       TECHNOLOGY GROUP (TG) & SENIOR TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH
                    FELLOWSHIP (STRF) SCHEMES


The process for allocation of BHRC funds through its Technology Group (TG) and
Senior Translational Research Fellowship (STRF) schemes is based on the following
principles:

       Alignment with the funding allocation process of external national bodies
        including, MRC and NIHR

       Review process to include BHRC Executive plus senior academics with
        knowledge of Biomedical and Health Research of the University of Leeds and
        Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust

       Use of an independent Chair to ensure transparency and independence in
        the process

Extensive consideration was given to the use of reviewers from academic
institutions outside Leeds; however, the need to consider proposals as part of an
integrated strategy for delivering biomedical and health research across Leeds
requires local knowledge. The inclusion of senior academics with a strategic
knowledge of the national agenda for Biomedical and Health Research alongside an
understanding of local arrangements and requirements was therefore deemed more
appropriate.

The following arrangements for allocation of TG and STRF Funds were approved by
the BHRC Executive on 27th April 2009.
