“EMPATHY BELLY PROJECT” Pregnancy Simulator Name : ________________________________ Partner’s Name: _________________________ Hour: ___________ Red or White ___________ DATE PROJECT REPORT IS DUE : _______________________ ( Due next class ) LAB ACTIVITIES: 1. The partner will take their pulse rate before putting on the bally:___________beat per minute. The teacher will place the lung restrictor on tight, place the metal balls up high in the belly, velcro the bladder pouch in place. Put the belly on and put the smock over it. CAUTION: IF AT ANY TIME YOU FEEL FAINT OR DIZZY PLEASE HAVE THE TEACHER REMOVE THE EMPATHY BELLY! YOU MUST HAVE A PARTNER WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!! The partner will fill the next section out for you!!!! 2. Have them look at themselves in the full length mirror. What comments did they make about their protruding profile. 3. Walk them up to the 3rd floor and return. Your partner is to write down all your comments and any changes in your posture. 4. Have them bend down (bend at their knees and not at their waist) and have them take off their shoes and tie them. How did they react and were they able to do it? 5. Have them pick up 3 articles from the floor. What trouble did they have with it? Any comments? 6. Have them get a drink from the fountain. Did they change the way you they did it? Any comments? 7. Now, take his/her pulse. ____________ beats per minute. What is the difference? 8. Walk between the tables in the classroom and sit at your table. Is it difficult and how close can you get to the table? ASSIGNMENT: The student wearing the empathy belly will fill out the rest of the assignment. 1. Describe what happened when you put the belly on. What surprised you the most? 2. How did you feel about yourself when you had it on? 3.
