Two executives gave their views on telecommuting. Lawrence W. Baiamonte, CPM Emeritus, senior investment professional, Nationwide Insurance, said that in the Real Estate Investment department at Nationwide Insurance, where he worked until his recent retirement, everyone was issued a laptop, rather than a desktop computer, so they all had the ability to telecommute. It gave them the ability to work from home during the business day, as well as at night or on weekends, as necessary, without staying late at the office or going in on the weekend. Enis L. Hartz, CPM, VP, management services, Transwestern, also said that the interaction with their consumer, whether it is their home or their place of business, mandates a level of trust in them. Trust is difficult, if not impossible, to build without old fashioned, one-on-one, personal interaction.
