            1. Investigate mixing different solids with water. Classify the solids according to
                what happens. Soluble, insoluble, irreversible etc
            2. Freeze different liquids to make lollies
            3. Plan an investigation to answer the question - Which solid melts most quickly?
                – using chocolate, wax, butter etc
            4. Mix ice and hot water to get water at a given temperature
            5. Investigate rates of evaporation e.g. drying cloths, paint.
            6. Investigate which food burn most easily?

                            Mind map (15mins) (Display in class)
                            Investigation – Give problem in children, in groups,
                             (1 hour)        to solve. [Aliens have polluted the
                                             water supply in London. Each borough
                                             has something different in the water.]
                                             Give the children the mixtures and let
                                             them plan, choose experiment,
                                             equipment and then solve by doing.
                                             Record results/ outcomes. Label by
                                             using key words – filter, sieve etc
                            Look at old SATs questions that relate to the activity.

                            Look at completed experiments – children record results.
                             Group/class discussion to clarify and consolidate. (25mins)
