Grime _amp; Funky House

Grime is a sub-genre of UK hip-hop originating in East London around the late
1990’s.
One out of 2 Genres that I will be using.. Heavily influenced by UK Garage.
elements of drum and bass, punk and dancehall can be recognized in it.
Average tempo for such songs lay in the 140 BPM range. Often the lyrical
approach aims to match this rate, resulting in fast paced, percussive delivery.
Grime finds more MC’s putting lyrics down over the music “Spitting” rather
than soulfully crooning over tracks... Moving towards 2009 these so called
Mc’s are evolving into Artists with new ideas and styles.. The genre is moving
from mix tape on top of mix tape to albums..
As stated above, Grime emerged as an offshoot of Garage, and seemingly in
complete contrast to its American hip-hop counterpart. Where most
mainstream hip-hop artists in the U.S. celebrate their money, women and
extravagant lifestyle, Grime artist tend to offer a gritty real-world account of
living in impoverished, rough council estates.
The History of Funky house is a grey area as it is still fighting to be recognized
as an actual genre but recent outbursts of “funky” is getting it more and more
radio play and recognition.
Firstly “There is only house. House has been around since the early ‘80s, it’s
established and it will always be around. People may try to sub-categorize it,
but it’s still just house - the same vibes if it’s soulful or funky… I should know -
I’ve been on the scene from the late ‘80's! I have worked in the studio with
Eddie Perez (Smack Production), Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo”(Booker T)
One of the genres that I will be basing my magazine on is (Funky House) the
term is used very loosely the mainstream looks at our version of house as
Ghetto/ Urban House… but it also includes soulful house elements
“That is a misnomer - a media creation. You may as well call it Black House -
it’s just house music. You don't hear people call rock music 'white rock' do
you? There no such thing as either ghetto / urban house.” (Booker T).. The
same goes for a few other genres of music that are mainly dominated with
black people.. They are just given the label “Urban or ghetto..”
The average tempo for funky house music lays in the 125 Bpm range
“House has been a big worldwide scene for the last 20 years. In some parts of
the world, a whole new generation is feeling the house vibe now, which is
good for the music.” (DJ Leo).My generation in the UK right now is definitely
feeling that vibe, Particularly east London and Its spreading… FUNKYFEVER!

Grime being an underground genre doesn't
really have any sub genres. The closest to
a sub genre in grime are fusion genres
such as Rythim & grime, Grindie and more
Funky house being an underground
genre doesn't really have any sub
genres as it is considered to be a
subgenre in itself.
At the moment both grime and funky house are still
underground genres.
Some SONGS have been signed to labels but generally
there isn't enough funky in the mainstream for there to
be any notable record labels for songs of that genre. As
for Grime its generally the same situation with a little less
interest because of the nature of the music.
The only popular magazine that covers these
underground genres with a focus on them is RWD
mag. Any other magazines that cover these genres
are not very popular.
Due to the fact that these are underground genres…
These forms of music generally don’t make too many
appearances on popular shows such as MTV.. They appear
more on channel U. Recently they have been becoming
increasingly popular in the more popular programs with
grime and funky house videos showing on MTV base more
and more often
