It was the 11th mission on El Camino Real and is half way between San Diego to San Francisco. The Spanish Padres were the ones that brought the California Missions to the Native Americans. They traveled a whole day and walked up to 30 miles. The missions are about a full day’s walk apart. The Camino Real is the road that connected all of the presidios, missions, and pueblos, even today. Area in which the mission was built The mission is located in the town of Lompock in California. The Chumash Indian tribe, a peaceful people, lived in the area along the coast. The mission was close to the ocean so they could fish. Life on the mission The Indians worked and did not rest until their job was done. The chores were finding food, building the mission, cooking the food, and cleaning the mission and the grounds. The Chumash Indians did all the chores but the Padres help them with the chores sometimes. The jobs were hard because there was so much to do. The Mission Today The Mission La Purísima Concepción is now used as a historical state monument. It is also a California state park. People can visit and see how the Indians lived when the mission was first run by taking a tour now. The mission is now rebuilt so it looks just like it did in the 1800s. The famous earthquake of 1812 did much damage brought to the mission then anouther one hit the mission that had parts crumble then there was a rainstorm made the clay on the wall came of the part if the remaining peices of the misson.
