FESCO OCEAN MANAGEMENT LTD. SELECTS
WTS AGENCIES’ GLOBAL SYSTEMS SOLUTION
VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Seeking out a proven and cost-effective global systems solution, Fesco Agencies
N.A. (FANA) as General Agents for Fesco Ocean Management Ltd. (FOML) has signed a new contract with
WTS Agencies for the worldwide implementation of its World Trade System (WTS), a fully integrated
transportation application, effective immediately.
The WTS software supplies a variety of carrier-specific functions, including customer relationship
management, booking, documentation, logistics, equipment control, per diem management, accounting,
marketing & sales, as well as maintenance and repair – all designed to better manage the information process
that ocean carriers, shipping agencies and freight forwarders require. It also comes with a transactional
Internet application, known as WTS-i, where FOML’s customers can conduct all of their daily business online,
including cargo tracking, invoices, bookings, vessel scheduling and instant bills of lading.
The system, currently in use in North America by FANA, will be implemented at its other offices worldwide,
including Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia, which encompasses Fesco Australia North America
Line (FANAL), Fesco Australia Line (FAL) and Fesco New Zealand Line (FNZEL) and its overseas agency
companies in Australasia representing all FOML cross trade lines. The installation is expected to be completed
by the fourth quarter of 2003.
According to Kurt W. Werth, WTS Agencies’ president and CEO, WTS will provide FOML with a global
systems solution at the heart of which is a single, centralized database. “This will deliver real time access to
data, eliminate re-keying of information, reduce paper between offices, and maximize EDI functionality with
customers, vendors, banks and other businesses,” he said. “The centralized database will supply FOML with
superior efficiency of dataflow and infrastructure costs, such as hardware and communications lines required
to move information from one office to another. It ultimately standardizes basic work processes and improves
service quality performance in both the timeliness and accuracy of data as shipment information moves real
time and instantaneously from export to import and vise versa. It is really the most efficient way for ocean
carriers to operate and provide world-class service to their own customers.”
When asked why they selected WTS Agencies to manage their global system requirements, FOML’s vice
president and general manager, Aspi Rostami, said WTS Agencies handles the back-room functions for Fesco
Agencies N.A., Inc. and are very knowledgeable about the FOML business processes. “They are a customer-
focused organization with a proven track record, which allows us to focus on the shipping business. They
operate as an independent and transparent business unit staffed with experienced shipping professionals,
which provides a low and variable cost model suited to today’s economic and business reality.”

Rostami also noted WTS offers a very economical alternative to FOML developing its own system. “It is ideal
for quality-focused ocean carriers who operate in markets that require high levels of customer service. Once
the system is deployed globally, our entire organization will operate on a single system, providing real time and
reliable information to our customers. The WTS software also meets all the regulations required by U.S.
Customs, which allows FOML to concentrate on its customer relationships, while being assured that the
documentation is in compliance with U.S. Customs.”
Werth explained, “Many very large carriers are currently using outdated or ’green screen’ systems that are
inefficient to use and difficult and costly to maintain. They realize they must upgrade their systems and some
of these companies have spent tens of millions of dollars, up to as much as $75+ million, for customized
systems development. I don’t understand it. Why would a carrier go to all the time, effort, expense, and most
importantly, the risk of ’greenfield’ systems development when they can modify a proven product like ours, at a
fraction of the cost, as well as implemented in a fraction of the time it would take to write and implement
customized software?” asked Werth. “Carriers do not build their own ships so why should they build their own
systems?”
