Media Spokesperson Policy for a Nonprofit Organization
Suitable for Board Members and Staff/Volunteers
The [Name of Nonprofit] has a designated media spokesperson, who may change from
time to time and issue to issue. Only those who are specifically authorized to do so may
speak to the news media about [Name of Nonprofit’s] business as well as its programs
and activities, donors, employees, volunteers and clients.
If someone from the media approaches you and asks you for a comment you should tell
them that you are not authorized to speak for [Name of Nonprofit] and instead you
should direct them to the President/Executive Director, or [title], who will respond or
put them in touch with the designated spokesperson for that issue.
