                     Critical Incident Stress Resolution Course

How to Help Others in these Times of Crisis

This could be the Most Important Seminar You Ever Attended!

Let's face it. The current conditions have gone far beyond what even the best trained
professionals are capable of handling. Normal stress reduction methods do not work when every
day we are bombarded with fresh news of TERROR in our daily lives. It would be naive to think
that the training you received regarding a "normal" world will work in the new ongoing terrorist
situation.

During WWII there was some safety on the home front, but not this time. Constant news of
terrorist threats of more bombings and announcements that our own mail has become a weapon
compound the feelings of fear. Apprehension now permeates most people's subconscious. All
ages are experiencing a subtle nervousness in their daily lives, whether it's driving to a store and
noticing when planes fly overhead or simply waking up repeatedly in the middle of the night for
no apparent reason. Where do we turn for relief? We need to be trained and ready to deal with
the new model. Are you?

Do you know what to do and when to do it? Are you comfortable dealing with the new types of
problems we will be seeing?

Why Should You Sign up Now?
                                   Are You Ready?
America has been attacked. We have lost our sense of security. We feel lost.
The pain we feel as we recall the images of the planes crashing into the buildings time
after time. Many people report the sight of the second plane ripping into the World Trade
Center is forever etched into their brain. The gut wrenching images of people jumping
out of the windows of those high rise buildings. Then the stories of those searching for
the people they lost in these horrible events, brings all the pain back to the surface.

Just when we are told to return to "normal", there is another case of Anthrax, or another
announcement of a credible threat and to be on alert. "Return to normal", and yet be
"Alert to Threat of Death and Destruction that can come from any place at any time." We
are also told to stay on Constant High Alert. Staying in a highly aroused, emotional state
will break you down both physically and mentally.
In times like these we want to help those in pain. This is a task not just for mental health
workers, but Police, Fire Fighters, business owners, hospital workers, teachers,
hypnotists, and NLPers. In fact, this is a task for any concerned person who deals with
the public and wants to help. We want to help you help those who hurt. It must be
remembered many people will delay seeking traditional help. We must be prepared to
help in nontraditional ways.
                                     Are you Ready?
These types of events resist easy answers. Are you familiar with the process of
Trauma? Do you know how to spot true trauma?
There are stages to this trauma process.

Stages of Trauma
1. Impact stage
2. Recoil Stage
3. Adaptation Stage

The most common complaints at the beginning is the feeling of being stunned and
bewildered, then a sense that things are not real. We hope to wake up from this
nightmare, only to remember, in vivid detail, that it is all too real. If you are in the first
stages or know someone who is, help may be needed to keep this from escalating into
long term problems.

How you First handle someone who presents with these problems can be the difference
between helping them to return to normalcy, or increasing and prolonging their pain.

Do you know what to look for in people who under high stress? Can you list the
signs of maladaptive behavior?

What to look for:

Short Term Effects (First stages)
1. Tension
2. Disturbed sleep
3. Intrusive thoughts about the incident
4. Irritability
5. Depression
6. Psychosomatic/ Physical complaints
7. Poor concentration
8. Nightmares
9. Poor performance in easy tasks
10. Memory loss
11. Paranoia
12. Feelings of hopelessness

Did you realize that if left untreated these turn into long term problems such as:
Signs (Long term)
1. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
2. Chronic depression
3. Chronic inability to concentrate
4. Emotional liability
5. Alcohol and drug abuse
6. Increased aggression

                                  What can we do?
Sign up NOW to learn the information from the people who have the experience and
training in dealing with these types of incidents. Plus the cutting edge of NLP and
Rapid change work as you have not seen it before.

                           Critical Incident Stress Debriefing

For years the Military, Fire Departments, EMT and the Police have long grasped that
when dealing with severe traumatic conditions that result in mass deaths, they have
emotional, cognitive, and psychological impacts that resist the usual stress reduction
methods. If left untreated it can disrupt a person life permanently. We can also look to
areas that have dealt with on going Terrorist Activity, and huge natural disasters.

The Encyclopedia of Psychology defines psychic trauma as "any painful experience,
especially if that experience is associated with permanent environmental changes."
Figley (1988) says a traumatic event is "an extraordinary event or series of events which
is sudden and overwhelming and often dangerous, either to oneself or significant others".

There are ways to help people that have to deal with this type of overwhelming stress.
