   Way of Life”
     Last time we were talking about National cooking in Ukraine and Britain and today we shall
be continuing this interesting problem.
     They say, “Health is the main wealth” We can’t but agree more. Let us consider some
factors of a healthy way of life.
      When do you go to bed and when do you get up? Do you remember the proverb “Early to

makes a man healthy?
    - Going in for sports;
    - Walking a lot;
    - Having regular meals;
    - Drinking much good water;
What makes a Man illness? What are bad habits:
    - Don’t smoking!
    - Don’t drink much alcohol!
And what is the main danger for Man?
    - Don’t take drugs!
To my mind, it is the most danger of 21st century!

а) Пред’явлення тексту для аудіювання.
T: Now you will listen to the text:
   “Secrets of a long and healthy life ”. While listening, write down the three things Mr.
Weilbold has always done and three he has never done.
                                Text “Secrets of a Long Healthy Life”
Yesterday afternoon in a village near Bristol, a tall old man with a good suntan celebrated his
birthday with some friends. After a party he played tennis and then went for a five , mile walk
with some of his guests. There was nothing unusual in this.
 The man, whose name was Mr. Misha Weibold has been celebrating his birthday in this way for
a long time. the only unusual thing is that Mr. Weibold was 85 years old yesterday.
“I don’t walk as fast as I used to and my eyes aren’t quite as good as before but otherwise I feel
as fit as I was when I was 30”.
When asked what his secret was for such a long and healthy life, he answered, “There are three
things which I’ve always done and three things I’ve never done. First of all I’ve always walked at
least 5 mile every day. Secondly I’ve always eaten very simply. Thirdly, I’ve always been in the
habit of getting up early.
There’re the three things which I’ve never done: I’ve never smoked a cigarette in all my life! I’ve
never worried about anything. And I’ve never been married I’ve believed that marriage was a
very unhealthy thing and now I am sure of it. When I was 60, I used to have a lot of friends who
were married. And do you know where they are now? They are all dead”.
So Mr. Weilbold has always:
     a) Walked at least 5 miles;
     b) Eaten very simply;
     c) Got up early;
He has never:
     a) Smoked a cigarette.
     b) Worried about anything.
     c) been married.
T: I wouldn’t agree that marriage is unhealthy and I think it is impossible not to worry.

Customer: I want some tea, some sugar and some butter;
Shop-assistant: Yes, madam.
Customer: Oh, I want a little cheese too.
Shop-assistant: What cheese and how much?
Customer: That one, a quarter of a pound.
Shop-assistant: Don’t you want any coffee?
Costumer: That’s all for today.
Shop-assistant: Very good, madam. Here is your bill. Pay at the cashdesk, please.

Nick: Oh, Mummy, I’m awfully hungry. What do we have for dinner today?
Mother; Today we have beetroot soup and roast beef with boiled potatoes for the first course.
Lena; That’s fine. I like beetroot soup very much.
Nick; And I don’t like boiled potatoes, but I’ll eat up everything, Mother will give me as I am as
hungry as a hunter.
Father: There is a good boy! Lena pass me the brown bread.
Lena: Here you are. And what shall we have for dessert, Mother?
Mother: Wait a minute, Lena. Eat up your meat first.
Father: Who is the best eater in your family? Nick is. Look! There is already nothing on his
        plate.
        Appetite comes with eating. You must give him the biggest piece of pie, dear.

Reading the texts:
                               “How the Sandwich came to the World”
In 1762 there was a very famous English politician. Everybody knew about him because he
enjoyed playing cards very much. One night he stayed at the card table for 24 hours, and he ate
nothing but slices of bread with pieces of meat inside. His name was John Sandwich. The
English name for a sandwich comes from this man.
Sandwiches were great favourite in Victorian England. It was the custom to “take” after moon
tea at about four o’clock, and many rich families ate sandwiches at this time.
Cucumber sandwiches were very popular. The servants always cut the edges of the bread, so
the sandwiches were very small and delicate.
Sandwiches are less elegant now and often much bigger.
The English eat millions of sandwiches every day. They are a typical “snack” meal because they
are easy and quick to prepare. You can buy sandwiches if you don’t want to make them
yourself. There are thousands of “sandwich bars” and cafes and even some restaurants sell
them.
                                “Do you know the story of Coca-Cola?”
The Coca-Cola story began in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1886.
John S. Pembertn invented a new drink that contained the South American coca leaf and the
African cola nut. But the inventor couldn’t think of a good name for the new drink. His partner
proposed the name of Coca-Cola and wrote the new name in a special way- and that became
the famous trademark.
A trademark is a special name, sing or word which is marked on a product to show it is made by
a particular producer, and which legally only be used by that producer.
Thirty years later the famous Coca-Cola special bottle first appeared.
For many years, the company made only Coca-Cola. Then they introduced new drinks - Fanta,
Sprite and TAB- in the 1960, and Diet Coke in 1982.
The recipe of Coca-Cola is a secret. The taste of the drink is the same in any place of the world.
For example in Kyiv, Dniepropetrovsk, Lviv and many other Ukrainian and foreign cities these
drinks are produced too. Though Coca-Cola and other drinks are producer all around the world
the receipt is known only to few people in America. They supply special concentrate to their
partners. That is why the taste of Coca-Cola is the same everywhere.
In 1985 the company changed the recipe! But the public was very unhappy. And soon the
company brought back the original recipe: “Coca-Cola Classic”
Today they sell Coca-Cola in 195 countries. Hundreds of millions of people drink it every day. It
has the most famous trademark in the world.
                                  “Who doesn’t know “Hot Dogs!”
This food of a sausage in a long bread roll is popular in many countries.
Long thin sausages come from Frankfurt in Germany. They are called ‘frankfurters’. Put one in
bread, and it becomes a ‘hot dog’. Why ‘hot dog’?
Many years ago a caricaturist draw a picture in a newspaper. In the picture he compared the
sausage in a long roll with a long thin German dog, a ‘dachshund’.
Laughing he called the food ‘hot dog’ and didn’t think that the name would become popular.
                    “The Hamburger is not so young as We sometimes think.”
  An American cook, Louis Lassen, made and sold the first hamburger in 1895. He gave them this
name because sailors from German port hamburger gave him the recipe.
The story of this popular food comes back to the Middle Ages. In the Hamburg area the Tartars
first made a sort of hamburger then. They used to sit on pieces of meat when they rode horses;
so the meat came out flat!
Kenneth Lassen, louis’son, still sells hamburger in Connecticut.
Today you can buy this food in many places of the word. Except ‘classic hamburger’ there are
also cheeseburgers, fishburgers, beefburgers, eggburgers… in fact anythingburgers!
