USTA CODE OF CONDUCT

All play is governed by the USTA Rules of Tennis, “The Code” and the USTA League Regulations. The
USTA Point Penalty System will be in effect. USTA certified umpires will be roving the courts.

 Two sets using regular scoring. Match tiebreak at (first to 10 by 2) in lieu of third set.
 The Coman tiebreak procedure will be used for all tiebreaks during the championship. Change ends
after the first point and then every 4 points thereafter.
 Five-minute warm-up, including serves and 15-minute default period shall be observed throughout the
  event.
 You are allowed 20 seconds between points and 90 seconds at the changeover. However, after the
first game of each set and during a tie-break, play shall be continuous and the players shall change
ends without a rest period. At the conclusion of each set (regardless of score), there shall be a set
break of 120 seconds. The referee may designate alternative scoring and/or change of surface in case
  of rain or other delay.

                                                    4
 All players will abide by the USTA Rules and “The Code.” The server will call the score after each
point, clearly and loudly enough for the opponent(s) to hear.
 No coaching permitted at any time.

MATCH CARDS
Match cards will be due thirty prior to scheduled match time. The first lineup (all 8:30 am matches), must
be brought to the Captain’s meeting on Thursday evening. Teams are encouraged to field their players in
order of strength.

MATCH TIMES
Match times are estimates based on court availability. Matches may be officially called (and will be if
courts are available) up to 30 minutes early. Lateness penalties will be applied accordingly.

CHECK-IN TIME
All players MUST report 30 minutes before scheduled to play. The captain only should inform the
tournament desk that all players are present.

KNOWN DEFAULTS
A minimum of 4 team members (3.03A(4)) and three for 5.0 NTRP level (3.06C(1)) who were on the
final roster of their local league must be available and are eligible to compete must be present. In the
event a position(s) is (are) to be defaulted, the opposing captain(s) will be notified and may adjust his/her
line-up.

REPORTING SCORES
When a match is completed, BOTH SINGLES players or ONE REPRESENTATIVE from EACH
DOUBLES team must report back to the tournament desk to fill out the scorecard. Winner must return
used balls. Scores will not count until all appropriate players have signed the scorecard and balls are
returned. Matches played by disqualified players will become losses for the disqualified player and wins
for the opponent.

LEVEL OF PLAY DISQUALIFICATIONS
USTA rules regarding disqualification of over-level players will be in effect. Players with rating types of
S, A, M, T and D are subject to disqualification. Players with C or B type ratings are not. Players who
have generated three ratings that are clearly above level will be disqualified. These ratings are cumulative
beginning with the local league. If a player is disqualified, all matches played by the player will be
reversed and will become wins for the opponent(s). Self-rate grievances may be filed but will not be
heard until the championships are over. The results will stand if a player is disqualified after the event is
over.

TOURNAMENT BULLETIN BOARDS

Hyatt Regency Mercer County Park Veterans' Park

A bulletin board will be set at these locations. Please check these boards for important information,
current standings, match results, personal messages, etc.

                                                      5
IN THE EVENT OF RAIN

Rain invariably causes delays. Matches are not shifted from outdoor to indoor sites until the referee
concludes that outdoor play cannot be resumed within a reasonable period of time. Just packing up gear
and moving to another site starts a loss of time. There will always be a loss of available courts, as it is
impossible to have an equal number of indoor courts. Therefore, you should be prepared for the
following:
 Matches being delayed
 Having to wait on-site for further instructions
 Matches being postponed until the following day
 Possible shift into flights instead of full round robin
 Possible shift to no-ad scoring or pro sets
 Possible shift to a different court surface
 Divisions and teams being split between different sites
 Players should commit themselves to the championship for the entire weekend,
including being ready for evening play
 PLAYERS MAY BE ASSESSED A FEE FOR INDOOR PLAY

HOT WEATHER

All athletes should drink water before, during and after events. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink,
you have waited too long.

Drink 2 or three cups of fluid PRIOR to play. Drinking up to 20 ounces of water or sport drink 30
minutes before a match can help in avoiding heat disorders.

Take water with you on the court and drink frequently (i.e. at every changeover.)

After your match, drink large quantities of fluids. Fresh fruit and fruit juices are an excellent source of
electrolytes, with bananas and melons a particularly good source of potassium.

                                                      6
                                 MATCH and SITE ASSIGNMENTS

Please remember -- all court times are estimates based on court availability.

Matches may be officially called up to 30 minutes early and lateness penalties will be applied
accordingly.

                             NATIONAL TENNIS RATING PROGRAM
                                        Fact Sheet

1. Players in the USTA League Tennis Program must rate themselves in accordance with the NTRP.
When players are self-rating themselves, if they question at which level they should play, they should
place themselves in the higher level of play.

2. The NTRP is based on a player’s on-court performance in both NTRP tournaments and league play.

3. The NTRP Computer Rating System determines NTRP ratings for players throughout the country who
participate in the Adult and Senior League Divisions. It is a mathematical system that assigns computer
ratings to players by direct or indirect comparison to benchmark players.
