Dr Shakil Afridi Jailed for 33 years
PESHAWAR: A local court of Peshawar has handed down 33 years imprisonment and has
imposed fine of RS. 3,200,00 to Shakil Afridi the former Khyber Agency surgeon, who had run
fake polio vaccination campaign on behalf of CIA to find Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
Dr Shakil Afridi was taken into custody by the military’s Inter-Services Intelligence Agency
(ISI) two weeks after Osama Bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011 in a raid by US Navy Seals
on his hideout in the garrison town of Abbottabad in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber
A spokesperson of the department said that Pakistan and the United States shared a common
cause against terrorism and al Qaeda. The spokesperson said that the secretary had already stated
that “it is a real mistake on Pakistan’s part”. After the verdict was announced, Dr Afridi was
shifted to Peshawar Central Jail.
