A Word from the President
Debbie Podolski
Congratulations to all the Farmingdale businesses that were
vote Best of Long Island 2012! As you know, your Chamber was
voted Best of LI for the second year in a row. Thank you to all
our members for voting for us. We will be participating at the
Long Island Press Best of event on Monday, February 6.
Your Chamber has been very active in planning special events
to promote your business. The board of directors are dedicated,
hard working, and a pleasure to work with. In the spirit of full
disclosure, I am reporting to the membership that this past year,
the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce was met with an unfor-
tunate incident in that a trusted officer, a person active in the
community, failed to perform the duties as assigned including
making deposits. I am happy to report that action was taken
immediately to remedy the situation. The funds have been re-
stored and the person is no longer associated or involved with
the Farmingdale Chamber. In no way did this situation prevent
the Farmingdale Chamber from fulfilling its obligation to its
members or prevent it from achieving the goals for the year. In
addition, the board of directors reviewed the by-laws and
made modification to procedures to prevent this from happen-
ing in the future. Special thanks to Mike Ingham (Carman, Calla-
han & Ingham) for his expertise and advice.

you on the map of Farmingdale. The map will be distributed
    throughout Farmingdale.

ORGANIZING YOUR FINANCIAL LIFE
Do you know where all your critical documents are located?
If a death in the family were to occur, would you know
where to locate the will, bank documents, insurance policies
and investment documents? Would you even know whom to
contact to get the documents you need?

Are You in Document Disarray?
Whether you are changing jobs, buying a home, caring for
an aging loved one, experiencing a death in the family, or planning your
retirement, major life events can send you into a document search tailspin.
Just think about how many documents the bank requests when you apply
for a home mortgage or the litany of current and historical documents
that are needed to settle an estate. Because we don’t always tend to
keep track of everything we have or might need to prepare for such
events, unexpected circumstances send most of us scurrying to collect what
is required.

Get Help to Get Organized…
If the idea of getting your financial life in order sounds completely over-
whelming, don’t worry. You are not alone. There are organizing systems
that can help you, such as New York Life’s LifeFolio System, which you can
get for free from any New York Life agent. It comes with an easy-to-
complete checklist that can help you and your family organize all your
critical financial documents and share that information with those close to
you, as well as your investment professional, attorney, accountant, and
your executor/executrix.

…And Feel Better
Getting organized not only helps you identify what you have — it will
help your financial professional to identify what you need and help you
bridge any gaps in your financial strategy. As such, organizing your fi-
nancial life may be one of the easiest, but most important gifts you can
give yourself and your family. So, contact a New York Life Agent today
and get on the road to financial organization.

Member Referral Program
The Member Referral Program is a great opportunity to help the Farmingdale
Chamber and Your Business grow! A growing membership strengthens the
Chamber’s impact as it advocates on issues of importance to our members.

Here’s how it works: Identify businesses who you feel would benefit from
Chamber membership. Think of those you do business with on a regular basis.
Find out if they belong to the Chamber. (A complete listing of Chamber mem-
bers is available at www.farmingdalenychamber.org.)
Fill out a referral form (available on the Chamber website
www.farmingdalenychamber.org/local/news/MemberReferralProgram.pdf
or call 516-286-7800 for a form.
We will contact the referred business and mention your name & company as
the referring business. Upon receipt of payment, you will receive a voucher
entitling you to a free breakfast or lunch at one of our Chamber meetings.

Terms and Conditions:
Current Chamber members can participate in this program.
A referral form must be submitted to the Chamber indicating you as the person
referring the new business. A referral for this program is a business or repeat
member (who hasn't been a member for more than a year) that joins the
Chamber as a direct result of a current member's efforts.
Should a referral form be submitted more than once, the Chamber will honor
the first referring party only. One full year of membership dues must be paid
by the New Member.

Returned completed referral form to the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce,
