             Senior Director, Transportation & Parking

Subject: 2011 California State Employees Food Drive

The holiday season is just around the corner. Sacramento State has been asked to
participate again this year in the California State Employees Food Drive - -
November 14th - December 20th. Sacramento State has been a participant in
this state-wide effort for more than 37 years. Your generosity helps food closets
in the Sacramento area stretch their resources all year and warm the tables of
thousands of children and families in our community.

The holidays are such a special time of the year, when family and friends
share warm and happy times. However, the continued high unemployment and
slow economy has contributed to record levels of food insecure households,
making the Food Drive more important than ever. Many families in our area are
struggling to make ends meet and we want this Food Drive to bring much
needed relief and assistance. Please reach as deeply as you can to help make
the holidays and the new year a little better for the many children and
families helped by your donation.

Cash donations are very important. Your cash donations help make it possible to
purchase bulk resources throughout the year, such as powdered milk, peanut
butter, dry beans, rice and ramen noodles – items that are costly for individual
agencies to buy in smaller quantities. The combined purchasing power of more than
100 State agencies, departments and offices participating in the Sacramento
region means that every dollar you contribute purchases an average of two-and-a-
half pounds of food. Your cash donations go further and feed more people. Best of
all, every dollar donated is used for the purchase intended. There are no
administrative fees deducted, all money raised is used to buy food.

• Make your check payable to “California Emergency Foodlink”
• Mail it to Nancy Fox at campus zip 6076 or drop off at the UTAPS office at
7667 Folsom Blvd (a receipt will be provided)
• Your monetary donations are tax deductible
For the first time, Sacramento State will be participating in a “turkey drop” on
November 16th, 7:30-10am. On your way to work or class, drop off your frozen
turkey - - at an Information Booth at each campus entrance or the University
Transportation & Parking Services Office at 7667 Folsom Blvd. All turkeys will be
delivered directly to Food Link that morning. Turkeys are in high demand during the
holidays. Without them, many families will not have meat in their holiday food box.

• Canned or dry baby food, powdered milk, peanut butter, tuna, pork & beans,
canned meats, beans, peas, and macaroni & cheese are the most needed foods.
• Please, no out-dated, expired, home-made or open packaged food of any kind.

Food may be dropped off at an Information Booth at each campus entrance. Don’t
carry heavy bags to your building, drive to an Information Booth and drop them off
without leaving your car! Food collection boxes are located in many campus buildings
and offices. Look for the brightly wrapped boxes in holiday paper. A list of food
collection locations is posted at, News & Events section. If you
wish to add your office to the collection box location list, please let us know.

Deliver larger food donations directly to the UTAPS Office, Monday-Friday, 7:30
a.m. - 5:00 p.m. by December 20th. For the donation of large quantities of fresh
fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, or bulk foods (all year!), please call Nancy Fox
at 278-5241 to schedule a pickup.

Scheduled food collection days are November 18th & 23rd, December 2nd, 9th,
16th & 20th. If additional food collections are needed, call Nancy Fox at extension
85241. You may bring any of your collected food directly to the University
Transportation and Parking Services (UTAPS) office at 7667 Folsom Blvd or drive to
an Information Booth located at each campus entrance.

Campus departments are encouraged to find creative ways to help make the Holiday
Food Drive successful - - plan events for attendees to bring canned goods for
admission; host department social gatherings for employees and students to bring
donations; student organizations host events & competitions for attendees to bring

If you have questions regarding the California State Employees Food Drive,
please feel free to call Nancy Fox at 278-5241. Thank you for your
participation in this important annual event! Help make this the most wonderful
time of the year for families in need.

Give in 2011!
