Place Value Game
Objective: Use place value through millions in real-world situations, including reading,
writing, estimating, and comparing numbers in a variety of forms.
Materials: activity sheets (Digit Delight; President’s Terms); game pieces; expanded
form index cards
Introduction: Tell student that she or he will be reviewing place value and
reading large numbers accurately. Let student read follow-up activities about size of
islands and presidents' terms.
Guided Practice: Student should complete challenge exercises on both sheets.
Tutor then should hold up index cards of numbers in expanded form and let the student
tell what number it is.
Independent Practice: Play "Digit Delight" with student.
Closure: Reflection -- encourage the student to write about what he or she learned from
this lesson, what he or she liked or disliked, and what he or she found easy and/or
