOW STUDENTS WHO HAVE YET TO DECLARE AN UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE SEEK MORE THAN JUST SBI. ALLIED
HEALTH HAS A WEALTH OF MAJORS SPECIFIC TO IN DEMAND JOBS THAT ARE RESESSION PROOF!
Appoint senior mentors to freshmen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Be patient with all FAMU's mishaps. Most likely, you knew their reputation in those areas before you got
here. For example: Financial Aid.
Be prepared for the Administration Department and enjoy your years.
BE THOROUGH AS ADMINISTRATORS AND MAKE IT EASIER TO GET DOCUMENTATION AND STOP
WORKING FOR YOURSELVES AND WORK FOR THE STUDENTS
Besides parking being a major concern, Overall, I think FAMU is a great campus and it is very conducive to
meeting new people and learning.
Better academic advisement. All students should not have to go to get their school email activated it should
automatically be activated with acceptance to the school and it should stay that way. This helps students
know what is going on around campus.
Better Management overall
Better Organization and communication with the students.
Continue to hire, train and mold passionate and dedicated professors who can allocate information well.
Create checks and balances that will make FAMU, students more marketable to the world.
Customer service is key to every company or organization, I suggest that some changes be made in
employee interaction with (customers) students
Demand higher standards from students.
FAMU I LOVE THEE!
FAMU is a great school; a better foundation just needs time to take place. I believe president Ammons is
doing his best.
Financial Aid STILL needs to be improved
Florida A&M University does a good job in offering opportunities through partnerships. I believe that it is on
the student to take them.
Focus on the student's needs.
Follow up and request Alumni financial support and continue to uphold the legacy and the motto of Florida
A&M University which is, "Excellence With Caring."
FOR YOU SHAPED ME TO BE A BETTER PERSON AND I WON'T MIND RECOMMENDING ANOTHER PERSON. HOWEVER, I
HOPE FAMU CAN DISCONTINUE ALL THESE PAPER WORK ISSUES CONCERNING GRADUATION AND STAR MAKING IT WEB
BASE.
From the aspect of the School's Administration, I would recommend for FAMU not to give the incoming
students the run-around. By the time students become seniors, many of them have been abused by the
system and run into the ground so much; they cannot wait to leave FAMU and the bad experiences they
encountered behind. I would also suggest the Advisors within the specific majors encourage and support the
students rather than ignore them as mine did.
Get more students
Getting a hold of certain people on the phone or email seems almost impossible. It should be made easier to
get in touch with people.
25
Give them the option of requesting an official transcript completely online. None of that paper work and faxing
a request. Majority of the community colleges around the states make this option available to their students,
we are one of the leading black colleges in the United States. We can make it happen!
GRE courses that students can take for a grade. Some schools have people who they have hired as test
taking instructors.
great job so far
Have better customer service at the administrative level. Promote more academic programs rather than social
programs. The level of social programs in the university directs the students' attention from his/her study.
Remodel the facilities and make them better, equip them with efficient technology
I am glad to say that i have attended FAMU and will always support the institute that has provided me with a
solid foundation for my future.
I am very eager to attend graduate school immediately following post undergraduate studies.
I Believe in FAMU
I do not have any further comments about FAMU I think the school has improved since I have been there and
hope that it continues to grow.
I enjoyed my undergraduate years here at FAMU. Attitudes and professionalism from administration just
needs to be improved as if they WANT to be here to help students.
I feel that each college and school should have their own career to cater to their major. I know in SBI we have
a big career fair every year and it saddens me when I see students with other majors who cannot find people
at the career who are looking for them.
I had a life learning experience that I think I would have never received at any other university. I had fun
I HAVENT TAKEN MY GRE YET BUT REGISTERED TO TAKE IT ON MAY 21ST. IN THE FUTURE, FAMU CAN ENCOURAGE THEIR
STUDENTS TO TAKE THEIR GRE BEFORE THEY GRADUATE OR HELP ORGANIZE SOME STUDY SESSIONS FOR
GRADUATING STUDENTS WHO WISH TO ATTEND GRADUATE SCHOOL AFTER FAMU.
