Ms Kalimi Mugambi Mworia




           Ms Kalimi Mugambi Mworia, Director, International Cooperation and Assistance Division at the
           Technical Secretariat of the OPCW.


Ms Kalimi Mugambi Mworia was appointed the Director of the International Cooperation and Assistance
Division of the OPCW Technical Secretariat on 1 March 2007. Prior to her present position, Ms Mworia
was Kenya’s Ambassador to The Netherlands and Czech Republic, as well as the Permanent
Representative of Kenya to the OPCW.


She has served in top-level positions in several leading national and international institutions and non-
governmental organizations, including as the Acting Director of the African Medical and Research
Foundation’s (AMREF) Directorate of International Training and Development (2003-2004), the Director of
the special reproductive health programme for Africa and Asia of the International Planned Parenthood
Federation Office (IPPF) in London from 1993 to 1994, and subsequently as the Associate Regional
Director of the IPPF Africa Regional Office between 1995 to 1999.


In early 1992 to September 1993, Ms Mworia was the Director of Family Planning Private Sector (USAID
co-operating agency).


Ms Mworia’s active involvement in social issues in Kenya, especially in the field of family planning, led to
her appointment as the Programme Manager, later Executive Director, of the Family Planning Association
of Kenya from 1984 to 1992. During this period, she spearheaded the development of family planning and
reproductive health programmes in her country, as well as gender and women’s reproductive rights
programmes. In addition, Ms Mworia has had a long career in lecturing and providing training and
management courses at universities and leading higher education institutions in Kenya and abroad.


Ms Mworia has a Bachelor of Education (Science) from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, and
received her Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology, from Columbia University in New York, USA.
