pon our arrival, we were amazed at
         the transformation of Gerber Hall
into a festive ball room gaily wrapped
in colorful wrapping paper that covered the
middle of both side walls and a beautifully
lighted Christmas Lantern (Parol) hung from
the ceiling in the front of the room, directly
center stage. There was a large beautifully
decorated Christmas tree adorning the cen-
ter of the stage. It is always amazing to see
how Gerber Hall takes on a personality of its
own depending upon the event being hosted
there. This night was definitely going to be
an extraordinarily entertaining evening. The
kitchen was abuzz with the activity of the
Heavenly Food Creations, owned by Rhue-
na Buentipo. The serving table in front of
the stage was festively covered with a black
tablecloth over laid with a silver tablecloth
accent and Christmas decorations.

Lilia Rivera, former president of the Fili-
pino Community of Sacramento and Vicin-
ity (FCSV) and a member of The American
Legion Auxiliary Unit 604, was Mistress of
Ceremonies for the evening’s entertainment.
She opened the program and welcomed ev-
eryone. After welcoming the guests, MC
Lilia introduced Trining Cabalfin, who gave
the invocation. Afterwards, the guests were
served a delicious dinner from Heavenly
Food Creations. During dinner, the guests
were entertained by Paul and Ed Cordero,
DJs for the evening’s festivities.
After dinner, Mrs. New Year 2011 Marilou
Amper, escorted by her husband, was intro-
duced and took her farewell walk. Then the
2011 1st Princess Avelina Unganiza and 2nd
Princess Isabel Zoma, with their escorts,
were introduced.
Afterwards, MC Lilia introduced the can-
didates for Mrs. New Year 2012. As each
candidate was introduced, they took a stroll
around the hall with their escorts. The can-
didates were Freenie Williams, Ofelia Ow-
ens, and Rose Martinez. This year, each of
the candidates was afforded a money dance
to raise votes for themselves. Mrs. Freenie
Williams won Mrs. New Year 2012. First
Princess was Ms. Ofelia Owens and the Sec-
ond Princess was Rose Martinez. During
the coronation ceremony, each candidate re-
ceived a bouquet, crown, and sash. This was
the first year that a custom sash was made
for each of the recipients.
After the coronation ceremony, the enter-
tainment continued with dancing throughout
the evening. At the stroke of midnight the
guests lifted their glass of champagne and/
or sparkling cider in a toast to the New Year.
Then breakfast was served for the guests
present, courtesy of Joe Rivera and his
Breakfast Team.
Congratulations to Mrs. New Year 2012
Freenie Williams and her Royal Court. This
was a truly memorable evening for one and
all. Also, we would like to acknowledge and
thank The American Legion Post 604 and
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 604;
their officers and members; and the Overall
New Year’s Co-Chairs Aida Azurin and Lin-

mittees for their hard work and dedication in
making this event so successful.