I JUST WILL NOT TO SAY THANKS TO FAMU FOR EVERYTHING.
I LOVE FAMU
I Love FAMU
I love FAMU and the experience I had. My only concern(s) are that while I understand we are in a rebuilding
process, I hope the trends continue in a positive direction. FAMU has produced very successful people. I
would hope we continue to expand, minds and as well as maintaining the same level as other colleges. (as
far as equipment, technology, learning environment)
I love FAMU no matter what comment I make.
I Love FAMU!!!!
I love FAMU!!!! As long as the faculty and administration care, FAMU will be even better. FAMU knows what
they need to work on. They need to update and upgrade facilities and materials. They also need to make
sure they effectively communicate with students and parents and provide materials that can be of assistance
in any area.
I never wanted to go away to college, but after 3 years at FAMU I try to tell everyone I know to go to school
for a degree. I know I have changed for the better. Thanks largely to FAMU.
I think FAMU should have more scholarships available for students coming to the graduate school especially
for students with high GPAs. FAMU should also provide more recourse for daycare for student parents
because many students have children by the time they get to graduate school yet FAMU does not provide
subsidized childcare for these students.
I think it will be neat if Florida A&M University could send out two representatives from each school or college,
to visit high school juniors and seniors all around the United States to recruit.
26
I think that the school needs to work on the campus email accounts and parking...Being towed is no fun!
I think the parking for students should improve.
I wish future graduates the best and may this university continue to get better and better.
I would recommend Florida A&M University to a friend or family member I feel some professors care and truly
want to see the students succeed.
Implement Professional Development throughout the school.
It is great.
It will be a good idea to make pre-professional majors more of a "program" so that we can successful
matriculate to dental or medical school. (i.e. pre-pharmacy students)
It will be useful for there to be a program to help with transition into grad school
It would be beneficial for students to be expose the graduate programs available in all programs in allied
health
Keep Tradition going
LIKE I SAID BE RECEPTIVE TO STUDENTS. THE STUDENTS MOSTLY FEEL THE ATTITUDES ARE VERY UNWELCOMING. IN
ADDITION, THE REGISTRATION PROCESS IS RIDICULOUS. FACULTIES ARE NOT PREPARED AND SOMETIMES UNSURE.
LISTEN TO PRESENT STUDENT SUGGESTIONS.
Look to expand the degrees offered by schools. For instance, there could be a program for entertainment
law/business.
Make Customer Service a priority!!! The students are your customers.
Make sure future students know all the wonderful majors, opportunities, and resources FAMU have to offer in
the very beginning!
Make sure future students know the many majors and opportunities available at FAMU when they 1st get
there.
more consideration for students and less inconveniences
More facilities for the dance organizations on campus
More funding to improve on-campus living by renovation and modernization.
MORE PARKING!!!!
FAMU should provide more programs and majors to offer in the Graduate School. I would have loved to stay
a Rattler, but they did not offer any program of interest to me.
More programs to help out-state students and better communication between departments.
My experience was fine, but getting the run around almost all of the time gets ridiculous... just make sure
people behind the desks have been briefed as to what's going on, so they aren't sending people elsewhere,
just for them to be sent back.

Need to start giving out aid by the first week of school. I also do notunderstand if you order an official
transcript and pay 5 dollars why do you have to wait 5-10 days to get it printed out. Then when you get there
to pick up its still not ready and you get upset then the lady in the registers office say okay I going to print it
out right now. If it was that easy for you to print it out then why do I have to wait 5-10 days? It used to be 3
days and I think it needs to change back to that.
Once you enrolled in the school, a student must have an idea of what area/field you are going to study.
