Major Hazards and Risks:
Temperature
Driving
Fork Lift Operations
Hazmat
Fatigue
It will be another day with 100 degree plus temperatures! Remember 4 waters to every 1
Gatorade. Thirst is not a good indicator that your body needs water in this heat, drink at least
a cup of water every 15 to 20 minutes if you spend most of your time on the tarmac.
Watch out for those who have forgotten the traffic plan and remind them of it when you see
them going the wrong way! Use the three second rule when following and slow down in areas
where people often walk.
Forklifts are not meant to be run wide open! Signal your intentions when crossing forklift areas.
Forklift inspections should be filled out daily and turned into Logistics.
Report fuel spills immediately! Absorbent, brooms, shovels and containers are available for
containing small spills. Post “No Smoking” signs in the area of spills.
Fatigue breaks down mental and physical coordination over time. Additional breaks may be
required to reduce excessive fatigue from extended assignments.
Forklift Accident Prevention Notes:
Working with a forklift requires constant
attention tooth hazards in front, above and And remember, STUPID HURTS…
around the area of operation. Despite one's best
intentions there is always a possibility for
accidents to occur. Forklift operators should take
precautions to minimize accident potential. They
should verify that the charge on the forklift is
adequate to the task (at least 1/2 full for normal
loads and 3/4 full for heavy loads), they should
survey the travel route before making a lift to
familiarize themselves with any potential
obstacles, they should warn people in the area
that forklift operations are underway, they
should arrange for a spotter if there is any
potential obstacle which could have serious
consequences if hit by the forklift, or blind spots
along the way. If their vision is impaired due to
the size of the load, a spotter is essential for
safe completion of the lift or the forklift must be “Hey ya’ll, Watch This…”
driven backwards to ensure a clear line of sight.
Most of all the driver must be on the look-out for
any behavior that could jeopardize the operation
such as exceeding the load center, forklift
maximum weight etc.