Overall, I would say Florida A&M University is a great school despite some of the downfalls we might have as
in student parking, food, and financial aid.
Please have everyone on FAMU staff ready and willing to lend a helping hand.
Please prioritize fund allocation. No one cares about have a multi-million dollar recreation center when they
cannot schedule for the classes him or her desire. In addition, Financial Aid is suspicious; at Morgan State,
we had aid counselors for each student. Hire more Financial Aid staff so student can have their own
counselor. Let us let students know how much money is available. Financial Aid picks favorites. We need full
disclosure on the availability of funds.
please provide more student parking
Please work on improving the administrative services like the financial aid office and the registration process.
These processes has been slow for since i arrived at FAMU and i heard it had been that way before i got
here. In addition, the employees are very rude. If they do not like their job so much, please tell them to quit.
After all, it is our scholarships and other financial aid money that are paying for their position. I love FAMU
and forever will, I will even advise my young siblings, cousins, friends, and my children to attend this great
University, but please work on the customer service. Please! Thank You. FAMU today, FAMU tomorrow, and
FAMU forever.
-Practice good study habits in the beginning, meaning the first semester you attend.
prepare things needed for students in steps, make information available, and be Very ORGANIZED
Provide GMAT and GRE courses on campus
Reach out more and continue to provide tours for the university because that is how I found out about
Florida A&M. By coming on the tour, everyone that attended with me wanted to apply.
REALIZE THAT THE STUDENTS ARE FIRST ABOVE EVERYONE, AND TREAT THEM AS SUCH.
Recruit in other areas other than east coast.
shut it down
Sophomores/Freshmen take the GRE. Create a GRE Prep class that freshmen and sophomores can take it.
Start with administration. Each office, especially financial aid, needs to get it together and get faster at
processing students info. It is ridiculous to have to wait a long while and not even know how to go about
certain things.
Students should be informed about certain job deadlines and submission deadlines.
The old FAMU DRS school should not be given to the school of pharmacy. They JUST received a new
building in 2003. So many majors are housed in Tucker Hall because they do not have a specific building.
The College of Education could use the classrooms as mock teaching rooms for the students to get a better
experience of what teaching is truly about.

The Philosophy department is incredibly sound and deserves more funding and a closer look at its
accomplishments.
The registrar office must be more professional and have a willingness to help.
The university needs to provide more opportunities for scholarships for people, such as myself, who have
achieved academic success.
There need to be more seminars held in every department. Seminars will give students the opportunity to see
what is going on in their field of study and will show them potential career choices. These seminars should
not only highlight research going on here at Florida A&M University, but people from other institutions should
be brought in.
There needs to be more money allocated in the graduate programs especially for students with high GPAs.
There also needs to be more money provided for childcare assistance or vouchers offered for childcare
assistance.
Try harder to get students to stay enrolled at this University for Graduate school.
Try to rid the world of money, so that we will be productive and diligent while doing works that you desire to
do, instead of doing things you do not really want to be doing just to make money.
Understand that the students are the University top priority. Some of the Staff at FAMU are quite rude and
should understand that our tuition plays a large part of their salaries. The University should also work on
getting more of the programs offered at FAMU accredited. More Parking availability should be made available
for students in Allied Health.
Unfortunately, due to the budget cuts, i understand staffing is a problem but Cardiopulmonary needs more
faculties to assist with the tedious curriculum. This is a great program but because we have limited faculty i
feel we have not received certain competencies needed to feel completely prepared but because of the large
amount of information needed us to learn in the short amount of time.
When you are calling the Financial Aid office, you can rarely get through to find out who you need to see to
take care of your money discrepancies, this is a huge problem for students who do not live on campus and
have to travel 30-40 minutes to campus. This needs to improve.

special office should be set up to assist students who are in distance learning program who would help with the
gistrars and accounts offices.
oo often students are in the wrong line (even after they have checked the website to go wherever they are told to go)
ying to fix problems that they are sent to other departments to handle. Oftentimes, they have to go from line to line just
find out they were in the correct line the first time and simply needed documentation of some sorts from one office (i.e.
udent Accounts) to give to another office (like Financial Aid). These types of actions discourage students during their
atriculation as they spend countless amounts of time in line trying to handle business to get their school issues together.
esident Ammons is doing a fantastic job as well as others, but so much more can be done regarding efficiency and
mesavings. Some excuses may apply because FAMU is an HBCU, but we should still be able to excel beyond other
BCUs and even some PWCs and TWCs (to some extent). With the proper implementation of these suggestions, I
elieve enrollment will continue to grow, funding will increase as well, and students will use word of mouth to publicize the
eat experiences they encountered at FAMU.
e informative and communicate with the students.
e responsive, consistent and committed in everything you do
ontinue to be a university that places the needs and welfare of the students first, and continue to be friendly towards
udents when they need questions answered regarding financial aid or any other concerns.
ustomer service
ustomer service throughout the campus. A re-assessment of mid and lower management is needed. The new
dministration installed competent leadership with VPs and Directors, but most of the work and potential for problems
lls in the lower levels. Communication has always been a concern and should be improved as well.
AMU graduate feeder program must do a better job with staying in contact with students who have a sincere interest in
oing to graduate school. I have called and gone by to speak with Dr. Hayward several times, but no one has responded
ack to me. It is incidents such as this, that I as an out- going student will remember the most about FAMU.
AMU has plenty of room to improve upon the way student records and paperwork is handled.
orida A&M University has to work on communication throughout the entire university, including the students.
rants for graduate students would help.
elp desk could be more available.
ove FAMU; however, steps should be implemented where students and parents are able to do less foot traffic. This has
een done in some ways, yet there is still more that can be done. Students should not have to have their transcript
osted, and then walk downstairs to pay for them at the Cashier's Office, and then return to the Registrar's Office.
ove Florida A&M University. They Need to fine better employees in critical positions, like advisors, deans etc.
hink that there needs to be a change in culture here at FAMU. We are unable to keep up with the changes that are
oing on around us and we are losing enrollment because of this. More money should be spent on technology,
holarships and student parking. There needs to be more accountability for all faculty and staff, tenure should not
atter, but it does.

ust improvement in administration with staff and increase organizational skills to be able to implement classes more
ficiently and effectively. More additional staff to be able to organize internship placements more efficiently.
ust reaching out to the law school by sending a representative to the law school on a regular basis, and also putting a
andatory bar prep program in place so that students can pass the bar the first time they take it.
ake FAMU a more graduate school friendly school. Set Fridays and other undergraduate activities take away the ability
show that this school can be a place for responsible graduate study.

aise the academic bar. Establish a dress code like Morehouse. I am tired of seeing men's rear ends and/or body parts
females. Students do not need to be in business suits every day, but their attire should display respect for themselves.
un FAMU as an academic institution of higher learning, not as a politically motivated monster, forgetting its true
urpose: education.
reamline the registration process. Assure that faculty treat all students with respect and dignity
ummer classes would be nice.
hanks FAM!!
o improve the student experience at Florida A&M University, you must improve the efficiency and accuracy of services
ovided to them. All required forms must be readily available on campus or online, and processes and procedures must
e clearly stated and easy to follow. Accurate records must be kept, and personnel must be available regularly during
ormal business hours to assist students. You must be student-focused. Anyone who is unable or unwilling to do so
hould be strongly encouraged to seek another place of employment.
o offer more classes for students to take in the summer.
ES. MANY OPTIONS WERE NOT INCLUDED ON THIS SURVEY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. FOR EXAMPLE, I RECEIVED MY OFFERS FOR
TERNSHIPS THROUGH THE INTERNSHIP OFFICE OF THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS & INDUSTRY (SBI). HOWEVER, I DID NOT HAVE THE
PTION OF "OTHER" TO DENOTE THIS ON THIS SURVEY. THE INTERNSHIP & RESIDENCY OFFICE HAS PLAYED ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE

AMU.

Clean house -- from top to bottom -- at the Law School. Moreover, pray for mercy from the ABA.
FAMU PLEASE DO BETTER.
Listen to their needs. Enhance the reputation of FAMU throughout the nation and throughout the world.
Make the College of Law a separate entity from main campus. Get rid of administration and deans who have
been hired simply because of their connections with others in administration (nepotism).
More career fairs
Please take the necessary steps to ensure that the law school receives full accreditation
Process paperwork in a timely manner
Professionals (Pharmacy) graduates’ Comments on Q43
Administrative issues are still horrible. The Office of financial aid still needs major improvement.
As far as the pharmacy program, the last year (6th year) of pharmacy school is critical for students. I believe that rotations should
involve mandatory rotations for ALL students, (i.e. pain management). I also feel that General Medicine I & II should expose students
to as much as possible on site, so that students can gain more knowledge and feel more confident. I also think that seminar should
be based solely on preparation for the NAPLEX and MPJE, but still include informative information related to the field of pharmacy.
This would definitely reinforce education that was taught the previous years, as well as make students more prepared by graduation.
Another issue that needs to be handled is that 5th Year is not clinically based enough! When compared to UF students, they were
31
prepared more clinically and had more hands-on clinical practice than FAMU students had because they started the transition
process before 6th Year. Furthermore, FAMU needs to recruit better preceptors. Some preceptors are awesome, whereas others
seemed like they wished they did not have to deal with students and would just give you either busy work or nothing at all. How can
this help students? I hope someone takes the time to REALLY evaluate the preceptors at some point in time and really listen/read
evaluations that students perform about preceptors they have had.
CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS TO BE GREATLY IMPROVED
Even though I have been through many personal challenges at FAMU, I would not trade my FAMU experience for nothing.
I am proud to have graduated from FAMU. I knew before I even graduated from high school that FAMU was going to enable me to be
great. I feel FAMU needs to ensure that the recruiting aspects never drop. I will never forget when the FAMU strikers came to Miami
and performed for recruitment at my high school there was no doubt in my mind that I would one day be a member of the unique
FAMU strikers. We need to give more money to organizations such as this to spread the great name and talents of our school.
FAMU is a wonderful University. Of course it has its difficulties (especially with student aid and parking), but what school does not. I
am so glad I am from FAMU and there is no place like it in the world.
Financial Aid Services
Have graduate fair. I think FAMU should better advertise the graduate programs available at FAMU and neighboring universities. Fix
staff and faculty attitudes about their jobs and obligations to the students of FAMU so that they do not leave a "bad taste" in the
student’s mouth that may deter them from recommending attendance to the university.
Improve parking to avoid having students pay unnecessary money to the college and do not take money from programs for petty
things for the school that should be handled with money the school should be saving for just an occasion.
Improve the financial aid department
Let us get back to the basics and implement the traits that established FAMU as the "College of the Year"!
More parking and improved financial aid services.
offer testing help and mock exams
Please provide more financial assistance or suggestions for out-of-state students. It is very hard being out-of-state and paying higher
fees, but I feel that all students should be able to experience all the opportunities that FAMU has to offer!!
Renovate Sampson, Young and Polkinhorne housing facilities to alleviate housing stress for our growing university population.
Repaint Bragg Memorial Stadium.
The process by which Financial Aid and its employees handle students and their requests for information needs to be evaluated and
improved greatly.
There needs to be more efficient record keeping and communication between the administrative offices and the students. For
example, it is very disappointing to have to find out at the last minute or never to be informed at all of deadlines for certain
documentation or find out that that documentation has been lost by the university.
Turn the old FAMU DRS into a multi-level parking garage to alleviate parking stress for students.
